OK so “Sweep” isn’t a skill most people put a lot of points into. The reason is obvious, it’s got a long recharge time. But think about this skill again for a minute. It’s the only cutlass skill that allows you to engage multiple enemies. Not only that but it doesn’t appear to apportion a percentage of damage to each, instead every enemy in reach of your blade gets the full brunt of your attack.
So I think Sweep deserves more respect. Because it’s very useful in those confused meelee’s: when you board a ship, take on a fort full of soldiers or fight undead pirates, brigands etc. that tend to recruit the other undead around them to gang up on you.
- I’ve seen group battles where the enemy and our crew were fairly evenly matched, turn in our favor when a couple of my crewmates (and me) performed sweeps in the middle of a crowd of enemy. You might strike 3 – 6 enemy with this and bring each of their numbers down significantly, think of how many hit points your dealing with that one blow times 6.
- Sometimes undead group together in battle usually with a lot of very low level undead supporting one or two high level undead. A sweep with a couple of points in it immediately kills the low level undead, that otherwise would have flailed away at you unopposed while you concentrated on the high ranking guy.
