I see you updated the rules, I think it's like 3% better now. Although, you , Swash, are missing a key item in this thread that will (or should at least) ,make people even have the slightest thought of considering joining.
That key item is something all the big POF guilds have included in their guild threads, I won't tell you what it is, try to figure it out..... To me...some people might need to spend some time being a member of another guild--a good guild, study the guildmaster's actions, learn from them, and if you think you're ready to be a GM, then leave and start on your own. This is just my opinion but I believe that this option would be better for you Swash, in order to create an even more successful guild in the future. But do as you please, you'll discover the REAL reason people won't join sooner or later.... |

(may not be what AdmiralSavvy had in mind, but this is what I see right away)
Swash, if I were to join your guild. Whats in it for me? Other than common sense rules, all I see are rules defined to protect you as the GM. What perhaps you need to understand, is that people wont join a guild for just these two reasons: The guilds name is "French Assassins" The guilds GM is "Swashbuckler" Neither of these are impressive facts, nor do they make me want to join your guild. |

Zeppers you are on the right track....

Yes, selflessness is a very important key to a successful guild, but that wasn't what I was trying to point out.
What I was trying to point out was that you need to give reasons why people would want to join: Ex. benefits such as helpful guild mates and a helpful GM. Activities like Kingshead raids, you know, stuff that people might be looking for in thier guild hunt. Think like the Guild Hunter.

Its also about what you have to offer. Why should ANYONE join your guild? "Because Swashbuckler thinks it'd be cool" is not a valid reason, nor does it translate to anyone else in that fashion. Like AdmiralSavvy said, "Think like a guild hunter". You compared to the Wenchs, Ok.. Lets do both at the same time... The War Wenchs have a well established guild, not a new one just starting out. They also have a unique approach that immediately draws interest (thier Wenchs only gimmick). Additionally they have several reputable members (not going to talk about what kind of reputations now!) that draw interest to thier group, which is probably thier biggest recruiting tool alone. Why would I join? Sounds like the cool place for the pirate lass's to be. How do I know this? Word of mouth, a luxury well established clans have. Some pretty cool people in it, not to mention already has several people in it... worth consideration. French Assassins, new guild, as far as I can tell there are 2 guys in it and one of them left already, the GM writes rules concerning and surrounding how he is to be treated but appears to show no concern for the rest of the group. Wow, secret hiding places (this attacts noobs, but will NEVER attact an experienced pirate). Why would I join? Good question, the GM hasnt given any reasons, and since they are new, I have no reputation to go on. Put this guild as the one i'll try if noone else will have me list. Getting people to try the guild is the main goal. If its a new guild, you have to offer reasons to want to join. If you run it right, and it fits, they'll stay. |

Swash, don't try to compare yourself too much to the Wenchs--to the point of copying their presentation. It will just show everyone that the GM is a wannabe leader instead of an ACTUAL Guildmaster. An actual Guildmaster being someone who keeps guild order but doesn't create a guild dictatorship, also, someone who realizes that people will want your help at times, and the GM actually being decent enough to help. Plus, presenting your guild in a welcoming and eye-catching way---- instead of just going straight to consenquences and requirements without benefits, guild activities, etc. explaining to people that you are looking to be a GUILDMASTER, not a BOSS, those are 2 different things.
You said, "I've updated the rules" although I don't see very much improvemt. They still have the same self-centered tone. When people look at this, they may think "What kind of rules are these? This guy really needs to stop thinking about only his self-gratification if he expects other people to join. If I imagine myself a lvl 20 in your guild, this is how it will play out: Me: Hey Swash, I need help getting grenades, can you help please? You: No, I'm busy lvling up and I don't wanna be bothered with some lvl 20 at the moment, get a friend or do it yourself!!!! Me: You know what? There are a lot better guilds out there who are actually helpful! I should just join a better guild since you're too "busy" to do your job. You: Fine, leave! I don't care!! You see Swash, put this situation into another perspective and you might see what the problem is. The bottom line is that people want to be in a guild where the Guildmaster actually does his or her job. From the beginning I've read this thread I've always believed that You are just not ready to be a Guildmaster. Last edited by AdmiralSavvy; 07-29-2008 at 01:45 AM.. |

*sigh* You just don't get it. Running a guild has nothing to do with gold.... it's about bringing a group of people together to work on quests together, lvl up and most importantly, have fun in the game. And also, running a guild can't be ALL help and nothing else, you can actually have fun. By establishing different guild activites such as War Fleets, land raids, all that. Or just by having a friendly guild chat.
It's a rather naive statement when you consider the main focus of a guild being gold. |

Where did you get that idea from?? A GM can for sure establish a guild activity, via DxD or a guild site.
Help is something we have to offer but it's not ALL we have to offer. Look at my signature, I'm Guildmaster and I have a signature about a Guild war fleet, meaning and proving that raids/war fleets can also be known by the GM. |

I was just using my signature as an example to my statement.
And how about making a guild site? Guildlaunch is a good site to try for that. |
