Sailing Woes (At Least For Me)

Earlier today, I was out sailing with my sister's pirate working on some quests. We set out on my War Frigate and set out after some skellie boats. With my sister at the helm, I manned the cannons (I prefer the guns over sailing). All my sis was doing was getting the frigate in postion for me to do my thang. She did not one time use the broadsides on the skellies (takes away from the crew rep when you use the broadsides). After sinking several boats, we noticed a problem.
While I was the only doing shooting at the boats, I was only getting around 45 rep while she was getting 80 - 120 rep. She was hitting no take cover, leadership, or open fire.

So my question is, HOW DOES THAT WORK!!!!!!!!!!! If anyone can help, plz plz plz, tell me what do about this.
