Retro Island days!!!!
Alright, I'm stopping by the forums after like seven months,(lol) to tell you about something I've come up with. What do you think? Should there be days/weeks/week-ends/months or so where they change the islands back to normal? This is your time to give your thoughts and keep them coming!!!!!
Sincerely, your master of lore, Robert Plant! Last edited by joere444; 10-31-2009 at 04:34 PM.. Reason: Removed non-approved link |

I don't really like the idea.. seems like too much work. It took time for them to put the redone islands in, why revert it back to the original for a few days/weeks/week-ends/months/whatever.
In my opinion (and others as well) they should of just left the old ones, and added the new, redone ones, as separate islands. |

I say no.
First... back to normal? I believe the islands ARE returning back to normal just NOW. They were originally 'released' as shortened, limited, etc versions as they were in a hurry to beat a competing game to market. The "normal" islands that you refered to were just wisps of what they were intended. These were very uneventful, easy layouts that lacked interest and made the game incredibly easy, which the game doesnt need to be. I applaud the changes, and have no interest whatsoever in seeing the game turned back. I dont see any point that it would serve. |

What normal?
Here's what I'd really like to see. Take the old Port Royal, the town, not the island, and do a face lift on it. Put it on the back of the current Port Royal island. Why is it that the islands can only have one town on them? They are big islands. Running from town to town, through the caves, could be fun.

The issue is what is considered "normal" now? Since the island redesign (which to improve framerates by shortening line of sight), I think these are now meant to be the new normal - so the old are gone for good.
Not to say I don't miss the old PR and back beach of Padres... But these I think are gone for good.Quote:

I do understand the idea of "retro" but dont see that it would really be that "nostalgic", and I think it would likely cause more problems in POTCO. First of all, big update days are slow and painstaking on POTCO, everyone logging in, downloading the updates. A 'retro' day would have everyone performing major updates for the event, and then again after to go back to.. <GASP> normal! |

I have to agree with Zep here. I think the game is only just now beginning to be a glimmer of what they intended it to be from the start. Putting things back the way they were short term would solve nothing but to confuse new players. I mean, if a pirate were to try the game for the first time on the day before the new islands go back, how confused would they be? Going back serves no purpose.
I also really love Basil's idea. Maybe in future expansions we will get just that. One can hope. Honestly, in a way I think it's funny. How long have some of you been waiting, hoping for all this new stuff that hit test just yesterday. Yet still some are wishing for the old ways. Celebrate, the game is growing at last! |

I agree with Zep and Hawke, this game is starting to turn in a good direction so let them keep on that direction.
Basil's idea is great, but the towns should offer different things. |

Well from my point of view , the islands still need another makeover , well at least Jamaica and Tortuga , the current Tortuga needs a somewhat more activity to it in npcs like there should be guys in the bars having a brawl or something like that.
As well I think the shipwrights should be redone , really can I trust to by a ship from a guy who sells them out of half a ship? As for Jamaica ( and the town or port royal )it needs a few more movie items , like some horse stables and the carriage that took Elizabeth to the fort. And possible some chickens walking around the island. Just my idea for a more "Movie like island " , Robert Plant , weren't you in the Korsairs? How have you been doing? toanuju22 |

I like the way the major islands look now, especially Port Royal. Actually, I would like to see Cuba have a town that looked like the 'old' Tortuga.

I personally want some more islands. However, I liked the old layout of the old Port Royal in that it had many of the features that Port Royal had in the movies, such as the bridge, the dock, and the market. I liked the old Port Royal because you could walk through a market/strip mall, head through a quaint little town, and up to the mansion after a quick walk up a wooded hill. The one we have today is too.... Urban.
I do like the idea of more than one town on an island. Perhaps a savages' village hidden somewhere up a path into a jungle in northern Tortuga. |

I'm kind of torn on that subject. One hand I like how the islands look now, but on the other hand I kind of miss how they used to look too. I alslo liked running up that hill to get to the mansion. The mansion seems to close to the actual town now. It should be farther away somehow.
