My turn to weigh anchor....
Well, my recent foray into converting a pencil & paper RPG to a PotCO theme has forced me to realize what I would probably have realized much earlier if I had still had the opportunity to be able to play p&p games when I first found MMOGs...namely that, other than the thematic similarities of the game worlds and a numerical representation of character advancement there is really no connection between MMOGs and p&p RPGs. That realization brought me to terms with the fact that, unless an MMO can provide a place for me to conduct p&p RPGs, I'm no longer interested in mindless grinding just to enjoy the thematic environment of the game world.
So, I must accept that if I am to use one of these MMOs to host p&p RPGs, then I'm going to have to go back to a game where my character is already highly established, with several fansites where the Reply counts of a thread more closely match the View counts, and where the devs aren't quite as scared about people communicating about non-game topics.
To the 30-odd people that post here, on a regular basis, it has been fun discussing (and debating), with you all, the nature of the game and/or MMOGs.
So, I suppose with that all said, Steely James Rooke comes to an end; and, (most likely) the one-eyed, half-orc, Druid-General Mrag Groz will be reborn as an RPG Game Master in another game environment.
Best Wishes & Bon Voyage,
Steely Jim
