Some helpful chat tips

Ahoy me hearties!

Some of you may know most of this, others may not. Here are some tips for using the chat in Pirates of The Carribean Online

For ages 13 and below
Unless you have gotten open chat on your own, you will have what we call "Safe chat" or "cross chat"
You are limited to what you can say when you have safe chat. You can't say much with safe chat, unless its pirate or game-related.If you say a word that isnt in the POTCO dictionary, all you will get is arrr, which is Disney saying "hey this isnt in our dictionary, make it pirate related!"

For ages 13 and above
By default, you should get open chat at the age of 13. With open chat, you can speak freely, but you are still partially limited. Some words that are found to be innapropriate will be filtered, no, you wont get the arrr thing, but it will be filtered to where nothing appears in the chat box.

Someone with open chat talking to someone with safe chat
This is hard for some, but its the way the chat runs. If you have open chat, and you are trying to talk to someone who has safe chat, you must turn the + on in your chat box. This will make the one with open chat, have safe chat temporarily, but you can turn it off as soon as you are done talking to the one with safe chat

Giving away websites
I wouldnt say a website unless its like a guild site, or may POF. You can not say the full URL though, you would have to flood it. Dont give away things like your e-mail or a website that contains all of your information

Keep all of your info safe
Never ask, or give away ANY of your account info (at least not in the game) I can assure you will be caught right away and could be banned/suspended. If you are trying to link accounts with a friend with someone, dont do it in the game, use Instant messenger or something like that.

Spamming
Please do your best not to spam the chat. Be courteous of others who also use the chat. If you are spamming, you can slow everyone else down, or worse, you can lag them out. If you want to spam on your own, dont do it in crew or guild.

Using speed chat phrases
When you are using speed chat phrases, you can talk to ANYONE. Even if someone with open chat is talking to someone with safe chat, you can still talk to them using the speed chat phrases.
Some notes: Even if you are ignoring someone, if they are using speed chat phrases, you can still hear them! If you are being ignored, and you know it, please dont use speed chat phrases just to get attention. If you are ignoring someone, they cannot whisper, go to, crew you, or send you a friend request. You can very easily just teleport away to avoid them, and they cant follow

There are many, many other issues with the chat. It is not so straight-forward as that. You didn't mention that accounts for people that Disney thinks are under-13, don't have the plus sign/blank space thing, immediately to the right of the skull in the bottom left corner. "Safe chat" people sometimes cannot be heard by over-13 pirates, unless the over-13 pirates have the plus sign turned on (I am not certain if that is a new glitch, that appeared this last week, or what.)

More inconsistent, is crew chat (arguably the chat that works "the best" in most situations) where the plus sign is crucial. When two or more over-13 pirates are in crew with an under-13 pirate, sometimes they cannot hear the under-13 pirate's comments if they do have the plus sign turned on. (Sometimes they do, anyhow.)

You didn't describe the work-around (linked accounts) for when the parental controls can't be set properly through DisneyXD. When using the linked-accounts feature to bypass the broken chat, sign in using the "over-13" id, then use the left/right arrows (that appear to the left and right of the account name near the top left) to select your pirate.

One thing that every pirate can do, even under-13 pirates who have had all safe-chat turned off: using the skull in the bottom left corner. The preset-phrases from that skull can always be heard.

So, I've described above, how things are supposed to work (and often do) but not much can be said about chat, when things start failing. For some reason, chat always seems to be the first thing to go...can you hear me now? (For me, the broken chat has caused more outbursts of profanity, than SvS.)

:-) Perhaps you should read my comments more closely. Again, you didn't note that over-13 chat has the extra thing (plus sign/thought bubble) that under-13 chat does not.

While you did say that over-13 pirates have to have the plus sign on to talk to under-13 pirates, you didn't point out that you can't hear them, (most of the time) either.

And you certainly didn't mention anything at all, about the linked-accounts work-around.

But hey, doesn't matter as much now, with the entire chat system being revamped in the next update.

Much of this changes with the new Chat Box - so before you run off to do updating - ya may want to wait for that update to hit live...
