I haven't done an SvS blockade, but have done a few blockades with the Thieves and for the most part, it will work. You have what, 5-8 ships firing simultaneously at an enemy? The guys with the bigger guns win. The only downside about blockades is the fact that no matter where you are in the Carribean, there's another way around the blockade.

Also, Light sloops privateers are some of the most annoying sailors out there to me. However, when you ram them with your big War Frigate, you'll be laughing as they hang onto the planks left over.
