The problem identified here, is that gold is STILL far too easy for high level pirates to max out, and still too impossible to get when you need it (i.e. around level twenty-something, sailing 15.)

The loot drop system has indeed exacerbated the problem. Gold and treasures shouldn't be found in a "loot pouch" - they should be given just as they still are from the stump boss on Outcast Isle.

A minor point of correction, Basil: clothing drops (before the loot system) were no longer "very rare" - they were turned off or broken for almost a year. I agree it would have been much better to reinstate those drops instead.

Customers screamed for more inventory space. Instead of giving any more space, the system was changed around to be "more traditional" - which in hindsight, is the antithesis of what any player actually wanted or needed in this game.

In response to any sycophantic comments in Disney's defense about this being harder (at the wrong level) somehow being a good thing, I will say one thing. This same team changed the boss battle, to what it is now. (Yes, those panthers came the same month as the new loot system update. Yes, the Black Pearl is effectively invincible to the first three and last two forts now. Goliath itself, is simply not worth discussing.)

I'm sorry, but I was not self seeking, NOR was I defending Disney. I was expressing my opinion, on how everybody complains "meehh, I have so much gold." If anything, I'm ruining whatever reputation I have here, unless you see fit as otherwise.

So? Are you trying to compare how Disney making the Boss Battle easier is a way to show how Disney failed in the gold department?

The Boss Battle will always be "too easy" for those who have seen it before. For those who haven't, it'll be one of the most difficult, awe-inspiring events the game has to offer (at that present time and level.) The difference between us, who have seen it before in different stages, and the new kids, is that we have something to compare it to.

And the same goes for gold. Nobody's argument would be valid here if they didnt have anything to compare it to. Now, am I saying your argument isn't valid? No. But what I'm saying is, before you assume how hard it is to find gold, take it from a basic level 1's perspective, those who don't have any previous stance on how the gold system previously functioned.

My apologies if you took that a personal slant - I thought my comment was general enough; perhaps not. Your comment is by far not the only one that might meet that description.

Thank you for the interesting perspective. I'm not sure new players to the game agree with you, though. People I have met in-game recently, are incessantly starved of gold at the lower levels (i.e. under 30) when they need it the most. As old-timers of the game, it seems obvious to me (and probably others here) that the new loot system has caused the problem.

I very strongly disagree with your assessment about the boss battle. Perhaps you haven't done it recently, nor seen that the Black Pearl is essentially invincible for major portions of the battle? People are easily able to complete their boss battle now, driving it themselves without only one other person with them...even if that other person isn't shooting at all. Walking up to Jack Sparrow and pressing the shift key, is more daunting a task.

So, I stand by my assertion; the current team is not focused on making any aspect of the game more challenging. The loot system problem with gold is an oversight, not intentional. Perhaps they meant to adjust it as they go? But it is causing problems, particularly for new players.

It's really annoying, I agree. When ships used to drop gold, that was nice. The occasional gold drop helped much. But when Disney fixed that, I thought "Well, what's the point? Aren't we supposed to be looting the ships?"

Having the loot container system, seems a little pointless to me now. It makes things longer, and things are harder to get. Getting stuff from the enemy like we always used to would be much better than making your way to a Loot Skull Chest that has a Rusty Cutlass in it.

The fact that it slows down the process of earning easy gold in Kingshead just annoys me. The fact that you rarely get anything good from Loot Skull Chests shows that this Loot System is a waste of our time, the slowing of the gold earnings in Kingshead adds to the lowered rating of this all. I'm seriously doubting this is all that's cracked up to be...

I'm sorry for everyone's loss of the great Kingshead Grenade Training/Gold Earning spot - truly.

I have to agree with Mags on this one I like the drops. Yea you dont get gold little by little any more but you can get it in bunches. I usually do not have to walk around the fence on KH most of the time just walking up to it is close enough and the few times I do is it really that long of a walk. We do need higher lvl enemies now with the new weapons it is easy to kill Dark heart in 2 shots or a lvl 50 Thrall in one. A nice real challenge would be welcome in the game.

Fire Tigress just turned 30 the other day and completed her staff quest. After getting wither, I brought Jag on as a healer and sailed straight to Kings. I had read this post and decided to pay attention to the gold drops. Yes, there were times when she didn't get a dime. However, about every 4 to 5 sets she got a gold skull chest and most of the time it was full of gold, sometimes as much as 700 pieces. This more than made up for the occasional drought. Most of the time, she did get gold drops. It was easy to pick up, as she was using staff and was right beside the drops (as opposed to leveling nades and having to run around the fence )

I'd just like to add in, that with your statements of the lack of gold, remember that the lower levels are getting tons of new weapons that are worth 20 or so gold a piece. If you think about it, 1 out of every 5 or so enemies, at the start, drop either gold or a weapon. I'd also like to point out that the lower level enemies that used to drop gold everytime only dropped around 5-10 gold. Therefore, though it is a little more work, in the end they're getting almost (perhaps a little lower) the exact same amount of gold in a days plunder.

I'd also like to agree that, yes, more challenge is needed.
Disney has (id like to imagine) a plan for our future. These strong weapons, and being able to defeat high level bosses with a single healer, must be leading up to higher level/more challenging enemies. At least thats what I'd like to believe.

That "new island" stuff that everyone was buzzing about for a while seems to have gone down. I want to assume that these islands were going to have some great new challenges. Seeing as the NPC's stopped talking about them, we may have to wait a little longer, but for now, im really enjoying the potion brewing and new loot system.

Edit: I also would like to recommend that Disney make the rarest weapons a little bit harder to find. The reason I say this is because I'd also like to see player auctioning/trading in-game. This would bring another new perspective to the game. Again, it's probably a long ways coming, but id really like to see it in the nearest future possible
