I wasn't begging them to join, I didn't see them with any other guild members so I figured they had a small guild. I politely asked if they would like to join, and gave them a little info, and when they said no, I left. I also didn't lie to them about their guild lol. That is the thing I meant to say when I didn't like stealing. I have a couple guilds that have been doing that to me.

the main problem here is most people wants their own guild so there is thousands of small guilds and almost everyone is already in a guild i myself had to destroy my guild (i made it it didnt work out ) and join another guild (which has helped me alot and im glad i made that decision)

Wow a ongoing problem with a simple fix... game devlopers put that pretty little " Guild name " below our characters name for a reason... if you see it please don't waste your time asking, i've learned over many years of gaming loyal members will ask to join and they will stay no matter what. If you have problems with your members jumping ship then maybe your decision to recruit them was not whole hearted, with a guild it's not about how large or small they are it's how dedicated. Our guild has 61 members and they are all active might not be on the same time everyday but i see everyone of them online at some point through out the day. And for those complaining about other players "stealing " their members maybe you should do this either....

I guess I'm not understanding (a) how this is "stealing"; and (b) what the big deal is? <scratches head>

Playing Devil's Advocate for a minute:
If the guild was meeting the pirate's needs, then I doubt they could be enticed away so easily -- and nothing that was said about the guild, you, or any other member would have had any weight.

On the other hand:
The pirate might just be flaky and easily led astray -- in which case, who needs him/her in their guild?

So, if this is happening over and over again, then you might want to give some thought as to the reasons WHY.

Also, just because someone already has a guild designation under their name, does not mean they shouldn't be asked if they would like to join another guild, imo.

Before joining my current (awesome) guild, I belonged to 2 different ones that did not do much for me. Still, I thought they were better than nothing and so was reticent to drop out of them until I had another offer. Those guilds may have felt that I had been "stolen" too (although I seriously doubt they even noticed I was gone).

And had they said "yes", would you have considered it "stealing"?

My solution? Don't bother people in other guilds. That's why I appointed my guild space to a private report guild that way nothing like this would happen. All this will become is people attacking each other and *gasp* guild flame wars.

Can you imagine 100 people in one spot screaming at each other? Sorry Davy, I know I said the report guild was on you're side but I can't agree with you on this one.

If I remember correctly, if you have problems with other Guilds, you should contact the mods. Everyone has their choices to which guild they wish to join. If they left, they probably didn't have much trust in the Guild anyways and didn't deserve to be in it. This thread would most likely lead to arguments, so maybe you should contact a mod. about ppl. coming to your sub-forum and "stealing".

I steal guild members. There, I said it.

...

Frankly, the only other options these days are 1) stand by the Port Royal graveyard and wait for the new members to come fresh out of the intro movie, or 2) harass the higher-level pirates who've made a conscious decision to NOT be in a guild.

I agree wholeheartedly with Stormrunner. Happy members don't pay any attention to me when I tell them about my guild. Unhappy members seem thrilled that someone else is interested in them. So is it stealing? Yeah. Is it "liberating?" YEAH.

In fact, the last couple of times I've poached a member, they've usually brought at least one other person who also wasn't happy with their guild. At that point, I'm offering sanctuary to these pirates. *shrugs* Am I still a thief?

Basically, lying about someone isn't good, and really... it's unnecessary. Like what's already been said in this thread, if someone's going to stay, they'll be loyal no matter what. But once they feel like what they expect for their loyalty is gone? You'd better believe I (and anyone/everyone else who builds their guild this way) starts getting whispers.

I have had only one member leave my guild for another guild right when it started.. what I don't get is why people leave a guild that has helped them since they started to join a new guild who was just because of the guild leaders level being 20.. lol. Which is funny because that is the reason the member of mine gave me for leaving.. because the other leader was 2 levels higher than me hah! nice..

I dont know if any of you have played The Sims Online (TSO).. but this happens in a lot of games. In TSO... they have mafias. They are groups/clans/families that try to be the biggest and the best. They griefed ppl and tried to steal others from their groups. In that game you used to be able to enemy tag ppl.. and they got off on that.
Although not the same.. I see some guilds being somwhat that way. They want to be the biggest and will do whatever it takes to make them that way. Is it stealing... I dont know or care. Its just what it is.
Im in a guild that is almost dead. The guildmaster stopped playing when they took down the Black Pearl.. along with some others in the guild. I will see them log in sometimes (probably to see if the Black Pearl is enabled) and then they log back off again right away. I do miss the ability to whisper to a guild member for advice or help... but basically I just play with a few friends or on my own.
These guild wars are silly... really, imho.

If someone isn't happy in a guild then they can leave. I left Sea Furys guild because it was overcrowded and too many kids on there begging for help and not even being appreciative of it. I was then asked by Caribbean Menace to join them and found out that it wasn't crowded and the guild consisted of all adults so I joined them, but I wouldn't consider that stealing......

No no that is not stealing. If you bribe someone to join, that is stealing, unless they ask for the bribe. I had one person who said I'll join if you make me an officer - they had a very small guild of their own. Ran him through a test, he passed, and he joined.

I agree, Remi. I always ask people if they are happy with their guild BEFORE I even mention mine. If their answer is something like no, sorta, I guess, not really, etc., I'll say how about test running or even joining mine?. It is not 'stealing', it rather is getting someone out of something they didn't like.
