Yes, look at the detail on the ships! We barely have any realism to the enemy sails now. The EITC is just plain ole black and white checks, but in the picture, you can see three swords crossing with EITC on them. Also, this may be off topic, but I think it was cooler when you saw your ship come out of nowhere when you launched it, and it was all ready, you swing on it. . . and sail out the bay! Unfortunately, Disney removed that, and we get a loading screen I just was really disappointed, never even got to see those cool things, joined August 2008. Doesn't it look more realistic with ropes than loading screen and you are just there? (Sorry if off topic) There is also an enemy captain on that panther, which was removed in the previous update. It would be awesome if our sailing was like that, not the new cargo, less lag, old ship designs. . . keep those, just whats in that picture is good!

You miss the timer that only allowed sailing for a period of time?

I think the timer would be nice, in some ways that is. Say you are fighting skeleton ships on your war galleon. You have a full load and your way far out at sea, not near any islands. And your ship is in the red zone. You could just let the timer go off and you are at the nearest island. But they would have to make it sort of a long time.

Didn't the timer just send you to jail, which means you would receive no cargo?

Lol now that you explained, BAD TIMER! Still, I wish they had it just so it could send you to port and recieve your cargo.

Yes i am glad the timer is gone, i like the new sailing (but i do play on high graphics) more. The EITC markings on the sails seemed a bit silly to me, i mean, who actually paints their sails? Aren't flags for that?

Another point why i didn't like the old sailing was the fact that on busy servers there were always people saying that the Kraken would come from the ocean and drag your ship down if you waited long enough.... So many people waited an hour on the ship anxious to see the Kraken and were then sent straight to jail with nothing but disappointment.

Besides... How many pirates sailed the Caribbean staring at an hourglass? Not something i would see Jack Sparrow doing... Hehe!

Hmm, then you also didn't get to experience the problems with it.

You summoned your ship from the dockworker's office on the dock. Your ship magically appeared to the end of the dock and you had to run to it. There was about... 30 seconds to run to the ship, jump aboard the ship and grab your helm. If you weren't fast enough, your ship would disappear and you had to do the whole thing again. And then, from islands like Devil's Anvil, you had to swim to your ship and climb aboard. Oh wait, it didn't work? You actually kept on running underwater and never got on your ship? Indeed, it was great fun logging out and in again just because your ship got stuck on the island.

This also meant that the enemy ships were actually inside the bay you launched your ship from. Wohoo? Nay, i don't think so. On a level 3 pirate, in the smallest dinghy, against a level 28 Man-O-War? It was highly unlikely to survive. And don't forget the fact that there was this great guild called the Cuba Gang, who spent their days blocking islands and not letting people get through. Since at that time every ship was able to sink the other. Kinda like non-stop SvS!

If you had crew, they also had to swim to the ship and the Captain allowed them the access to board... I think, at least you weren't able to jump on every time. Good swimming practice though!

This all was in Beta 1 though... So it has been years since any of these things have actually been in the game. I'd recall they took the ship launching off right before Beta 2? If someone remembers better than me, please share.

Thanks Jeanne, didn't realize there were so many cons before the loading screen update! I just saw a trailer and assumed it was cool, well it wasn't. Now that I have seen that this was not the best. . . I am glad its gone! Didn't really like that timer. . . didn't spend too much time sailing, was normally on land leveling cutlass. Ah about those sails, a while back on talk like a pirate day, I was able to see Catherine Harcourt and Thatch Roberts alone on a server talking. I approached the nice GM, and asked my best friend to come with me. I asked of ship customization. . . this is the answer I got (Don't know how to upload the screen, but heres the quotes). William Swordcastle: "I like to sail alot, when will I get to make my own ship?" [GM] Catherine Harcourt: "Darby and the rest of the shipwrights have been working hard for that" [GM] Thatch Roberts: "A fine question ye be askin'... I think ms Harcourt has that answer for ye" [GM] Catherine Harcourt: "the time be soon when we can fly our own flags high" William Swordcastle looks amazed. There ya have it, the dialogue from a screen shot on Talk Like A Pirate Day!

You can still have that type of sailing. If you go to the options, then go to display setting, pick high preformance, then log off, then log back on, then tell me how AWESOME your graphics look! Lol! Go sailing and it will be like the old times
You may experience lag, because the game is focusing more on graphics than the preformance of the game itself, but first i would try going to a quieter server.
Let me know how that works for ya!

Actually the only thing that has changed from that is the EITC symbol, plus they have a little better water graphics and more sharper ship decorations than before.
