skills lvl 20 is max?
I'm currently 21 Notoriaty, but I'm level 20 Sailor, and the bar doesn't move anymore. I assume 20 is the cap for any skills. Anyone know if this is going to be the cap at release for skills? Kind of makes me rethink some skills I got.

Not sure about the cap... but what do you think about the game now that you have almost finisted it..?
I'm almost 1/2 way and starting to wonder if it's even worth it... Will you pay to do it all over again..? Or have you already started working other avatars..?

Not really sure about the cap either but as for the game being worth it if disney designed this game for any kind of future my guess is there may be constant patches to add new content ( islands, quests, weapons ) hopefully like blizzard does with world of warcraft... basically this game could have no limits and be around for a very long time..

Gee lol I'm only 1% done. I guess I don't have to worry for a while. I'm only 3% done with the list. There's not another quest after that? Last edited by Pirate Rose; 10-07-2007 at 12:12 AM.. |

O.K. let me ask you this... How many times will you do the gypsy quest..?
Is it fun after the 4th time, or do you just say forget this..? If I've done the gypsy quest 200 times, do you go "That's just crazy, but I bet you wish you could do that"..? Sure they can just keep writing quest after quest. But once your skill level is capped- you have all the gold- and 3 of the best ships, the only thing left is who will sit there and kill 350 assassins to get to the almost last quest. To me, dumbjng down the controller of a game to make it more fun is the worst thing any game dev. can do... How can you keep working on a game if you can't even get navigation to work after 2+ years..? Yeah, getting to level 20+ with lousy navigation, and the same goofy quests over and over for this game is amazing, but was it so much fun you will pay $$ to do it over again- and then, how long will you pay to keep that status... Let's see... $12 a month is $144 a year, almost $150... And $160 for 4 all new, $40 PS games- That work every/any time, and you can re-sell when you are done. Hmm... In real life accumulating gold is called "WORK", but when you pay to do it it's "FUN"..?

Well I'm at noteriety 17 so I have a long ways to go. My black pearl quest at the moment is 3% done now, and I have a long ways to go to cap out all my skills
It is fun finding out which new skill comes next ![]() Like with other games, maybe they'll up the cap

If the post sounds angry, or trollish, it's not towards you, Magicalnights... I just think the game could have been really good, and working long time ago... But the Disney SellBots messed everything up by pushing for too much too soon, and use these mindless quests to make you think you are having fun.
I would only use quests to explain every aspect of the game so there are no instructions, or "hints". Fun is collecting & trading stuff (SellBots & LawBots again), "There could be tax laws involved"... How 'bout this... Learning new facts, making new friends, are REAL things you could take away from the game. LawBots want me to believe some creep was busted for setting-up a meeting with a 5yr odl (in the news recently)... If my 5 yr old types his name right, I feel lucky. (Getting all wound-up again, sorry.

Fun is defined in different ways by different people. Personally, I hate buying and selling and do not find it fun. I do not like meeting new people everyday and find most infuriatingly clingly. (I'm level 16 with 3 friends on my list and that is enough) What I do like is the adventure of the game and the exploration of the world. I like trying to find the treasures, odds and ends, and paintings for my collection. And I like doing the quests. I like taking my ship out on the seas and sinking Navy and EITC ships. When I finish the main quest, would I do it all over again? I don't know, maybe. Yes there is a ways to go in the writing and streamlining of this game. It is in beta and there will be a lot of issues going forward. The game is not meant to be close to perfect at this time and that is why we are here, to report issues no matter how big or small. There is one thing I see in your posts and that is frustration. If any game, online or otherwise, causes me to not have fun, I stop playing it. You state the game "..could have been good.." and "mindless quests to make you think you are having fun.". It sure sounds like your not having a fun time at all and it may be time for you to move on to something that you feel is fun. (Please don't take this as an attacking statement) --JoG PS: I really don't know where the story about the 5 year old fits into any of this. (Not being sarcastic, I don't see your point and I am sure there is one.) |

First, JoG, your post was really well writen, and feel free to blast away at anything I post... I can take it. (people on power trips are the only thing that up-set me on boards).
Well, I waited almost 2 years to get the Beta code... Now I know they had to have something to get funding before that. That being said, Yesterday, after most players were off, was the FIRST time I was able to see the graphics for attacks work right- I was in the jail (not any combat), but I got to see every frame of the attacks... I'm on cable, with Win XP, 2.8 GHz processor, and G force FX 5000 graphics card. Seeing what the game could be like is the only reason I haven't deleted it yet. I'm sure they don't just say "Let's get somebody to test this thing now". I understand load is going to mess with things a little, but 2 + years... For me... I press an arrow key, and let go- nothing will happen, OR I will move 2 or 3 turns... The only place in the game I can move where I want to is in shops, or the jail. You say we are in the game for feed back... I got to ask (still waiting for reply to feed back link I had to search for), I run IE 7, but I can't get the game web pages to load- I get the graphics for link menus, the header/logo, and a nice light blue gradient BG where the page content should be (logged-in or not). Do you know how many companies will give you space, and codes to make Message Boards FREE... If they really wanted to know what we think, why are we posting here (agaist the rules of the game, & could cost you your beta key)..? The 5yr old (that was really a cop) is just a thing I have about stuff they do, like VMK filter, to a chat game. Is a kid that boots, logs-on, reads, and types SMART or not..? How hard is it to understand that there no real way to know who you are talking to on the internet. For some reason, the 5yr old sting story didn't go into where on line it took place. I'm not a preditor... Could I set-up a meeting even with a VMK filter..? Sooo risky, but you bet I could... Like I say, I'm not a predator, but I do go outside, and to think the internet is the best way to do that... Well, you should get busted, and a lot worse. Messing up a chat game so you don't get a "My Space" rep. when this "really smart" kid, can get like 5 or 6 free Instant Message programs... Hmm...

Back to the original question... If 20 is the cap on skills, we're really going to have to plan ahead how to allocate the skill points we get. I hope we get more than that when the real game gets out.

Yep, just leveled up cutlass to level 20 and it doesn't add experience skill points after that. That leaves 34 open skill points compared to the 20 that you are capable filling (1 for each level). Not to mention, you open up the last skill at level 20. I can only think and hope that its capped for an unspecific reason and that this is not an intentional game design for the long term. Not to mention, this puts a serious issue when battling high level mobs as well as boarding ships that are a high level.
As far as what else was earlier posted, I think there is little content currently released as this appears we are really testing basic game mechanics more than content. I would hope clothing, loot drops, etc. will be added at a later date. It appears, especially experiencing bugs still at the quest level, that the concentration is still on basic game play. Really, in my opinion, the game is a good 3 months plus off, with constant updates and added content, from being released. Especially, if they plan on charging a monthly fee and not using a pay to play system. |

Haha, I was just curious if the skill level cap was going to be 20 that's all.
As far as beating the game or getting to the end, I hardly think hitting level 20 on a skill is even close to beating the game. It's a fairly simple MMO and does have some decent replayability. I still love sailing ships and broadsiding the enemies even capped at sailing. I just wish they made sailing more of a integral part of the game, not just (Sink 5 Navy ships). Maybe sailing races, or timed quests. Maybe have the ability to get NPC crew, or special cannons from quests temporally. |
