Yeah i made the mistake of turning public on and i got like 10 people in 5 minutes on my ship and they shot at everything (and i mean everything if there was a ship that they could see they shot at it) i finally ended up sinking by a dreadnought that i couldnt outrun

The public thing can be really good and pretty bad. Personally, i like to have it on beacause i dont really care if anyone shoots at everything... i like that!
