Okays i have had this issue for mweeks and im getting worried! My Norton Anti-Virus has detected several Trojan Horses named Bloodhound.exploit.196 or something like that and has quarentined them because it cant get rid of it!
Does ANYONE know how to get rid of it? If it is a threat? What it does? and how i could have gotten it? |

Here is a link nortons removal tips.
Looks like a mild virus, so you should be ok if you follow the steps. http://www.symantec.com/security_res...357-99&tabid=3 |

I would recommend you and everyone to run a 'virus definition' update and a scan everyday single day (schedule one at a certain time). I had that issue one time and started to be proactive since then.
Good luck! |

Anyone needing a FREE and effective anti-virus pragam--I suggest AVG from www.grisoft.com. I use it in addition to my McAffee.

Virus software by definition runs in the background of your PC and is the SOURCE of your slow down problems.
I have used Zero virus software in last ten years and have zero problems with virus as I take very simple steps to protect against getting viruses. Internet Explorer is only used when there is no other options. Don't use it it represent 60% of all problems with outlook and outlook express being the other 39% Do not open any mail on your PC (ZERO) nada use Yahoo for all your E-mail and look at it online and never ever download into your PC all the malicious **** in e-mails can never hurt you if you open it online and never download to your PC. As for a web browser use Mozilla. all of the cool things about recent versions of explorer were stolen from Mozilla so you only gain advantages from Mozilla. Firefox almost all problems that crash PC come from E-mail and browser so by using mozilla you cut down virus problems nearly to ZERO. A brand new PC top of the line running Norton anti virus will get the snot kicked out of it in performance by a 5 year old run of the mill PC that is not running Norton. In order to protect your PC you gotta think and act like a hacker. And most of all the windows software for rolling back the image does not work on viruses as all the hackers for years have learned to work around the windows image software. Use a USB bookshelf hard drive like western digital or Maxtor to make safe copies completely independent of windows |

I did not quote it, but your comment about opening stuff in yahoo, etc (ie webmail) is not at all foolproof. A virus script thusly attached, will still attack/damage your pc without it being physically on your machine, as it loads directly from the webmail into system memory when opened. I agree, that systems can be run, and kept perfectly clean without any antivirus measures, but ONLY if all the right steps are taken, and perhaps you've heard of the age old saying "To err is human". Everyone disses Nortons, i've used it for years, never once had an issue tied to it, or any system performance issues with any games. I only use the antivirus product however, I do abore all "internet security suites" as they are usually just a bundle of applications that result in creating more of a nuisance than anything. Having not renewed my subscription to Nortons this last time I removed it from all my machines, and there is no change in performance, I am led to believe it had no effect on the performance of my system. As for using Mozilla/Firefox, keep any required external support you have for your machine in mind. Most support agents are not prepared for clients using 3rd party browsers, as it opens a whole new world for support with different interface, commands, steps etc. Our company has a policy (and we are not unique in this regard, many business application companies do this), that if you use anything other than MSIE, your basically on your own when it comes to dealing with any browser related issues. Running without antivirus software is best left to those who are computer literate however I and problems when I set up a PC for my 15 year old niece years ago and I installed a full barrage of Norton and her BAD teenager habits crashed the PC in less then 2 days.
I reinstalled the system and once again taught her the correct methods and it crashed in 3 days. Third time I reinstalled the system and removed all shortcuts and links for e-mail software and internet explorer forcing the teenager to use my methods instead of hers. I also removed Norton. Her system ran 10 times as fast and lasted 2 years without problems until one of her GEEK friends from school restored her links for internet explorer. the system crashed that very same day. She wanted her AOL instant messenger back so her friends could talk with out sending e-mails. Instead of restoring her PC I held off for 2 months in fixing it...... Then I reinstalled it as before and stressed in no uncertain terms that MY methods worked and her PC lasted 2 years because she had no choice and the very day she tried hers it crashed. She now does not let friends touch her PC for any reason and it has been 3 years since the last time I worked on it. she is getting a new lap top for Christmas and the first thing after verifying that it works is to have the hard drive wiped out and all the software removed and start from fresh. |

This is your problem with Nortons more than likely.
Thier flagship Antivirus product in itself is not problematic. Nortons security suites are horrendous however. We are constantly removing these security suites from our clients machines and putting on the antivirus product solving a number of issues on internal business networks. Thier corporate edition is also an excellent product for large offices. However they should not be confused with Nortons Antivirus. Nortons Antivirus is just one piece of these security suites they are selling. They sell these security suites using the publics fears to push them on the market. Norton's antivirus is an excellent product, doesnt slow my system down at all, used it for years, know it well. I've tried others and although all seem to vary slightly in annoying issues, havent found any one that is better than the other. I just think Nortons gets a bad wrap because its one of the biggest most widely spread players. Dont use Norton's if you dont like them, thats fine, but use SOMETHING! So I stick with a well known name, one i've known for years even before Symantec bought "Peter Nortons" franchise of computer utilities. No matter what antivirus one selects, I highly recommend having one in place. Unless you want to just limit your access and abilities such as Arioch indicated. The issue there however doesnt even sound like it had anything to do with the preventive measures taken, but with the end-users lack of discipline in using their system. Please everyone USE ANTIVIRUS. Infected systems are just used to spread the techno-disease to more systems, the more it spreads, the harder they are to avoid. |

This is my experience too. Just Norton Antivirus by itself is pretty rock-solid.
