Well... Seems like the Princesses will be laid off at Disney World and D Land.

It seems like some people didn't see my edit on the 1st post, Disney will continue to make Fairy tale movies as normal but no fairy tales involving princesses will be released for the next several years or maybe even a decade or two.
Also to those saying it's a bad thing, since when did a princess movie ever appeal to guys? I can name only one, Enchanted, and even that was pushing it. I'm not trying to start a war of the genders I'm just saying that maybe for a good 2 years they should go to boy oriented movies then when the money has been made they should do something totally original that hasn't been thought of that would appeal to both genders and to families. |

No!
The Disney that I was born around revolved on the mystery of the enchanted, the wonders of the imagination, and the innocence and fun of childhood. I feel that directing it more torwards boys, least to say, would be alienating a LOT of people. I much rather enjoy the female-esque (sorry ladies) that we have now, than if we directed everything towards action and fart jokes... This isn't Pixar, darn it! And besides, who never loved watching Mulan? One of my favorite animated movies, definately! |

Hehe, personally my favorite would have to be Aladdin... he was the one who said "Your only in trouble if you get caught!"

I LOVE princess movies. I own most, if not all of them on DVD. I watch them when I'm either sick or just need something to laugh at.
I enjoy Disney movies, with a few exceptions. I love princesses and fairies, yet I still like movies such as Pirates and Cars. Actually, I'm looking forward to Tangled. Other than the fact that it may be... a little corny, it looks like a good family-friendly movie, and not something boys would go "ewww" at. To me, it seems like Disney is doing a good job balancing their movies to appeal to everyone. I could probably stand a few years with more explosions and such though

You are not looking at it from Disney's point of view. First they get bad publicity when the news talk about Princesses being unrealistically slim and causing girls to starve themselves to death to match the looks of their favorite cartoon character.
Also don't forget how "Girl" movies affect boys, my little cousin goes around saying HE IS a princess. That is not right at all! I think they are just going to make more movies with older boys in mind. Believe it or not the average audience of Disney Movies is 10 - 19 year old boys and girls, so why do they make "Princess" movies for 6 year olds. This is why they are making a smart change. |

One reason that Disney is making this change is because it's the same thing every single time. All princess movies released involve a happy ending. Now this may be what the kids want, but I would prefer something like Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet which ends in both their deaths. Honestly Disney could learn something from Shakespeare like "Not everything in life will end in a happy ending". I really hope the change from making Princess movies is PERMANENT!

I agree! Lets change Sleeping Beauty so that the dragon thing eats the prince and the castle with the princess burns down! Who's with me?! xD
That would be the extreme end. I do think it would be interesting to see some stuff that isn't exactly a happy ending, like Romeo and Juliet. Last edited by Tiberius Fireskull; 12-15-2010 at 11:36 PM.. Reason: reword |

Although I do admit that something like Romeo and Juliet would be a little too grownup for Disney, I think it would be a step in the right direction for a company like Warner Bros. or another company.

As for the movies, I'm fine with it - Disney is running out of stories to make movies of. Snow White... Rapunzel... etc. The princesses will always be a big part of Disney.

del is right about mulan tho i saw that 13 times when i was younger lol and ya life some times doesnt always have a happy ending but one of the big things is always try to see a silver lining and the happy endings always make ya happy romeo and juliet they both die the end O_O ya... i want movies like that... but it is mostly that they r probably running out of stories sadly but if they still make movies like toy story, simba, brother bear, tarzan all of those movies end happy in a way and i bet alot of boys saw them too
