disney svs stupidity

Remember when privateer came out and Disney recommended lining up ship and using there combined broadsides to sink enemy ships. has that really ever been used and could it possibly have worked.

The Skirata Clan 09-06-2010 05:41 AM

It works. I did my Privateering quest using nothing but broadsides. And I did them on 2 different pirates. Its hard but it works.

7seconds 09-06-2010 12:12 PM

I woulndt say its stupid or anything its just helpful hints and what not. Broadsides always work and the more the better. kind of a harsh thread title if you ask me.

Tiberius Fireskull 09-06-2010 05:17 PM

Well there are other hints that most people think are stupid. Dont feed the alligators, Dont pet the scorpions! Most people think they are stupid, but I know first hand that it was right to give them.... those gators can bite hard..... :laughks2:

Anyway, most of the hints are for new players anyway. For a new player, these hints can be pretty handy, especially if they are still getting used to the game.

Looking for a dominating defensive position? Work with other Privateers flying the same flag to form a Line of Battle. This is a formation in which ships form a line from end to end and shower the opposing side with volleys of broadsides. It's an excellent way to defend your home port - and ensure you are not raining iron down on your own men.

That works. It has been done. Its a blockade.

Countainer7b 09-07-2010 01:28 PM

but only when the enamy attacks from a favorable angle.

Yes it was used when SVS first came out and it was really cool. We would sail out to the middle area between he islands and line up nose to stern and when a ship from the opposing team came out they would have to try to bust through it. This was also a real world strategy that was used back then to fight sea battles. In POTC it only works well if you have a large number of ships on your side cause most ships can force through it but a very large amount of gunfire can be brought to bare on an enemy very quickly and when the formation breaks up it lets players team up because of the starting position. One advantage is that generally no one ship in the formation takes on heavy gunfire so a captain can man his cannons and be away from wheel to get stronger hits against the enemy. When the formation begins to break up you just jump on your wheel and steer your ship. Usually the formation breaks in groups so everything was more of a united effort and you rarely came into the situation of running after the enemy and finding yourself alone and surrounded. I have not seen this strategy used since its first release. I think part of it is also that way back in the earlier days of the game it seemed as though going at it on the seas was a bit rougher and communication was not as good so it seemed as though people were more into group fighting in general and watching out more for strangers in distress. For some reason there is not as much sea travel as I remember there being and less instances of getting overwhelmed. On a good note though the game is more playable with lots of people on it as it does not get jammed up as it use to with poor performance because of large crowds forming in pockets on the battle grounds.

It is kind of a harsh thread name..... besdies it works.. I'e seen it done and I've done it before, works favorably against bigs hips, not so well against those light sloops that own with fury. @_@

people that use light sloops ruin pvp

If its a low level trying to privateer, I dont mind. When its a high level player blasting people with furies from it, it annoys me. Its cowardly, uses almost no skill, and makes you almost impossible to hit. Usually when people start doing that I just leave.

The Skirata Clan 09-11-2010 06:06 AM

I actually like the light sloop challenge. I just ram them down.

Another great defensive tactic is to get PNC to line up a VS barricade between the SVS islands for you.

ROFL :laughks2:

Using combined broadsides is actually very powerful. I remember one day when a few of my mates and I split up in to seperate teams for a small game of SvS, my side launched about 4-5 War Ships, and swarmed the enemy ship. Didn't stand a chance ;D

Although, personally, I like just launching up a VS War Sloop (or War Frigate, depending on the overall size of our crew,) filling up the cannons with our best gunners, and desolating anything that comes across our path. But an occasional armada never hurt anybody :pirate91:

And I have to admit, light sloops annoy the hell outta me. But, like TSC, Ramming Speed works wonders on the buggers.
