"If you give a mouse a cookie, he's going to ask for a glass of milk..."
I know some of you are frustrated with Disney's (seeming) lack of progress on POTCO. And now that we are set to to receive a HUGE change in the way things are done, some of us have nothing but questions or complaints. The questions I get. The complaints? I really don't get that. Just so that I am not branded a hypocrite, I have complained about the lack of a new story line. But as an eternal optimist, I have to believe that EVERYTHING up to this point has been in order to set up the new Chapter. For almost two years I have heard and read about how we all want "More Weapons", "More Closet Space", "The Ability to trade" and so on. Disney said, "Fine. Here it is." We say, "I want a glass of milk..." It is possible that a new story line is complex enough to require this much storage space. We can only hope. And wait. But this is cool and I want to start looking for weapons. If you made a mad rush to Master everything, then don't complain. You did what you set out to do. It is not Disney's fault that more powerful weapons are of no use to you. I, for one, look forward to it. Quote:

How about a real pirate game. Live a terrible life, and die young, usually at the hands of the Navy. The EITC would be just a shipping company that uses crew who have jumped ship or could not cut it in the British Navy. Their seamanship would be scorned by the "real" sailors of the Navy. You would only really use fast sloops and hug the coastlines and you would be lucky if the entire crew had 500 rounds of ammo. And everyone would smell terrible. Throwing knives? Voodoo Dolls? Where is the realism there? I like the changes. If they lead to nothing then I will be disappointed. BUT I AM GOING TO WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE RELEASED BEFORE I COMPLAIN ABOUT THEM! Until then, Semper Fidelis.

Where to start.
First, not sure how we got hooked on comparing the new weapons drops to the clothing drops. Clothing drops are not the only type of drop out there. Where do you get the extra playing cards from? Or the other "treasure" items you get along the way. I have been playing the game for 26 months and never got a clothing drop. Then there is all the negitive speculation going on. Not one pirate on this site has any idea how any of this new stuff is going to work. So how can you sit there and cut it down? Fair winds mates. Good points Ray
As for drops, I have in the past picked up a clothing item or two and they were rare. BUT - keep in mind, that these new drops are part and parcel with the new weapons sysyem - so they will likely be MUCH more common, especially when fighting tougher enemies. Likely you will find more more basic daggers, swords etc. unless you do in a major league baddie or get lucky. But that's what rare things are about. It took a long time alone for me to find all the original treasures, even though I found a lot of them. EC PS - It is likely NOT the best idea to criticize something we know nothing about or seen in action. Which is why on my first post, I PLEADED for folks to give this stuff a chance... and that's NOT trolling - its optimism. Last edited by Eliza Creststeel; 03-19-2010 at 03:23 PM.. I really don't see a problem with the weapon slots. I really only use one or two most of the time anyways. the exceptions being leveling and healing. For leveling I find even with a boss I can only use 2 most of the time 3 tops and get max rep for each. I guess a lower level might be able to stretch a higher level boss out a bit longer but chances are they are gonna be done in pretty quick.
As far as a new story line I would love nothing more and I hope its coming but I'll have more to do tommarow than I did yesterday so I'm happy for now. It is if nothing else a step in the right direction have to see where it take us. |

Ok, lot to cover here, bear with me.
Quote:
I believe you hit the nail on the head there Kid. However, the news says new cutlasses, Staves (their word not mine.), pistols and daggers. It does not say dolls. So I'm thinking the weapons we pick from will be just those 4. Which certainly mixes things up rather a lot. (And yet looking back it does have pictures of multiple dolls but no staff, so maybe you are right.) Quote:
Now the clothing, jewelry and ink. It says 42 clothing items, not 24 outfits. (Sorry Bas.) It remains to be seen if like now quest items will not count. If they do I'll be ticked then. If they do then there actually isn't clothing expansion at all. We'll see. No, real pirates would have considered packing 42 clothing items ridiculous. 40 jewelry, probable. Hey, pirate! What good is all this plundering jewels if I can't wear em? At least that would be my guess on pirate philosophy. Then there's this. It says you can hold 42 potions. Not tonics, potions. Might there be now potions set aside for reviving? Possibly something we can use to negatively effect enemies? How cool would that be! (Just a hopeful guess, but it would be sweet.) Another thought, check out the screenie. It has a picture for the cards. Cards have never had a section in the inventory so far as I know. Could this mean that now we'll get to see what cards we have rather than having to sit down at a table and cheat to figure it out? On the gold cap raise. It means nothing to me, she of the 32 (usually broke) pirates. However, I do think there is a reason for the cap raise. I don't think they just did it. I think if not with this update, then there will be something added soon to spend that gold on. Otherwise why bother? Quote:
Anyway, that's just some thoughts for the morning. |

OK I understand where you are coming from Beorn but when is it enough? When does POTC stop giving them everything? Cause again when I started I was NOT able to get the voodoo doll or move forward with any quest until I started to pay (you had to PAY TO PLAY)! I feel that they are given way to much, they get a voodoo doll now, more quests then when I started. They pretty much don't ever need to pay, as most are kids who can make up stories and games in there heads and and play as a basic and get lots for free. POTC needs to buckle down and stop this nonsense, its no wonder why more of there members are Basics rather then unlimited and its no wonder why more and more unlimited are stopping there memberships. There seems to be more perks being a basic then a unlimited these days!

run it down
Seems like a lot of the criticism I'm seeing here is based on FALSE assumptions. So, let's break it down.
They indicate that you be able to carry up to 35 weapons - AT ONE TIME. 30 of those will be stored in the Sea Chest, with 5 active (4 weapons and one Sailing/Cannon boost). AT ANY TIME, it shows you can bring up your weapons and use a drag/drop feature to swap them out. **This is important, because it means you don't have to go a merchant or some captain's quarters in order to make the change** It also appears that on occasion you will find a dropped weapon. Since they make a BIG point about this, likely you will find them more often than people here think. If your weapons have an empty slot, the dropped weapon appears to be added. IF YOU LOOK at the picture, it shows some weapons in the grid are repeated (the two witch voodoo dolls are the most obvious). So, if you recover a duplicate item or something you don't want - the game will offer a way to sell it (either to a merchant or perhaps even another player). Also, NOTE at the bottom is a trash can icon. Is this to sell off or just throw away an unwanted weapon? As for clothes, it does appear that it will be a total of 42 objects combined - this as opposed to the current 28 slots (7 of which are defaults). But, by combining them into a big pile - it appears you will be able to have a lot of one kind of attire if you want (10 shirts, a couple of vests, etc.) There is a separate tab for cards. So, it looks like you will be able to tell ahead of time what's up your sleeve before getting into a game. Good to know. There is a Tonics tab. which makes sense. Tonics never belonged in the Skills tab. The jewelry tab appears to be shared with tattoos so the 40 slots will be combined. That will actually be a LOSS of slots (Originally 32 jewelry and 16 tats = 48). I guess that could be a topic of complaint. So, what is the Cannonball Barrel tab for? Anyone care to speculate? The pic also shows a six-digit gold cap. So, they must expect us to be spending that or have something we will need that much for. Moving on, they called the Cutlass picture a Card. So, likely this is showing the details of a weapon including the Attack bonus it gives. This might also imply that some may actually have a Defense bonus. No comment on the rolling attack and other special moves since like everything else - it would be theory. |

You know what would be great? Being able to drop or otherwise get rid of the starter clothes. Am I the only who thinks this way? With the exception of one pirate, I really don't use any of the starter clothes anymore.... |

With this update you are still going to recieve more then any single basic will.I know I must seem irate here but a have a short temper, the things you speak of are unbelievably thoughtless in my opinion. My apoligies if I was over-rude but I had a point to be seen. ************ I doubt basic will be able to obtain El Patron's lost sword. ************ As for the new "Weapon Belt" having only four main weapons slots:I think I actually like it better that way then any other,I would love to carry four different swords at once frankly. I also like being able to hold far more tonics, you sea chest is now part first-aid kit.

When I started, I was Basic. I got to level 12 and stopped leveling. I had like what? A sword and a pistol (froggy went a courtin') and a dreary gray nameplate. I looked at the Unlimited players and their fancy blue names and daggers and Staffs and decided that I would pay for my son and I to have that too. If I had gotten more back then, I NEVER would have started paying. Personally? Non-paying players add nothing to the Disney bank accounts. I, on the other hand, have given them a couple of hundred bucks. So do I believe I deserve WAY more? Absolutely, I do. I also believe that basic membership should be just that. Basic. A sword, a pistol and access to the light boat category. I could go on and on. It is not discrimination, it's economics. |

Break from topic here for a sec...
Some points on posting our opinions here. If disney doesn't want people to speculate negatively about how an update is going to effect them, then they shouldn't do news releases until the material is on test. It's the nature of the MMO player to wonder how things are going to effect them in game. Positvely or not. We here at POF need to understand that. Especially when disney hasn't had the best track record and gives it's members absolutely no offical way to communicate with them. It's seen on the LOTRO forums all the time, but there the devs come in and actually talk with the players, either calming fears (if an update hasn't hit the public test servers yet) or trying to explain changes. And most of the time, it helps. There are always those who will think any update wasn't enough, etc. as there are always those who think the game designers are flawless. The fact that Disney has no way for us, the players, to communicate with them, other than fill out a comment thing and get a canned reply, is like they are saying to us "We don't want your opinion, we just want to know if it doesn't work". Well, Here, (thank you Nick) we can bounce our opinions and frustrations off each other and figure it all out together. All Civil like ![]() Carry On Mates. |

Disney is not giving basic access more. Not really. They recently put a level 13 cap on all basic members, and they also seriously reduced the clothing choices in pirate creation (not a big deal for unlimiteds, but it is for basics). I have a friend who has been in the game forever, and is basic. He told me that Basics used to be able to purchase double barreled pistols and better swords. And look at all the recent unlimited-only quests. No, I think, if anthing, Disney is clamping down on us.
