New Features and Updates now Live June 02, 2009

We've released new features and improvements to Pirates of the Caribbean, log in now. This is a perfect chance to begin your life as a Pirate as we've expanded and changed many early game experiences. Enjoy!


New Features:

• Early Quests have been modified for better playability, including Quests to find the first three Black Pearl crew members and Quest lines related to the Voodoo Doll
• Introduced 70 new tutorial pop-up hints, these hints can be turned on and off from the Game Options Menu (F7)

Transportation Enhancements

• Added new Dockworker NPCs to help Pirates stowaway on ships. This is a new transportation option which helps Pirates reach their destination without sailing a ship or needing a Teleport Totem. To become a stowaway, find a Dockworker on the dock of Tortuga, Port Royal, Padres Del Fuego or Cuba and pay him the gold he requests for the service.
• Added 38 new, player submitted ship names to the Shipwrights Ship Naming Menu

Technical Enhancements

• In areas throughout the game, changed enemy difficulties for better playability
• Added Chat Permission Status to the Pirate Profile Panel
• Added an option to toggle on and off Windows Sticky Keys (this option is disabled by default)

Additional Improvements & Bug Fixes:

• Changing Cannon Ammunition types no longer restarts the recharge timer
• Made several bug fixes to NPC's: returned Navy Sailors to normal heights, enemies no longer ambush players and enemies will no longer attack Pirates once you leave their area
• Better feedback/flow for guild name requests.
• The loading screen now appears when starting game instead of a black screen
• Polished the drop down Main Menu and Escape key interaction
• Made several improvements to the Ray of Light to address tracking and hint problems
• Removed the Quest completion percentages from the Journal page
• Re-enabled the "dazed" effect above a Pirates head (for higher-detail graphics/effects settings)
• Fixed a bug where your ship's repair spots would not be available even when the ship was stopped

Important Account and Customer Support Changes June 02, 2009



Tabbed Accounts

For security reasons, we have removed the ability to tab between Linked Accounts on the Pirate selection screen. Please sign in with each account's unique login and password for the account you want to play. Please remember that your chat settings are set in the account, to change these settings log in and select "Manage Account" from the menu.

Sent them my thoughts on this horrible change. If they don't reverse it, I'm very very likely to cancel before 7/1 - my next payment date.

Thoughtless and poor choice on Disney's part.

Yeah, I'll probably not pay when my next payment due; mostly due to getting rid of linked accounts, and the fact that they call "new" things the same enemies with new names and juggled levels. Can the Big-D go that low?

I still don't understand the reasoning behind getting rid of quest % complete, some quests take a long time and some don't, I really liked seeing that I was making progress or how far I had to go without checking a wiki or something.
Another pain is the linked accounts. I had my son linked and could see easily if he was on before I signed in. Sure there are other ways to find out, could surprise him before.
I've been close to leaving, Disney is just making it that much easier to do so with these changes.

I agree with you there... I quite like planning out my quests based on those percentages...

I still think the percentage was removed because there will be no Chapter 2 and they don't want players knowing how much is left before they're completely done.

Finally, some people understand that the game is just giving us things we don't need. I actually haven't seen any point to come back since October, after all, the new islands have done nothing. And with these 'new' (and I use that really lightly) enemies, it would seem they want to get rid of a few members. If they aren't going to keep to their word and give us what 'we' want to see, then that is their choice. I also love how I hear that people in the Grog Blog seem so happy, and it kills me how they claim they haven't gone online yet, I'm sure they'll be highly disappointed.

I made it official after all this junk with linked accounts and did NOT renew my membership with Disney today. I had a main account with my fully mastered pirate and linked my son's account so he could play with the benefits. He is 12 and we played online together many, many nights at the same time with out computers next to each other. It was a lot of fun and I am going to miss the game and the friendships I have developed online.

Yes, I have seen several people use the linked account feature to avoid bans. Removing linked accounts will not stop people from misbehaving. This will only encourage them to try harder to find ways around it and make the game worse in the long run.

I hope the powers that be realize that this was a terrible idea to remove the linked accounts feature and restore the fun for those that were using it for its intended purpose.

Good ol' Raik doesn't believe that the chapter will be out even by then. Judging by this 'Big' update, they'll have a month of slackage again I'm sure, sorta like last summer. But then they'll probably only add the chapter without the Kraken in it, then it will be terribly short compared to chapter 1, and also have no Cap Raise. You guys may as well understand you may not get satisfied until at least September or so. If the big D does somehow make it before September though, then I'll load my cannons, and I'll fire once more against the ol' Navy.

BTW POTCO: don't forget how we all thought the New Islands meant something last year. It took you about one month and another half of a month to even come out with Ship PvP which mas mention months before. I sure enjoyed the quests though, I mean, who wouldn't want to attack the same enemy continuously and then do it again to another type of enemy that has the same weaponry? All I can say, is "Enjoy 1 more month of Founding Members."

Can't wait to see this years Founder's Feast, it will be rather dull without a single founder.

(And I didn't say EITC or Undead because they are rather much weak without one another. Not to mention that the Red uniforms amazingly spew less blood.)

Without the ability to link accounts there is no reason for me to continue playing. I used to play with my 2 grandsons aged 4 and 6. I will be contacting the phone help tomorrow to see about a refund from my recent renewal.

i be with you all, with out any Real NEW THINGS in this game i find no reason to pay till they make some REAL NEW thing for the Game. i can wait ( like i would for any new movie ) but i am not going to pay to wait... Savvy....

Best not pay, after all, people like Captain Walter are getting paid by you, and all they do is play the game themselves... I also did something similar to what you did Sven, I definitely got that person fired though, made em curse me out, and the sad part is that it was more fun than the game.
