Commodore was not in fact a real rank. Commodore was a layman's term for a proxy Admiral, who served in place of a sick, wounded, dead, or absent Admiral. Most Captains became commodore at least once if they lived long enough to retire. Privateers did not in fact hold rank in the Navy, and only held rank amongst one another, much like pirates. Therefore, you have just been promoted to a fake rank Sharky. Grats. |
