POTCO Dieing?
I have notice alot lately, that the servers are getting quieter and the game is not getting any better, every time they do there maintence they don't release it in there release notes saying that disney is starting to get "lazy".
Another fact is that if you seriously have "nothing" better to do or can't find a better game to move on to and you don't mind doing the same routine over and over again, then I guess pirates online is a good game for you, if you switch between solitare and freecell. The game seems like there nothing new, the new weapons update is suppose to be out by April so they say. Quoted from disney's official site: Arm Yourself With Brand-New Weapons! March 24 2008 New weapons are coming soon to Pirates Online, bringing with them more damage, faster reload rates, special effects, and more! You can look forward to new voodoo dolls, daggers, voodoo staffs, and pistols. These new weapons will be available later this month on the Test server, and will be hitting the live game in April. NoW! you can see the obviously stated "soon" and I remember reading that when it said that it would hit our public servers sometime in April, it's obvious something is not goin right at Disney's Developement studio, I can say though, that since this game is disney and it's was "awarded" best online game, I would like to see what big game reviewers like Gamespy,IGN,G4, all have to say about this game, "It's all fun in the beginning until about you hit level 40 and got alll your quest done and maxed out all your weapons, and there's nothing to do and your stuck in a World of Warcraft situation back in Beta days waiting for the (next big update) to be released, wait......no........scratch that, World of Warcraft had plenty of things to do while you waited around for the next big update". I personally can't compare the two games because there two diffrent company's with two diffrent develope teams with two diffrent attitudes on the takes of the way the develope games, disney had potiental with this game, it could have been another big hit like World of Warcraft with over 9million active accounts worldwide, but it seems to be that disney has that stick so far up there ___ and with the high pride of how they are, I guess there not looking for fame or fortune. I personally loved the game I played it for hours on end, and had my fun and bad day's plundering, but i think it's time to hang up the cutless and let it go. save my $10 doller monthly sub and spend it on a case of Redbull or something, the game seems like it hit it's end, untill there's another big update release. |
Considering that this game is only a few months old (live rather than beta) and Warcraft has been around for about 3 years I think you are being a little unfair.
I believe it was 2 years before Blizzard bought out there first proper upgrade to the game (Burning Crusades). Disney have so far given us some (albeit small) upgrades already. We can now personalise our avatars much more than we could when the games first started. Numerous bugs have been fixed (more still to fix, but some have been done). We have been promised new weapons on the live server in April. In my country it is still April and still about 2 weeks yet to go. Still time for the new weapons to appear. This is a new game and being Disney, is aimed more to the younger players. I have done my Black Pearl Quest, but now spend my time helping out the lower levels in the guild to catch up and then through the final battle. I have not been mad intent on maxing out on my weapons, but I am using more of my lower level weapons when helping my guild members. I can only say to give it a chance. We are due an upgrade in summer. I look forward to that and hope it is early summer rather than late. Any longer and Disney will lose people. If you are looking for a mature game with lots to do, go try World of Warcraft. If you wanna be a pirate. Let POTCO mature and then come back. |

I could go on and on with the complaints but itd be pointless to sit here for 2 hours or so. |
Beautiful letdown - can I ask a question? If you have so many issues with Disney games, why do you sign up for them? If they are as bad as you say, why keep playing them? there must be other games out there that would live up to your expectations?

I agree, If you don't like it, well, than don't play. Simple.
This game , like all Disney games, is intended for the casual gamer. I agree that the grind is sometimes annoying, but I like that if I only have a half hour here and there to play, I still can feel like I accomplished something. Like just now, I had a whopping fifteen minutes to play, and managed to complete a quest on one of my baby pirates. Works for me. |
Let's slow down for a second
Quote:
Letdown is apparently a previous Disney customer so he has a different viewpoint. Judging from what I am seeing in game there are still a lot of new people coming into the game- some free and some paying. If all I saw were Gray tags I would think that there's a problem. So new people are coming in. That being said I'm not seeing a huge amount of high level players. Whether they're hiding in PvP (which I don't care for) or not playing at the times I am on or stopped playing, I can't say. It's probably a mix of all three. I went pretty quickly through the ranks and was a bit disappointed with the boss battle. Then I started leveling weapons and I run hot and cold on that too. But then I got more involved with some guilds and working more of the social aspect of the game. It is fun to help a low level character once in a while or help a guildmate on a quest or level their weapons. There are some new quests coming (the weapons) which if taken a little more slowly should hold most people over until the big release happens this summer (which technically ends Sept 21). Also if the double rep weekend worked out well numbers wise, they might offer that again too. I just hope the hours are more accommodating the next time. There are certainly things that can be done better, but it's not all bad. If you are unhappy, I would suggest suspending your paid account and log on as a free member from time to time to keep up with what's going on. If after the summer you're still not happy you can quit. But to bail out now seems a bit early. I plan on at least giving it a year before giving up on it. And if all you want to do is complain and troll the boards, I would ask that you don't. (The Mods might have a different take on that last one) My $0.02, your mileage may vary. |
Quote:
I figure others are doing the same. Every time you see a lower level pirate with a founders coin over their heads, you can rest assured it's someone who has another, high level, pirate out there. So, the higher level pirates are out there, they're just "starting over". Back to topic.... :) |
Quote:
When WOW was released, it had hundreds and hundreds of quests. Multiple classes. Tons of equipment. A huge playing area. This game was released with only a handful of quests and 1 class. You cannot even come close to comparing the 2 games. Basically, the way the game is now, it will have a very high turnover rate of players. I mean, really. You play the game for 2 to 4 months, get 1 of each warship, master a couple weapons, sailing, and cannon, finish the black pearl quest and then you get bored and leave. Some other kid comes in to take your place. This game simply does not have enough content to keep players. You can master a pirate in a very short time compared to other MMO's, and once you do there is very little point in creating another pirate as it's just a slightly tweaked version of your first pirate. I figure I have about another month or two and it will be time for me to move on. |
it aint dieing it just all the noobs that came from the tv ads have now maxed their basic accounts and left and alot of the members that have played since opening have maxed and left also

I can discribe POTCO as "having a late growth spurt."

simple answer for this.... don't make promises that can't be kept, pirates has such a future if disney get's the ball rolling. if not it will die out very soon like it or not, and as for the casual gamer remark this game was designed for childern but adults enjoy playing as well and i relaly think disney should relize this and update to make everyone happy. |
I think that the game is geared more towards the casual gamer. The ones who play when they have a little time. Not so much for the gamer who sits down for 5 hours a night. One of their loading screen tips is to quit and go outside after 2 hours. I'm a casual adult player who has been on Pirates for about 2 months. I still find the game fun and always have something to do because I don't play the game to death. I only have 1 pirate (Lvl15) and am only 1% done with the Black Pearl Quest....though admittedly not really trying on that. I think a lot of people are in the same boat (maybe aside from the lack of any BP completion).
Disney is well aware of the fact that many adults play this game....just as they know many adults go to Disney World. I'm sure they're trying and I'm sure a lot of the devs are saddened to see their hard work malfunctioning and by not getting updates out on time. You people act like Blizzard has never lied to you about dates *cough* StarCraftII *cough* |
Quote:
Yea but! eglease they have the curtisy of sayin "the date change due to blah" and when they make an update like maintence or such they always update there release notes as any other game does or annouces, even those big korean mmorpg's when they make an update they annouce what they fix, and what they did, POTCO works on something and doesnt even inform it's players, for reasons unknown. |
Quote:
|
the un noted maintence are alway's glitch fixes, i mean those that use them can't lie after a maintence the glitches are gone. i'd say the reason it's never posted is because they are probably just waiting to see who try's the glitch again so they can ban em..
|
POTCO has been out 6 months now, and since beta the game has just gotten worse. Sure, the glitches are fixed, but I liked the beta interface better.
|
Well, not sure who can do the entire game in two weeks - but if you can gimmie your secret for all that REP! LOL
I'll admit - I think Disney 'under-thought' the game with the orginial release. I believe they seen it as more of a casual gamer (youger crowd playing for only an hour or so daily - maybe more on weekends) - not expecting that many unlimited players would be more heavily devoted in time. Still - with real life for most of us - even the best I'lll be able to do I think is 3 to 5 months to max out one pirate. My first pirate would have been even slower if it wasn't for my 'somewhat' heavy devotion to get him to 40 (and my second - playing at a more Real Life reasonable pace will be long into summer maybe fall before he sees 40 - hey - I like my summers :) ) So, will they be able to 'back-fill' the void? Hard to say... if they do even to a certain degree I'll be around for a bit yet. If not and I find myself bored - then I guess I'll move on. |
I don't know how much people pay in other countries, but here in the UK one month of WoW costs 10 uk pounds. Thats about 20 us dollars. I'm quite happy paying my 5 uk pounds a month, for something that has potential.
I am constantly getting badgered about joinging WoW by my workmates, but it just sounds too darned complicated. I just wanna be a pirate. |
Check the test server release notes a huge update came out today including tons of quests for tats and jewlery and of course new weapons

ok again it comes down to die-hard players and people with jobs and school and other stuff
i got to school 8 hours a day 5 days a week also i play another game called VMK (but sadly i wont have to worry much about that game anymore its losing :() die-hards play the game all the time and therefore can master a pirate in 1 month easily however me 6 months later and i have not mastered my pirate so what is my point? my point is for the workers schoolers and other stuffers dont really want thpusands of quests higher levels ect. but die-hards that beat the game in a month want that so they can countiune playing i for one think the game a great as it is as long as they continue to release updates and new things |
Test server release notes
Release Notes - April 18 2008 Added level 4 weapon upgrades for Sword, Pistol, Dagger, Voodoo Doll, and Voodoo Staff. You will receive new weapon upgrades through new quest lines. *Update: these are currently turned off as we modify the way you will obtain these quests.* Can now purchase ammo pouches. These pouches allows you to carry more ammo (i.e. bullets, cannonballs, daggers, grenades) than the base amount. Made it easier to find a crew using your crew panel. To open your crew panel, hit the F key, and then press the "Crew" button. You can now: Create a crew: Crew Options -> Start A Crew Search for crewmates (once you’ve started a crew): Crew Options -> Recruit Crewmates. There are also advanced options for more discerning captains. Join someone else's crew: Crew Options -> Search For A Crew Let others near you know that you are looking for a crew: Crew Options -> Looking For Crew Added better bonuses for crewing. The notoriety bonus is 20% for a crew of 2, and it ramps up to max bonus of 100% for an 8 person crew. Note: you currently receive the bonus no matter where your crewmates are. We are likely going to change this so the bonus only applies to crewmates in your nearby zone. We'd love to hear your feedback on this! Improved whisper functionality. Chat panel remains in whisper mode as long as player doesn't click X or try to reply to an absent avatar By pressing Alt-Enter, you can automatically whisper to the player that most recently whispered to you Chat panel provides more feedback when sending a whisper to someone who went away Modified the way NPC's target their attackers: they used to attack the person that first attacked them, but now will switch between attacking the person doing the most damage and others nearby that are doing damage. We will likely modify this after doing some more play testing. Again, we'd love to hear your feedback on this! Removed groggy penalty until you reach level 10 in order to make the early player experience a bit smoother Shortened the length of the groggy penalty Shortened recharge time for tonics Moved tonics to the first tab in the gypsy cart to make them easier to find Added "Welcome Worlds" for players coming out of Rambleshack. These worlds are separate instances and only contain Port Royal. Once a player gets on a ship for the first time, he/she will be placed in one of the main servers. Added /event command so you can see what events are in progress and how much time is remaining. Type /event into your chat panel to activate this feature. Fixed a bug that was allowing strangers on your ship. Only friends and crewmates of the ship's captain should now be able to board. Added new animations and a panel describing your reward when unlocking a new weapon. Added new quests to receive jewelry and tattoos that you can not buy in shops: "Spy Trouble" Receive from Perla Alodia, Jeweler on Padres Del Fuego "Black Market" Receive from Mercedes Corazon, Tattoo Artist on Padres Del Fuego "Eliminating The Competition" Receive from Dajin Ming, Jeweler on Tortuga "Lala's Brother" Receive from Lala Lovel, Tattoo Artist on Tortuga "Smitty's Sickness" Receive from Jeweler Smitty, Jeweler on Port Royal "Family Valuables" Receive from Solomon O'Dougal, Tattoo Artist on Port Royal "Precious Treasures" Receive from Perla Alodia, Jeweler on Padres Del Fuego "Picking Up The Slack" Receive from Dajin Ming, Jeweler on Tortuga "Smitty's Debt" Receive from Jeweler Smitty, Jeweler on Port Royal "Special Ink" Receive from Solomon O'Dougal, Tattoo Artist on Port Royal "Lala's Neighbors" Receive from Lala Lovel, Tattoo Artist on Tortuga "Helping Mercedes Corazon" Receive from Mercedes Corazon, Tattoo Artist on Padres Del Fuego |
Some interesting things here. I have a test account that is nowhere near as high as I would like it (level 13). I may try and get on to the test server this weekend and try it out.
|
I'm not a die hard player...I go to school everyday and hopefully soon will be getting a job, but can still max out the game in no time. Matthew Stormhazzard, was the one i mentioned maxed out the game in a few weeks, I know him personally and he has a job and goes to school.
|
I've seen Matthew's pirate on the Pirate Masters List :) It is impressive to do in almost 4 weeks (a bit more than a few), with school and work. I would think though he is a 'very rare' exception - he basically worked, slept, school and played POTCO without any other or few distractions (family, kids, extra activities, work projects, home improvements, friends - basically any other life :) ). Now thats ok :) and cool in my books - but all games have these 'rare' expectional players... there will be no satisfaction for those.
As for the dieing... well todays list of posted improvements and upcoming options is a good start for many gamers - and hopefully a good sign of things to come :) |

I have to say this is the worst MMO i have played and im a hardcore MMO player with maxed out characters on mostly all games I thought this would be awesome then there was a big letdown it was cartoony then the fighting was wack like the part about no shooting guards or humans thats nuts they did it all the time in the movie and as for them saying it was to keep down violence its a whole lot less violent than killing people with swords bc that is bloody and gorey where guns are not

2. if you don't like it, don't play |

Second - it is a Disney game - there was never gonna be any blood in it. Its based on a Humourous Pirate Movies based on a Dissney ride... of course it cartoonish. :D But - there are other MMO Pirate games out there - and for the 'hard-core' gamer like yourself - maybe this should be the avenue you seek (I played some games for 5 years loving every second - others only a few weeks just because they didn't meet my expectations). Good luck in whatever you decide :cards: |
Dear me, It's like the folks that complain about the "garbage on tv".....If you don't like it, change the chanel.

** before any kiddies or noobs become flustered this is just my opinion **
It's like this and i'm sure *most* will agree, those unhappy with this game shouldn't be told " if you don't like it, don't play " most of us complaining were here from the start of beta, and have saw the game develope. There is so much that *could* be done with this game to make it one of the best mmo's ever, but judging by the fact all update's are behind schedule, the game was released in a very stingy manor just trying to beat potbs ( which i'd play potbs anyday ) and to keep the kiddies happy. Disney should consider adult only server's! i mean come on we *adult's* get rowdy from time to time and there's nothing like trying to blow off steam and being censored. Now there are solutions to this but, oh wait... disney prohibit's any info such as web site's and ip for voice chat to be givin out.. hmmm, anyone else feel we are paying money to be caged?? speaking of money we choose to pay for the game service from disney but would also like to see the game grow not setting around wackin at stumps for 2 month's waiting for the most ridiculus boss battle i've every saw release. |
I don't think it will die, after the Test Server Updates and new stuff coming such as the way enemies attack now, it won't die soon. :D
|
I played from the start of beta also, and I have just come back from a 2 month break in those two months I noticed a bit had happened, and stuff had been fixed, it was actually good to see.
And now people are compliaing about not enough content to grind for 12 hours a day 7 days a week for months on end? And I'm sorry, you wont find as much content in a Disney game that is based on a movie than if you were to say compare it to a game/lore that has been around for hmmm over 10 years now on the PC market. Also, I think this game did what it tried to do quite well, and that was find a market and a nice spot for casual gamers, for the hardcore and the people that love the grind/indepth system of more; kill x then goto y goto x defeat 2 y's and then return and so on and so on, fire up some PotBS. |
How many times do we have to point out that this is a disney game, and not a hard core MMO?
Targ - You want hard core MMO go elsewhere. This was always gonna be aimed at kids and part time players. I had no illusions about that. And it has not really disappointed me. As for guns not being bloody and gory, what world do you live in? You get shot, you bleed, you get gore. |
I agree its geared toward a casual player,
me, im pretty dedicated to a point, it wasnt hard to get to 40 in under a month, i started around feb 1st, and got to 40 on the 27th. but i see some of my friends who are more laid back about playing (job, school etc) and they are of course leveling slowly, as i see them on for about an hour a day or maybe 2. so thats what i think the target audience is, the younger school age crowd and the people who can jump right in for a few hours a few days a week, keeps them busy, i have a few friends who ive seen go up a level or 2 every month. Im hoping they do add more content though to maybe cater to the ongoing nature of mmo's as i have had a few level 40 friends who i do not see anymore, maybe they quit, maybe they started over, i cant blame em as once you master everything, there really is zero incentive to continue playing that particular character. I started a second one, and took my time (started march 6, and im at 38 now with fully mastered skills, and nothing but the quest to get me to 40 if i had the patience to do some chores. so i think its maybe not dying..but stagnant for the percent that do have a more hardcore or dedicated playing style, theres simply nothing to do. Im not a great player by any means, but i have the time to put into playing, since i am pregnant, and i do not work (on leave because of my condition), so this is my time waster. I dont intend to churn out another pirate, as 2 is enough for me, it was fun admittedly trying a different build, but in the end its basically the same thing over again, i applaud the people who have the patience to keep starting over, but i would need something different to get my interest back up to start anew once more, or at least something new to continue existing characters. so as it stands, im here just cuz of the friends ive met, i spend most of my time healing and chatting while they level, since i aint got nuttin to do, and honestly, im not quite sure what to do next. |
Im one of the noobs that saw the TV ad and said " cool, play for free", IO started the basic acct and LOVEd it. Went to target and bought a 90 days pass. Granted, Im just now lvl 11 not and lvl 5 sail, but I do like this game. I was playing Star Wars Galaxies, you wanna see a dead game?? Go there and find out. Anyways, I have nothing to add except I saw the tv add and it got me hooked, so yeah, there are new players coming in all the time
|
POTCO is for ages about 8-12. The gameplay isn't going to be that great nor the quests. I think it's a good game in its own category, but if you compare it to WoW or LOTRO, it sucks.
This is a game directed towards beginning gamers. Every game Disney has made has been that way. But companys such as Blizzard and Turbine make games for hardcore gamers. Personally, I would prefer LOTRO over this game any day, mainly because the level of gamer it's aimed for. Also, POTCO quests are casual quests and don't take alot of time. Other quests in hardcore MMOs take hours to do. It just depends on what type of gaming you like... Hardcore or Casual. ( I vote hardcore! ) |
with only 4 pirate allowed and upgraded not coming out quick enough they will lose a lot of pirates i'm playing my 3rd one and it at 31 already. havin 2 that are max out. unless thing change i will be play out before the year ends, but i guess i enjoy my 3 days off lol.
|
All those arguing on Disneys behalf would have a bit more of a point if the quest they actually have in the game was a bit more than just one grocery list after another. Occupational training to become a "Personal Shopper", just what we all needed! The challenge? Finding what you need.. not much more. No need to use your brain, find it, and hack it with a click click click, then return your groceries to the NPC your gathering them for.
I myself have 3 pirates, 2 with quest finished (lvl 32 & 40), and another level 25 with almost no questing (12% of story quest finished), and is only having fun with the weapons (he wants to be a pirate, not a personal shopper). I think the game has potential simply from its subject matter, and the product line it came from (the POTC movies). I fear disney is complacent due to biased reviews we constantly see. (cmon best game, etc???? do the reviewers actually PLAY the games?) I would like to see more, is POTCO dieing? I think the assessment of the running of TV advertisements, 1000's of signups... not paying, maxing thier basic pirates, and then dropping it, likely does explain a lot. There are several that got tired of the monotony of limited activities once they achived Pirate Mastery, or even simply completed the boss battle which I was happy with, but many were disappointed with. I have not played WOW but have read about it, and have friends that have played it and there is apparently a plethora of content to keep a gamer busy, allowing them to change things up and keep busy even if they've maxed thier character. Quests that require teamwork, etc.. ALL the quests in potco are just grocery lists like I mentioned before. As for the target of the casual gamer, they need to find a happy medium to keep the regular gamers happy to. Unless thier object is to not profit or make money from the venture (I GUARANTEE YOU THEY WANT A PROFIT), they need to accomodate the regular gamers also, because the big dollars... are in this gaming group, not the casuals. Looking forwad to the spring/april updates coming this summer, and the summer updates likely coming this fall/winter (snicker). Zeppers lvl 40 http://pirates.teamofx.us |
As one of those "casual gamers" they want to target (albeit a bit older than most) let me say Disney is dropping the ball. I'm not a hard core MMO fan. I've never played Everquest or WoW or any of the others. This was my first ever--supposedly the customer this is geared for.
Forget the easy game play. Forget the rather repetitive lame missions. What is killing this game is the laggy, buggy nature of it. I have died yet again because one second I'm searching a barrel where it is all clear and right out of Star Trek 3 guards teleport in to stop me. They were no where in sight before. Just "poof" and there they are. Same thing at sea. Get into a 1 on 1 scrap with a Frigate in clear waters and BAM I'm suddenly in the middle of the freaking Royal Navy with war Frigates raining fire down on me. I don't mean they caught me unawares. I mean they simply popped into existence. I can't play the game if things are going to suddenly pop into and out of existence. Graphically, the game isn't that intense to justify the extremely poor network coding this game exhibits. I have horsepower with an Nvidia 8800 GT and a Quad Core processor with 4Gig of RAM so it's not my system. I've got 15Meg download and 2 meg upload so it isn't my bandwidth. I thought this might be a good game for my son and I to enjoy together, but not in this condition. They need to seriously fix the truly poor coding in some aspects in this game or all the shiny new weapons and uber quests won't mean a thing. |

I think it is still a little premature to think the game is dying. If anything, then I'd think this game has a freakishly large playing population for how new it is, how buggy it is, how limited the scope of the content is, and most of all for the serious interdiction of what would be considered fairly normal communications for any other MMOG. However, I don't know that it is going to be what the company wanted from it either.
For me, the underlying question is can a company be wealthy enough, and well branded enough, to demand a share of rewards of a rapidly mainstreaming MMO market. The rest of the question is can that particular company ever be flexible enough with its brand identity to let an MMO go where it needs to go in terms of communications between players. I don't think it will die, but it could quite easily lose its entire mature gamer base and become relegated to being just another game for children. None of these games really has enough content for the hardcore gamer. I think eventually all of these MMOGs are going to have to accept that. I think they're ultimately going to have to go back to rating their own content in terms of a number of hours, and then highlight the emergent uses of the game world that are developed by the player base. These games with free access are the best positioned for that because they allow for "retired" players to return occasionally to spend time with old friends, and then the old friends can talk up the content that has been added since the "retired" player left. Even the bugs and lag were revealed by trying out the free version, so I was prepared it all. Due to the wide age range they are enticing to play this game, they have chosen to hamper communications for the safety of the youngest segment of the player demographic. However, the problem with that is that the key to keeping each individual customer for a longer period is to make them feel connected to "old friends" primarily, or entirely, through the game. I think the trial period should be sufficient to signal to the hardcore gamer that they should try out the 1 month for half-price before deciding anything long term, and that one month should see them close to "maxed out" and so in good position to decide their next move. |
So - how about we move this thread towards possible upgrades we would like to see in the game? How about a voice server? I miss not being able to talk when in battle. I used to use TS for my other online game, but the push to talk function doesnt work with potco. Definitely a customise your ship option would be nice.
Along with the bug fixes, and new quests (and something to actually do rather than the personal shopper quests) |

To bring things back to focus here.......
I think we're paying Disney ten bucks a month to be beta testers. I wouldn't be half suprised if the game quietly disappeared one day and we all got emails thanking us for playing. But I'll give it until july first before I end my subscription. |
Can I just jump in here and say I highly admire how you US people get behind your Armed Forces. I only wish more people in the UK would be so admirable about our Ladies and Gents putting their lives at risk in some country just because they have been asked to.
I hope I did not come across as attacking Targ personally (It doesn't read that way) just disagreeing with his point about guns and no blood. I do agree with his clearing up the fact that guns do less damage than hacking someone with a sword. But it is a game aimed at kids and I see more blood in my Seafight.com game when I harpoon a sea monster. Enough off topic mumbling - I agree that we may be in the second phases of beta testing. there are still issues. I get a bit fed up of seeing people running out in front of my cannon and jumping on to other boats. Interesting point about the gambling and drinking. They dont actually show your pirate drinking anything but there are a lot of references to Rum (see Gunner quest lol) and how many times do we have to gamble for someone to finish a quest. Not good training for a new generation. |

To me the reason why is because they haven't been updating very much now. I see myself not playing very often but I still want ot play it. It came out a few months ago, give it some time.

So many point to consider and way too late for me - I'll have to get back to this thread tomorrow :) |
i would have to agree that the game is dying. i've been playing since late jan and the people that i've been friends with are never on anymore. for ex some of the larger guilds are having a hard time keeping members on. but if the issue is that you like the game but you've beat it i would suggest using your imagination and get a little creative by coming up with activities that you can do. For ex my guild does boat racing just starting out with a prize pool of 20k. and then later we plan on racing other guilds for bragging rights. come up with ideas on your own and suggest them. but at the same time the game is farely new compared to WOW has bugs to work out ......though promises should be kept, btw they aren't "new" weapons... having an issue with that. its not "new" its an upgrade... a new weapon would be like a bauonet<--sp (rifle with sword on end) lol bad i know..

Barely any of my friends are on too

Like with most other games, people will leave, but they come back when the expansion pack (or update in this case) comes out. They play it unil they're tired of it again, then leave until the next expansion.
This is the first MMO I've played. And I am finding it surprisingly fun. Most of my gaming has been with FPS games such as Quake 1,2,3, & 4 and Halo. I never got into WoW or B&W. I hope that Disney can keep it interesting enough to keep people playing. |
Being that I have only been playing since mid January (and am quite the casual gamer), maybe I just don't see exactly what people are talking about...
Jan, I have no idea if there were updates, this is when a commercial on TV let me know the game even existed. Feb. I don't remember any big updates, but I do know that there were some bug fixes and such. March... They said they were coming out with the clothing/tattoos. And they did. It was the end of March, but it was still March. April... They are obviously working on more content, and upgraded weapons. Was there are date associated with when this would be released? I assume it is April, and that it will be the end of April. At least it is on the test server. So, I see a nice updates spread about a month to a month and a half apart. This isn't a terrible production schedule. These games are complicated, and take time to design, code test, and push. This isn't designing web pages... Additionally, these updates make sense. They are adding functionality one piece at a time. For example: The clothes/tattoos - adding the ability to obtain things that alter the avatar. Soon we get the first new quests. Soon we get the first new items that enhance other items (additional ammo items). All of these things have to be worked out before a major expansion can be developed and pushed. This plan of putting the functionality out there before the major expansion (anticipated this Summer) is a solid one, that will ensure that the new "features" in the expansion work smoothly, and don't fall apart immediately. As for all of the bugs.... Do you remember the issues trying to play the original EQ when it first came out? THAT game had a LOT of bugs. This game is doing pretty good for a fairly new game. It is evident they are trying to fix stuff. It is clear they are trying to add stuff. How could one possibly think the game is dieing??? |
I was making light of the qoute, it is a fairly new game and most these types games are tasks and reward, the designers are still gathering data for the demographic base and planning what direction to go with it , ( i suspect) it was originally an 10+ E MMO so it can't be too daunting or impossible for kids to achieve lvl - it just so happens that it does not have the challenge lvl for many of the more intense gamers ....yet. maybe it will go that way, maybe not. I am fairly new player and would love to see it go in a more progressive and aggressive direction, regardless for the time being i still find it entertaining enough to participate and wait to see what happens with it.
