Thank you all for your comments. If you find anyone missing from McRaging, please direct them to this post. I will gladly PM them an invite code if they can't find an Officer in game.

lol i was a member of mcraging, i just dint fit in with some of the officers. im still thinking of making another pirate of mine rejoin it as angel blasthazzard is my friend and she's looking forward to having me back. Well whadya mean by 'members deleted'?. McRaging has 430+ members and all the officers are and were loyal to the guild. I just heard from my friend there that she deleted only inactive players (especially basic low lvls a.k.a noobs)

Weren't we all low level (noobs) at one time? I would argue that being new or a" noob" has nothing to do with the quality of the person behind the keyboard.
Anyway, look at the original date of the post. 31 December 2008. I would think that the ejecting being mentioned would have mostly been fixed by now. That's 8-1/2 months ago.

While this message thread is old, the problem that caused it, unfortunately, is not. I have heard recently of other guilds (besides Mcraging) being destroyed by a new officer, who removed all other members prior to abandoning the guild.
IMHO, officers should not be able to be deleted by anyone other than the guildmaster. Certainly, only the guildmaster has the right to promote or demote a member to or from officer's rank, so restricting the removal of officers would be easy: only allow someone to removed from the guild if they have first been demoted to member rank. Whether the guildmaster should have the only removal right is a subject that I offer for debate. I can see that a large guild might want to allow its officers to remove unruly members, however, I think there should be restrictions on this. Perhaps, the game should send a message to the guildmaster's email account when a guild member is removed, saying which officer did it and the removed member's name. Especially, I think an officer should only be permitted to remove one member in a given 24-hour period. |

The parts I disagree about are, one member being ejected in a 24-hour period, and the guild master having only removal rights. These both would be bad to do in my opinion. The point of having officers would be meaningless then. If a GM had the only removal rights, there would be nothing you can do once the GM quits, other than leave the guilds. And if officers are limited to one removal in 24 hours.. that just makes it impossible for an officer to boot troublesome members (say an issue took place, only one of the people involved could be ejected a day). The reason that a guild has officers in the first place is the GM trusts the member enough to give them responsibilities. If the GM trusts the officer, then they should be given the ability to recruit, and eject freely. The reason that a lot of guilds have been getting crashed are because the GM does not select the right officers. |

It's just so wrong when things like this happen. I feel for all anyone who suddenly finds themselves wrongly dropped from a guild they love. If it happened to me I'd be totally lost. What really stinks is that while this is an old problem, it still happens. Makes ya wonder when people will learn...

There are means of protection!
Making every single member an officer is an option. Only the GM can demote an officer, and an officer cannot be ejected without being demoted first. As SOS said though, if the GM goes AWOL, the guild is hung. Also, I don't agree with every songle member being an officer. That staus is reserved for the senior guild members. We have seen an example just yesterday on the grog blog of a guild officer abusing his/her position, and it has been discussed in a different thread. This may work best in a small guild only. Other than the obvious, which is that you have to be careful in promoting members to officer, there are other ways to protect a guild. The GM should have EVERY SINGLE officer in her/his friends list. Not just the pirates friends list, but the players list also. The officers should make sure that they have each other friended. The non-officers should have at least 2 active officers in their friends lst. This is just a calling tree. Like the high school band, the girl scout troop, the softball league, the church choir, or any other organization would have. If something bad happens, whether it be due to a rogue officer deleting the entire guild, or if somehow Disney screws up and deletes the guild, the calling tree would be there to get the word out and bring everyone back together. Calls can be made in any direction. A deleted guild could have it's core put back together in only a day or two, and the rest would follow as they log back into the game.

I hope McRaging is all healed up.
It really is a shame that people like to destroy guilds, sometimes I sit in my old chair that im sitting on right now and wonder "Wonder why they do it?" "What is they're motive?". Another thing you shoulden't do is promote everyone to officer, i've seen numerous guilds in Abassa yell out "First 20 people in my guild get promoted hurry!" those guilds just never work out in my oppinion. Us at PIC know what it is like to our a guild crashed, somebody tried to crash our guild a LONG time ago, im not nameing names because this person no longer plays POTCO. All in all I hope McRaging and all of its glory is back on top, I used to have a pirate in McRaging until the first McRaging crash then I just decided to delete my second pirate. Kudos to McRaging for all of its great work, and glad to see you up and back. |
