Does anyone remember all the talk from a year or more ago about the POTCO UK version, and all the hype that went with it?

Everyone was worried that UK would have so much more stuff, and better graphics, and new story lines, and ...... ad infinitum.

Well, I recently read about how Disney is shutting down all their non-US servers and integrating all the other countries into the US servers. TT Japan, UK, etc. are all being shutdown.

We haven't heard a word about POTCO UK in probably 6 months or more. That huge ad campaign, and all those fantastic graphics and ideas that were in those ads? POOF! Up in smoke!

It's a consolidation effort on Disney's part. Probably a huge cost savings, too.

Probably to have more people in the quiet servers. Make it look like the game is booming.

Maybe all those ideas in those adds will be included soon. Or maybe they will close here too. I wonder how are they going to moderate the language now that other countries will be included in the US servers. I actually am starting to look forward to see Others.

Wonder if that means more resources for US,,,and more releases...etc....hopefully...

hmmm this sounds interesting i wonder what will happen haha i do hope they add ever thing they were in the other games to here if they had any or like basil said poof! smoke haha

The biggest things that I remember about the POTCO UK ads was:

"Customize your ship!"

And:

"Battle Sea Monsters"

Those 2 things stand out because of all the discussion about them here on the forums. There were people who wanted to quit POTCO US to join POTCO UK because of them. (LOL, and they never happened.)

Best I'd suggest, is that they integrate all the POTCO games worldwide as one, instead of making it POTCO US and POTCO UK. Thats what Runescape is like, except that there are servers for every country, but players can go to any server.

I still find it hilarious that the majority of people ignore the fact that even if the UK servers launched, they'd be no different from the regular US. Version. It'd be an exact copy, not different at all.

And the UK servers are linked to the US servers on toontown, so they're playing the EXACT same game on the exact same servers as the US players. There never were any plans for a whole different game. It'd be a waste to introduce a whole new game to only one set of countries.

Quitting POTCO US and going over to the UK servers would literally have been ripping yourself off. There would be no ship customization and sea monsters. If it's not on the US game why would it be on the UK game?

There would be no "different game" or "better game", it'd be the exact same thing. All the pictures on the POTCO UK site were pre-beta. Those skeletons were just tests.

I have already met several people from other countries in the POTCO US. I had a friend from Australia and another from Brazil. I met someone from Germany the other day and I know that many others from more countries are probably already in the US version. To me it would make sense that Disney would combine all into the POTCO US. Im sure it would save a ton of money and would only be one site to update and add to or change. However, this could make the servers/oceans busier across the board. And if this happens, then I hope they add more servers soon after. As far as the chatting goes, no idea how they could make it easier for someone speaking a language other than English to speak to us or us understand them. I know there is a language barrier between me and my friend from Brazil. Many things get lost in translation. I dont know Portugese and only a little Spanish. All I can say is the speed chat that they have already in the game for quests and so forth will come in very handy.

Don't you get it? There never WAS a Potco UK! That's what this post was all about.
Mac is the only one who seems to have understood.
Last year, Disney ran a TON of ads in the UK and Europe about a POTCO UK. The ads showed lots of things that weren't even available, but were only proposed for the future. The fourms and fansites were all ablaze with chatter about it. And, it never happened.

There won't be any new speedchat phrases in foreign languages. There won't be any new things brought into the game from other countries! There won't be new servers to make up for the NON-EXISTANT servers that aren't being shutdown.

All along, people from other countries were playing on the same servers as the US was. The fact that ToonTown had different servers and languages, it never happened for POTCO. And now, Disney is shutting those down for the other games. We all have friends from many other countries, and some probably didn't even realize it. One of the best pirates I've known was from Australia, and many are from other places.

My OP was meant to deliver that point. All the fanfare from last year was an exercise in futility!

And I'm from India and I have met many Indians in the game. And very true points Kate, they must make it one game like Runescape did, but they can also have country based servers. For example Abassa is for EC US, Antiano is PST US, Vachira is for the Briitish Isles, etc. Keep in mind that this DOESN'T mean that one can't trvel from one server to another... its just how it is in Runescape. As for languages... Runescape has opted for making English a compulsory language but they do offer it in various other languages. For example, for India they're gonna put mainly English and optionally Hindi or local languages.

Lol I'm half asleep. After readying what Basil and Mac said again I can see now the scarcasim. Im not surprised that Disney never went through with the launching of POTCO UK. They have let us all down many times. . .
