What was your reasoning behiend naming your first pirate?
So, basically, why did you pick the name you picked for your first pirate?
I found the name "Robin Jerbooty" on a website, and I quite liked it because I wanted my first pirate to have a refrence to Robinson Crusoe, because when I played a while back my first pirate was "Jac Crusoe" and my brother "Joe Cursoe" (we spelled Crusoe wrong that time, haha). I thought the "Jer" was too confusing so I changed it to "Yer" and submitted "Robin Yerbooty" which, unfortunetly, was rejected, so I went for the next best thing "Robin Yerloot". |

I barely remember it, but I think at the time, I was just looking for something catchy. "Kat Crestshot" has the whole "K" sound both times. I think I actually came up with Crestshot first, because, hey, a Cresting shot? Now that's pretty cool. Kat just sounded right with it. Trust me, I had a hard time finding another girl name that went well with Crestshot later when making Sarah, and even now, I'm still not overly fond of it. But hey, that's my story.

I just chose a name beginning with S that is uncommon where I live, and got Sven. Then I noticed the O' and wanted to include it. I don't know why I chose smythe though.
After many months, someone pointed out that the initials were SOS. So I ended up making a name that unintentionally contained a nice nickname ![]() Then the Sven name just kinda stuck, which led to Sven Daggershot (reference to old guild), Sven, and Shadow of Sven (a pirate made when I returned to a guild, and included the SOS). |

Mine was Solomon Sharkfury. Named him after... well, who doesn't know good ol' King Solomon? See, I'm actually very mature as far as gamers go, (Wiser too) and I tend to stand out in a crowd of Abassans. Plus, (Please don't think I'm bragging. I'm just stating facts.) I'm slightly charismatic, and Solomon just sounded dignified.

My first pirate William was named because first it sounded cool, and second - alot of video games that I tried, I am awesome at sword, so the sword kinda fit there... and then when I was creating my pirate, I saw a Medieval Times commercial, so hey - William Swordcastle right there! Imo, its pretty epic, not everyone has a castle made outta swords! My second guy was just a random name from the list, but my third guy was named after the main character in a book I like, so I named him that.

Well, I liked the name Maria.. I just thought it sounded so pretty and it flowed nicely. The last name took me awhile because I wanted to get it just right. So finally, somehow, I came up with Fireheart. I liked it because Fire made me think fierce, and dangerous, which was very fitting for a pirate. Then I though Heart was a nice contradiction. It makes you think of a gentle and more passionate side. Thus, Fireheart.

I chose Machazzard because I didn't know we could type our own name haha. I honestly didn't even care at the time, because I just wanted to start playing. I ended up really liking the name, so I kept it, and most of my other pirates' names relate to it.

Um, my very first ever pirate was the first incarnation of James Malory. I liked the name an ran with it. First pirate I KEPT, Kat O'hara, she is based off of Kathleen O'hara from the book Scarlett. I just really like Kathleen. Classic Irish lass with a love of home and hearth and family. So Kat it was.

I am a geek. But I am a tough geek. I am a former competitive athlete and I like my geekyness.
I had been really getting into the books by Karen Traviss a series called Republic Commando. They are Star Wars based. I felt deeply connected with the way The Mandalorians were like and the way she created this culture of men and women that fought for honor and pride of themselves even if it meant their deaths. They were fierce and savage but were also loyal and had a strong family bond. Their brothers, fathers, and mothers weren't necessarily blood related. Anyone could join the family as long as they proved that they were strong enough physically and mentally. All of those traits I value and those who know me a little bit better know this. Traviss changed my view on Jedi too. So in her honor. Darman Skirata and his brothers Ordo, Niner, Atin, Corr, and A'den were created. Therefore The Skirata Clan was created here too. Because I just couldn't pick one of them to represent all of them here. |

I was a toon-towner for years and had ( have ) a 115 toon named Queen Clover, which I selected from the auto name feature. It was after I had played for a while that I realized I could have typed a unique name in to be a bit more creative.
So when I decided to 'try' pirates in 2008 I recognized the similar nature of the two programs - either choose a standard name or create something unique. Well of course I knew I wanted something unique. Obviously I like cats ( just look at most of my pirate names) so I decided I wanted Kat. But also wanted something a little piratey. I looked around my room and my eyes fell on the Category Five cable ( AKA cat 5 ) near my computer. It just came to me.. Kat Five Knives is the marriage of my affinity for felines, computers, and pirates. Last edited by Kat Five Knives; 06-30-2010 at 03:07 PM.. Reason: Added a detail |

First Pirate Name
When we first started beta, I choose my name from the lists by random, then substituted my actual first name, which was one of the name choices. I ended up with XXXXXX Wildshot. Since it was beta, I figured the avatar would get wiped, or I would at least start over myself (since I almost always restart a game from beginning once I play through some and figure out the various game mechanics). So when I did start a new pirate I named him Captain Sureshot, since Sureshot is the opposite of Wildshot, and I found targeting in the game quite easy. I hadn't seen a Captain in-game up to that point. I used the same name when the game went live. Second Pirate Name About the time privateering went to the live server, I wanted to start a new main pirate since Sureshot's quests were still buggy, even after a fix. Plus, at the time, it seemed every third pirate was a Captain lol. I had always liked ships that had serpent names, and wanted a pirate name that would also have a serpent-type name. While researching serpent and dragon names and etymology, I came across Draco/Dracon, and chose Dracon. |

I have played many RPG's over the years, and other games where you name your charater. I have always strived to have a unique name.
When I came to pirates I made a pirate for my son. I used the random feature till my son said that sounds cool. His First pirate's name is James Daggersteel. I in turn kept Daggersteel as my Dname on my accounts. I then decided to make a pirate of my own. My first pirate's name is Rannulf Fritzwilliam. It was a slight change to a name of the lead charature in a book I was reading at the time about a Templar at the fall of Jereusalem. I changed the last name a bit so I did not copy it excatly. My second was named in a simular fashion. I took the last name of a book charature and gave him a new first name. I went Spanish for this guy. He is Named Baldomero De Montcada. Baldomero means brave and bold, since I saw this guy like a old school swordfighter. The rest of my pirate names I found on the internet searching for names of the pirate period 1600-1720. My third's name came from the names written in a ships log. He was a Scotsman. Forsy Balcorme. My fourth's insperation came from at worlds end. I wanted a chinese pirate. So I searched for historical chinese pirates. The name is a combo of real pirates. Cheng Po Zhi. I made a second account. Their names came to me the same as the others, but I wanted pirates from other parts of the world like the Pirate Lords. Nazzim Abu Qasim Sailed with Armand the Corsair. Rolivier L'Ollonais with Chevallis. I then remembered how many dutch pirates sailed the Caribbean and Piet Van Jander came to be. My last was a shifty lad Named Finnegan O'Finch, he hates the Navy he was press ganged into. I have a bio for all that ties them to the game my guild, and history. I may post that someday here when I have time. |

After the Movie (based on the Aubrey/Maturin series of books) came out, I thought of it as a cool name. Once I started reading the books it made it even cooler for me.
