[QUOTE=xdj1nn;287283]Hello to ya all...

I came here just to express my disappointment with the game, specially with Disney to allow such a thing to happen...

I used to play PotCO on limited access during the Beta due to Disney's policy to only allow, at that time, the North American users to pay (completely ridiculous if ya ask me)

The game was awesome, if I am not wrong it had wind influence on the ships at some point, we had pets, we had that awesome Shipwreck Isle, we had tons of clothing, the only part that was quite limited were ships and weapons.

Ok this part first. I played POTCO since about a month after it came out ( have the loyalty bandanna to prove it :P ) I do not remember pets at all. I took a break from the game and I don't know if there were pets and they took them out but from what I hear that never happened. as for Shipwreck Isle, I never saw that either.

The game is fun, but the quests are insanely repetitive and they take hours and hours to be finished, some skills like Take Cover from Sail, are really bad positioned, I mean, those are unbalanced and can give you lots of headache until you can get those essential skills for each skill-tree. Why the hell would I need the tacking speed before Take Cover?

I'll admit some quests can get boring but usually I never get bored while working on Black Pearl quest. also you need to calm down Tacking speed, I believe , increases the turning speed while take cover protects your ship. I don't see at all how those two are related but whatever works.

What we have got from this: Either you are making up Pets and Shipwreck Isle or I missed them. Also you are very frustrated at two skills that are similar in no way, shape, or form. And that quests are fun but sometimes tedious.

EDIT: Also I did like the old days because I liked ship hopping and gold glitches. I played in the old days and I had plenty of fun. I am also having fun now though. But it does seem now all you see is level 50's with 3 weapons mastered who only play the game to get loot. I'm not saying anything is wrong with that no, I'm just saying the point of the game is to take the Black Pearl and level up to level 50.

The game does need to be thoroughly looked into by Disney...for a few reasons...

1) needs a graphics overhaul...desperately...

2) the servers need to be updated with better machines to handle the traffic more efficiently to lessen the lag/latency...

3) new content

Getting clothes, swords & stuff is fine and all...but the game needs to be as we all remember it from the first time we played it...heck I remember just going up to the fort on PR and feeling the adrenaline rush from being chased by the EITC guys...every place we went was a NEW ADVENTURE...

Pirates took their time to explore and actually do all the quests, leveling up while making new friends along the way...nowadays we have players jumping around trying to fast track their levels without going through what we did...

Even for us, things aren't as exciting as back then...sure we got some new stuff and a new island to explore...but how long did the excitement really last?

When you look at other MMO's, they have a huge world in which to explore...and when they do get updates, they get major updates full of quests and exploration to last them 6 months to another year or so...

Updating the islands was ok, even though I kinda miss the look of certain islands, but what Big D should've done was overhaul them all at once while tossing at us the fishing, Raven's Cove, etc...not in little increments because that's where the problem lies...we finish the new stuff rather quickly and then what's left?

Yes this is a fun game...it's also a nice social game upon which many true friendships are made...but it does need more, plenty more to substain it...not little its & bits here and there...it needs a grandiose push forward...

How hard would it be, let's just say, to add an entire new area with a dozen or so new islands to explore and quest on?

It could be like in World's End, where one would have to sail out past an island and hold course for 5-10 minutes or so before they found themselves in artic waters...then traverse a chasm through a huge ice wall and come out to discover all these new places...how cool would that be?

I will keep playing this game because I do believe in it's future...if enough people want it, we should get it because the last thing a developer wants to do is ruin relations with the ones that support their product...

And I hope they read this as much as we read all of their stuff...they need to read these posts/threads of ours because it's the best insight to what's good and what isn't...

I really think they should update the game. It gets slightly repetitive, if you're someone who just fights bad guys endlessly. That's what I did till I mastered (though I took the time to do the BP quest early on and got it finished early - noto 24). Now that I'm mastered, I don't really train. I spend time with my friends and make new ones. I savor the fighting that I do, and try to really have fun doing it. But that was me. It doesn't mean you have to be mastered to enjoy the game, it just means that you enjoy the game a lot more if you don't train endlessly

This thread isn't a discussion that this game is boring. But, yeah, it's in bad shape.

A little history...

I've only been playing the game for close to two years. Not that long compared to others. You may think I didn't rememeber the game way back when, but I did. One of my best friends in real life showed me the game, and I remember his little level 8 pirate. We played the game together, on one computer (He controlled the pirate, I did the fighting and talking). Back then, in the old PR, I remember going into the fort and seeing these high level bad guys. Running from them and trying not to get killed. It was awesome back then.. it was like everything was new.

If Disney could somehow make the game like that again, it would be awesome. They need new story quests for us mastered pirates (especially those with all skills mastered. I'm not one of them). It would be a lot better that way.

Since you are a guest, xdj, I assume you wouldn't have seen the troves of related topics that have come up over the years.... So I won't point that out. I do agree with a few points that have come up in this thread, though, which I haven't so much in other threads like this. The graphics are more sub-par than they were in the start, and the System Requirements have slowly climbed up, as well. How does that happen? :P

The lag is also ridiculous. I can play POTBS (renowned for lag) with no lag. I can play Call of Duty: Black Ops on my PC with no problems on just about max settings. WHY, then, can I not pass by a group of people or loot Darkhart or Foulberto on a not too crowded server without lagging or turning down my quality? A real point of improvement, there.

In short, the quality has actually DEcreased over time, which is the opposite of the normal, and the lag and system requirements are really huge for a game of this quality. However, the features ain't bad, and it still remains fun (though it lacks nostalgia). I'd give Disney a chiding, but they seem to be pushing their relatively mediocre engine for all it has. They want to build a huge, successful MMO on a free engine... Does that sound like an easy thing to do to you guys? :P

omg aww, i was wondering how come i hadn't seen him log onto x fire in so long.
I think he was the only person from Ronin Vengence/Pirate that kept actively playing POTCO after all that guild drama happened. I continued playing PotCO but another game got my attention a few months after that, so I wasn't rly actively playing PotCO that often anymore.

No xdj is referring to how Take Cover unlocks so much later than the lvl that Tacking unlocks.

Apparently some people think programming and game development is easy. Writing code takes a ton of work and patience. One false step and the entire thing is useless.

It's not like they can just plug in anything at any time and say have at it.

I don't think anyone here thinks it's easy...I for one know just how difficult it is, having made countless multiplayer maps for FPS games, along with having worked on various mods for existing games...modding is actually fun, albiet painstakingly tiring at times...but the end results are worth the effort...everything from just making small to major changes within a game to making total conversions of a game...

Regardless, the bigger issue is that Big D still needs to look into POTCO, to listen to it's core of dedicatated players about what's working and what isn't, and to take what they learn to make the game better...it needs a graphical overhaul along with a look into better servers for members to play on that tackles the whole latency issues...and of course, a major game content update...
