GM message at log in

Time zones, real life, people leaving for weeks coming back. These are a few reasons why it is dificult to communicate to members as a GM. Disney has the DX channel, but I don't know too many that check it on a regular basis, if at all. I'd like to have a GM message function that allows us to leave a short communication to our members for when they log in.

Add it to the Guild options menu. Click on GM Message and enter a short message about guild activities/status, or whatever.

Example:

Joe the Pirate logs in. When his loading screen is finished and he is dropped on an island, the text message automatically comes up (similar to "Jolly Roger's curse blah blah blah").

From GM: I must attend to real life issues for the next week. Co-GM (insert pirate name) will be the point of contact for any issues.

It can also be used to coordinate guild functions such as lv40 parties, Hide and Seek, etc.

Rackat,

We at Dueces Wild do that right here on POF on the Dueces Wild sub-forum, and on our private guild site. No need for popups on login.

Plus, I have come to realize that most people ignore the green windows that popup when they log in. It's suprising how many times I've seen people ask, "What's the special thing going on today?" (Mother's Day and Father's Day events.)
Or how about " How do I get double rep?" KILL SOMETHING!
and my persoanl favorite of late, "Why is the sky funny colors?" DUH, did you read the little box about the Meurtos Moon? Obviously not!

Basil just because Dueces Wild uses POF and your own private guild site, doesn't mean all the guilds use them. And, not to mention sometimes the sites go down, or the only thing you are able to use IS the game itself. I unlike most apprently, do PAY ATTENTION to the pop ups.

I think its a great idea Rackat, as are all of your ideas.

Good idea i think it may be necissary since we dont yet have a PM system in game.

Good point Basil maybe make it one of those box pop ups that come in the middle of the screen with the message. Much more noticeable and unless you are blind you should see it.

I hear ya Basil. The difficulty I have is that I would catch the Ban for giving out a guild site address, and I don't have a sub-forum on POF (though hope to recruit enough to get one soon). So, my only real way to communicate with my guild is in game. Thus, I cannot communicate with them unless we are on at the same time. This type of feature would really help me as I grow my guild and when it gets bigger.

The posting of guild sites is allowed at POF. As long as the site is safe and secure and is made for the guild. PM an Admin for exact details.

Aye Sven, no matter how big a guild is, there are those that don't have the ability to access/create a website for them

Thank you, Chris. I will post a link when I get everything set up (with approval of course). But that still doesn't address the problem of communicating to those that pop on and off when I am not around to tell them to look on POF for the link to the site. Even if it is a simple message to "Check POF for Parrotheads information, I cannot communicate that to them if they only log on for a few minutes while I am not logged on. I should've been more diligent in getting the members to register here, but I never expected such a down turn in members playing the game.

I understand exactly what Racat is referring to. There is no need for the popup window every time you move to a server, get disconnected or whatever. It would be better if the message comes up in the message window just like the golden-lettering color the GM's used during the Founder Feast.

Another thing is that Guild Masters should be allowed to send a message to Entire Guild or individual members. Example: If the GM of BTTB sends a message to one or all members in the guild, anyone who is not online at the time will get a popup message window with that message from the GM once they get online with a reply option. The message gets deleted once you close the popup window, ofcourse.

Good examples for this would be:
GM sends to Entire Guild: "I will be planning a guild meeting soon. I will keep you posted."
GM Sends to Entire Guild: "I am glad to announced that Chris has become an officer to our guild"
GM sends message to Ghostcannon: "I need to talk to you ASAP"

and so on..

What we also need, is more officer ranks (officer, senior officer, co-gm).

Actually a pop-up message on login would be fairly easy to do. They would have to convert the Java script code to whatever kind of chat they use for this. The only thing bad that might come from this is it comes up contioussly, even after log out..theres no way the GM can stop it.
While this sounds like an excellent idea! It would be annoying for a GM to see the same message over and over.

Commodore- I would like the same thing lol, I already put that in the suggestion box.

This looks to be a great idea

Though there is here for forums and PMs as well as other private Guild Web Sites, I know there have been several players who a) are not members of here b) parents do not let them surf the web to 'unknown' sites and a simple message in game by GMs and Officers (or designated by the GM - or maybe future Ranks ) would be another way to communicate

I would really like to see this implemented. It would be a great tool for the GM's to communicate to their guild.

I would really like to see the ability to leave offline messages for players, but the ability to spam comes in here and some one could leave you 1000000... offline messages. There needs to be a greater way for guilds to communicate within the game. I have tried to do a site for my guild, and have placed a message on here in the guilds and clans forum to try to increase communication amongst players but it hasnt really helped much. It is very hard to refer people to here, or your guilds personal site without fear of getting banned. I wish they would ease up on some of the rules a bit, and let us communicate with players, but I dont really see that happening. Offline messages (within guild only), or a within guild message board for the guildmaster to have say a 50-100 character message posted at all times would be nice. It could pop up when you log in, in blue like the green event messages do. With all the parental controls though, it is very hard to do much...
