Fighting without getting enemy hits...
Maybe this is a bug, maybe a trick, or perhaps just the way the game goes, so i'm not sure which forum to put it in. If the powers that be think it should be somewhere else...groovin
![]() I, like so many others, am waiting for the boss battle to be fixed, and am just leveling weapons at this point. I went to Driftwood this morning to fight some humongo crabs and work on my gun and dagger and noticed something odd. There is a spot on the island where the big guys spawn every few seconds, and it's super close to the water. While shooting at one, and stepping back every couple of shots so I wouldn't get run over, I noticed that everytime I got my feet in the water, I wasn't taking any damage. So I tested it....go up on the beach, start shooting a lev 23 crab, lure it towards the water, get my feet wet and stand still.....didn't get a scratch. Took a few steps out of the water, and then the thing could attack me back. Back in the water a bit, and I could damage the heck out of the thing without a single health point lost. Not losing any health was cool, but I also noticed I didn't earn any gold from these attacks either. Is this supposed to happen? Anyone else experience this? Have I just let a big secret out of the bag? LOL

I will have to try that! Does it happen at any water area or just one spot on the island?
My "no damage" find is with Fly Traps. Doesn't work all the time, but apparently they cannot damage you very well if you stand close in tight to their bases. The bigger the Fly trap, the better! And many times, I have found just the right spot to stand and receive no damage during the attack. I can then use any weapon to defeat the plant. I notice that as I increase in Notoriety (I am approaching level 27) that almost all "enemies" below my level are not causing me damage (at least not any appreciable damage that I can see). I just assumed that was the way the game always played. The only area where I still receive significant damage from a lower level opponent is during ship "play". |

I didn't check out other parts of the Island, since this spot seemed to be working so well for me. LOL. I took a screen shot, and once I figure out how to post it, I'll put it up

I've defeated many of the giant crabs to level up on weapons....only occasionally do you receive gold or anything else for that matter except rep points.

I wonder if the reason you weren't getting any gold was because you were fighting crabs. Usually, when I'm fighting animals, I don't get gold. I will occassionally get the odd collectible (which gives some gold), but I don't usually get any loose gold.

I have reported many other bugs of the same type...where you can do something and the enemy mobs won't attack you. I consider those to be 'exploits' since that is not how the game is suppose to react to your actions.
Hopefully the devs will get that bug and the other exploit bugs fixed soon. Toodles, Dolnor Numbwit aka Beth Darkfury Eternal Arr-bie

I think when you get to a certain level, lower level enemies can't damage you. I can stand in a group of anything level 21 or below and never take a hit.
That's what makes the field at Kingshead a good place to help friends level up their weapons. I can "bait" the group of veterans and stand in the middle of them. Then my friend can attack them without taking hits and get the rep for doing it. It's especially helpful when someone is working on their grenades, because it keeps the group from chasing the grenade thrower.

An update here...
I tested this "standing in the water thing" out all over Driftwood and was never attacked back. Tried it on Devil's Anvil when dropping off a load of cargo and it didn't work there, got attacked right back. I'm going to try some other islands today, and post the results. Think it may just be a Driftwood thing... Worked my voodoo doll up three levels in like 45 minutes by attuning three giant crabs at once, luring them to the waters edge and just using Poke on them. Got 100 pts a piece for them. Probably could have gone further, but it got boring, LOL. Arrr

lol guys you did realise this works both ways.
Enemies 10 levels or lower than you cannot hit you, but enemies 10 level or higher above you, you cannot hit them! |

About not being able to attack anyone 10 or higher than you, I have, I do, so I haven't seen that before. As far as those more than 10 under your level, I haven't paid much attention, but you may be right that they can't damage you...It may just be that you take them out so fast they don't have a chance to hurt you. |

Thanks for the info, Vangelis. I didn't know it was a ten level difference either way.
I think the difference with the crab on Driftwood is that it doesn't attack you when you're in the water. Kind of like the Grunt in Fort Charles that doesn't attack you if you keep him up on the gallows, regardless of your level. I used both of those enemies in my lower levels to get big chunks of rep points. The enemies that are 10+ lower level than you do attack you, they just never hit you.

Not sharing?? Awe, how very pirate of you By the by I didn't think this was a "glitch", I didn't do it on purpose. It just happens I found that when you're on Driftwood, and you lure an enemy to the water, they can't attack you. I've tried the "water trick" on every other Island, and it's a no go. Got to be a Driftwood only thing....works for me
