Of course they still exist. They just have a different name now. AP has a recent (April 30th) article on such modern day pirates.

Pirates still exist. Go down to the Caribbean once in a while and be sure to sail. You might meet a few that way

Pirates DO exist. I had a pretty rough experience with them on a Cruise ship. I was looking over the side of the boat when suddenly something grabbed my feet and pulled me onto the side of the boat. He held me by my hair. I couldn't get a good look at him becuase I was busy fighting. I ended up doing this sequence in one motion:

Left hand jab, right hand uppercut (to the chin), grab the bar he was hanging on to, and kick his head into the water. I succeeded, watched him fall into the water and row away in his boat, and then proceeded to climb back aboard the cruise ship.


I did, in fact, learn his name; or, rather, his alias that he likes to go by.

His name: Batleth

But yes, Pirates do exist still.

I love pirates, even though they were dirty, sneaky buggers. Love 'em! I have a few books on the lot and several more on my list. And, of course, I've dressed as a pirate for Halloween several times. Went as Blackbeard in junior high while my three friends were Anne Bonny, Mary Read and Calico Jack. Yup. A girl dressing as Blackbeard. I rocked it, though.

Just today, actually, I caught a History program called "True Caribbean Pirates." It was a fun, two-hour crash course on the biggest names in the Caribbean. Keep an eye out for it, if you can!

Cheng Sao, IMO the most successful women pirate, probably the most successful pirate of them all. I am thinking of writting a book about her, but because of her not kid freindly life, it will be difficult to write a childrens novel, like I want to. But I am going to attempt to, anyway.

#2.You have to go to school in the UK or spain cause thats where there were pirates.
