I would say POTC series is a little bit better then the rest of the pirate movies. Such as....

1. Captain Kidd
2. Treasure Island
3. Sin Bad

I like POTC, but I really like Peter Pan and that scurvy Hook. Mind you, I am talking about the original Peter Pan story, and not the Disney one. *shudders*
The original Peter Pan novel was terrible, as was the Jungle Book and countless others that Walt Disney turned into wonderful cinematic works of art. Don't shudder.

I enjoy all of Errol Flynn's Pirate films, especially Captain Blood. Without that movie, there definitely would never have been any POTC. I think that the POTC series is the best, though. At this time.

And just another comment - I really did not like Walt Disney's Treasure Island. It was too creepy. I liked Treasure Planet, though.

PotC is by far the best, hence I'm a PotCO freak.

Surely you jest.

The first POTC movie was good. The second and third stank.

You want good pirate movies?

Here:
The Crimson Pirate (POTC borrowed a scene from this one)

Captain Blood
The Sea Hawk
(I'll save time here and just tell you to add an Errol Flynn wishlist to your Tivo)

The Black Pirate This one's interesting. It's a silent movie from 1926, but was filmed in color. I got to see it several years ago, and it stuck with me.
