On open, the ideal servers are mayhem & laggy. The quiet ones are much better even though there are fewer pirates. I jumped servers, today. The ideal ones lost. The quiet ones won. The enemy strength is calculated somehow on the pirates present & their skills. Don't get me wrong, we went to jail alot, but in the end we won & the rep was much better on quiet servers.

I got to try my hand at an invasion over the weekend and - for the most part - was genuinely impressed. I never played TT, so this was my first experience.
That having been said, the lag made it completely impossible to enjoy. Lag kicked in immediately, and locked up solid. I heard three of the announcements from JR, and saw two of the message bars indicating that waves were attacking different barricades. I freed up for a bit, and got in on a little action, but as soon as JR voice over for his assault come on I froze up again for the duration. I did see him walk directly over my pirate at one point, but wasn't able to move. Obviously, a quiet server will be a benefit - but, any suggestions on overcoming what appears to be lag caused by the audio files? Long term I think that the plan is still a sound starting point. I was able to attune three crew members before the lag hit and managed to keep them out of jail using the healing hex's. Was able to do some damage using cutlass and also pistol once the lag abated. I'm hoping to be able to crew up with a big group on a quiet server - ideally partnering with a guild that will have multiple crews: which would allow comm thru the crew, and guild chat windows to streamline coordination. If a guild is organizing such an event I would be happy to lend a blade. |

I found that if you attack JR when he's at the mansion, as long as there's a good group of people around, he goes down pretty easily.
Today I did that, and he didn't even get the chance to fight back. We won, obviously. XD That's also how we won in our last victory too... CS~ |

Got to try it again last night on a quiet server, with a full crew. Not nearly as many other pirates around. Did find out that people can still TP to you once the invasion begins (wasn't too sure about that previously).
Lag was still bad, but - it had been an issue for me all night. Using the guide from POTCO I reset my graphics to low and unfortunately it felt like the performance was worse. Having only a limited number of pirates was brutal. We 'won' in the end, but lost all six barricades (and, the rep bonuses). Still think that a fairly large guild that can round up five or six full crew's will be the ideal arrangement to take on an invasion. Also found that staff with flame was very useful. Aligned myself along the front of a barricade at one end and shot the flame along the face of the barricade. Would hit four or five (or more) targets that were stopping to assail the barricade. Lots of kills, good rep. Came up behind a group attacking the middle barricade on the right side of PR and took out a clump with a satchel charge - and then pistol for the leftovers. Kept having to remind myself to use the correct shot for stumps (as opposed to all the undead). This is definitely the most fun I have had since they came out with privateering. |
