Highsea "Pillager Plunder Parties" (Member suggestion thread)

Well, we're almost ready to start this event, but first we need to get everything up and running for it. When we're ready to start the event I will close and archive this thread, and start a new one focusing on the event itself. For now though here are the base plans we started out with. Feel free to add new ideas for how they would work, times, etc.*

----------------------

*Anything marked with a :TrainersBullet: will not be changed via suggestions.

1st Suggestion Needed
Quote:

Days: Friday or Saturday
Times:
Friday: 6:30 EDT --- 5:30 CDT --- 4:30 MDT --- 3:30 PDT --- 11:30 GMT
Saturday: 4:30 EDT --- 3:30 CDT --- 2:30 MDT --- 1:30 PDT --- 9:30 GMT

I know the Friday times are a bit late for any future friends across the Atlantic, which is why I proposed the Saturday schedule, too.
Need to know whether Friday or Saturday is a better day, and if the times are okay. (If not, please post times that are okay for you.)

Other Info Decided
  • Meet at a decided location prior to the event starting.
  • Officer will lead each crew.
  • :TrainersBullet: At least one officer per ship.
  • Weekly or Bi-Weekly event.

Feel free to submit your ideas until Wednesday, June 24, 2009, when we'll take all suggestions. We'll work on getting the suggestions that we can sorted out to work with the base plan if at all possible, and the event will be ready to go by the end of next week!

party

Once every other weekend for one night or one day, we can alternate.
Times good and Friday night is good but have to see about Sat. Might have family party that day. I will follow up and get back to you on that day.
A quiet server that is usually not busy Friday nights so lets see how this Friday is and what servers are not busy.
I suggest Padres beach in front of the Bar. We can all ammo up and repair ships there. For those who can't TP to Padres I'll be sure to get there well in advance so you can TP to me. I can also captain a ship, I have a full set.

Just wanted to make a note on this, I didn't think about it before but maybe it would be best to just randomly pick a quiet server each week? The event will have a sticky dedicated to it, so changing it weekly would be no issue.

Servers

For current HP members that might be OK but for potential members that may not be on our guild or buddy lists, advanced notice would be more courteous so perhaps a day in advance but not same day and I would not advise just prior to notice.

My only confusion with this is that you're discussing "potential members". I can understand your concern, but I don't see what member that aren't members yet would cause an issue, since if they're not on our guild or buddy lists they probably do not even know we have a plunder event. Correct me if I'm reading your post wrong, but that is how I am understanding it.

Heres a suggestion, I think it would be cool to have a Plunder Party Weekly so the HSP have something to look forward to every week. Friday or Saturday would work out but not in the middle of the day. (By the middle of the day I mean middle of the day EST Time). But thats just something that would work out for me.

CaptainGreenGene 06-18-2009 01:42 AM

Hmm

I was just thinking that plunder parties are good times to recrute from POF and play with some potentials. We can just make it guild only in which case just set a time and the rest we can decide on the spot.

I was under the impression these would work solely as guild events. We do have recruiting events we do from time to time which are in sense similar to this, only with a planned server, etc.

I think Plunder Parties should be a weekly event that way we can expect something at least once a week. Either friday or saturday would work for me. As long as it's near the end of the week, it should work for me.

I'm still new to the guild so during plunder parties will the captain be using the port side and starboard side cannons? I'm sure every member would like to get a shot at each ship but we can't exactly do that if the captain can sink a ship in two or so shots.
Maybe we should add a limit to how many shots the captain can fire on each ship. Just trying to throw out some suggestions. I don't want to be on a ship if the captain can sink a ship in a few shots.(I know I can sink ships easily with my mastered sailing) I just don't want to see anyone left out. What good is a pirate if he's/she's just sitting there swabbing the deck?

Days: Friday or Saturday

Times:
Friday: 6:30 EDT --- 5:30 CDT --- 4:30 MDT --- 3:30 PDT --- 11:30 GMT
Saturday: 4:30 EDT --- 3:30 CDT --- 2:30 MDT --- 1:30 PDT --- 9:30 GMT

The Friday time I should be able to make. The Saturday time is to early for me, sorry! Evenings are better for me. :pirate30:

Just showing up to one would be fine. Reason I had originally thought of both times, and I guess it would be good to explain this, is for when the guild grows larger. As we grow there are good chances that we will have some UK buddies playing with us, and I would say that 11:30 may be a little late for them to come. Best thing I could think to do is have more than one time set for when/if we have any UK members, and people could show up to either or both. For now though since it seems to be unanimous, I think we'll go with Friday as our main time, and if we grow and need it I'll re-add the earlier saturday plunder event.

I had never really thought about this happening, so I think we'll go with your suggestion. The best thing I can think to do is go for something of this sort...
  • Smaller Ships (Anything you think you can heavily damage or kill solely with 1 broadside) - No Broadsides. Shouldn't be a problem, as you should still get rep for using commands such as "Open Fire!" and "Take Cover!", as well as just from the gunners taking the ship down with the cannons.
  • Larger Ships - 1 Broadside w/o "Open Fire". Again, you should still get good rep for calling out the Ship orders to the rest of the crew as well as from the gunners.

CaptainGreenGene 06-18-2009 04:52 PM

Captains and officers

One of the duties of a captain and a guild officer is to see to the needs of his crew/guild. When I have a crew on board I don't use broadsides unless I'm under attack. I tell the high lvl cannoniers to only take out sails with lightning/fury and then everyone must use round shot on the hull. That maxes out reps for everyone on the ship including the captain. I never use open fire since it increases the ammo strength and has the potential to decrease overall reps. I just park my ship far enough away to stay safe and let the crew do the rest. Last night with a crew of 2 and double reps I ran up 33,490 reps in the 3 hours of 2X reps just sailing.
As far as what side of the ship you should be on, I suggest we break into crews of 5 so we don't have that particular problem. Larger crews are just too cumbersome and one side will always get short changed.
