I think it would be cool to allow ships to be damaged by sailing too close to shore / in shallow water. There would need to be some type of indicator. Unfortunately, it won't ever happen because:

That glitch was in-game because of remnants of the original code that allowed you to launch ships from the harbors way back in Beta Phase 1. Took them a long time and a few tries to "fix" it. I remember the very first time the POTCO Community Team (Marceline Guild) took their ship, The Magic, out publicly they sailed through part of Port Royal. lol, good times.
