Davy --- EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WitchDr - You are missing the point. I SPECIFICALLY was referring to people and guilds who show up and HARASS players, verbally and for the sake of wiping out enemies before your crew - that was there first - can get hits. I will INDEED make an issue if the players are verbally insulting, or harassing my crew/friends - which was the topic of the first post - guilds who act like they own a server, and players who act like you are intruding on 'their' regular spot. This isn't a matter of a nice player showing up to get rep - not at all. This is about looting at Darkheart, Ravens Cove or Tormenta with a crew, and having people show up and try to harass your crew to make you leave - which, if you actually go back and READ my initial post, and the post I replied to - you would have seen. We often join into other FRIENDLY crews, or add FRIENDLY people to our own crew. BUT, as my post REFERRED to - the rude players who show up - I REFUSE to leave, I REFUSE to crew up - because that isn't what THEY want either. They want to show up, and harass your crew until WE leave - which isnt going to happen. =) Now... please, before you reply again - read my original post, and all replies in context. No one ever said 'We were here first, no one can join' - I said 'We were here first, dont harass us, be rude, and expect US to leave' - BIG difference. If you think thats US griefing, Ill make sure I explain in my next post how the OTHER people are in reality, the griefers. |

Actually, I believe it was your failure to clarify. Do what I do, before posting something, read over it again and ask yourself, "Will whoever reads this get it?" You, apparently, didn't. Now, one thing you could do is the "Word Fencing" technique as Davy and I mentioned. Or, ignore them and stay. After a while, they'll leave. Remember, the majority in the game are kids. And kids have egos these days, so they think that it is THEIR server. I would tell you to go to a deserted server, but Disney got rid of them. /grumble
PS: Just re-read it. Try not to come back as hostile next time.... Last edited by WitchdoctorDan; 11-12-2010 at 10:48 PM.. |

My point is, as an adult - I refuse to allow anyone I crew with to be harassed or bullied. Im the master of word fencing, but if someone is going to grief my crew, I can turn it around tenfold without saying a word.
Perhaps a taste of their own medicine would do the trick - it sure seems to. And, regarding anyone not 'getting' my post - it appears you were the only one who didn't. =) |

Rofl... hilarious! The other day, my brother was with some guildies, hanging out at the Driftwood Shack. They weren't doing anything other than just sitting inside and having a little fun. All of the sudden, some people come in. These people were INSANE. They started yelling at them to get out of "their house". Obviously, my brother and his friends were saying how it isn't anybody's house, but these people were pretty crazy. It was a family or something, and so one of them held out a sword and said something like "GET AWAY FROM MY CHILD!". Obviously, my brother and the Sorcerors weren't doing anything other than standing their ground, and my brother brought up how they were taking this game too seriously. Then one of them said something hilarious.
"This isn't a game! This is reality!" Someone needs a vacation from this game. The ban the should be getting should help with that. Amazing how rude people can be. I really, really hate it when people say that they "own" a certain place. |

Bah, this entire thread is a testament to the immaturity of our generation. Some of the stories posted made me laugh, actually. :] However, a lot of them simply scream how immature and ignorant some of these kids can be.
I've been playing the game (been on and off in terms of actually playing, but in general) since 2007. Back then, you could actually pick up a crew comprising very random people and seldom have to deal with immature people. Even as the game progressed in 2008, the community was relatively decent. Sure, there were a few nuisances back then, but there seemed to have been a certain level of respect that was maintained throughout the game. Fastforward to today, December, 2010. Today, I doubt most of us could go a day leveling in Tormenta, farming Darkhart, or whatever else, without having some random pirate arrive and demand you leave THEIR spot. Umm, yeah. Things have certainly changed a lot. Two major factors play key roles in this rude behavior: - Population: The older the game gets, the more people are going to play it. More people = more rude people. It's slightly disappointing when you think about how much more civil the game was back in '07-'08; but then again, it just comes with game age. - Age: Let's face it. This game is primarily targeted for the younger kids ranging from 10-13. With that comes a guarantee that the maturity quotient of the game WILL drop. And it has. Reading some of these posts (and looking back at actual experiences), age and population aren't the only two things that have lowered the maturity of the game. To me, it has a lot to do with how seriously people take the game. Honestly, ask yourself, you good people of POF who know how to separate game from reality: Do you stand in Abassa for hours on end looking for a date? Do you find a God glitch, speed glitch, etc., and use it in PvP as a means of "owning"? I would hope not. Why is that? Because you know that 99% of the time, you will NEVER get far with somebody on Pirates. Sure, there are rare instances where an original pirate couple meets in RL and it turns into a sweet love story. But those down-to-earth enough know that you hardly ever find a E-harmony-like relationship in the midst of Abassa Tortuga. Why don't you play dirty in PvP? Reprimand people for not conforming to the jumping society that the PvP scene is turning into? Because you know that PvP is ONLY A PART OF THE GAME. It is a simple feature within the game meant to be used for fun and friendly competition, not image and pretentious attitude. It's not the Olympics or the World Cup. You can't put "Awesome jumper" on your resume and expect to get a job from it. Where I'm getting at with all this is that immaturity is the root of this, undoubtedly. However, the thing that sticks the most out to me is how seriously people take the game. A constant need to reprimand people for their PvP style, try to find a date through a bunch of pixels, or go to the Driftwood shack and claim it as your house (That story was hilarious, Davy. Might as well start a reality TV show now. xD) comes from how willing someone is to realize that this is a game, not reality. Overall, despite what I said above, there is no definite answer to your question, Pirate J. It's due to multiple factors ranging from age to mental maturity. In your case, it was raw ignorance that got you. Sadly, some people have yet to realize that behind those avatars sit people filled with real emotions and opinions. It may be just a game, but it's the psychology behind peoples' actions on the game that affects others. |

ROTFL!! I can't believe he really said that!! omg!!
I had another noob encounter yesterday. I was at smasho with a couple guild mates and my friends guild, coastal pirates. Well, i asked there crew leader to crew my friend, and he said "he's a kid." I said back to him "so?" I still can't believe he said this, "if i wanna play with kids i might as well go play with my own." I told him, "you might as well be a kid right now." Then he kicked me out of the crew and left. I'm glad he did. |

Wow, this got on my nerves. I had just gotten Silver Freeze today, and was celebrating and rejoicing, when one of my guildmates says that there is someone making fun of my guild's name because "Sorcerers" is misspelled (ours is spelled SorcerOrs, with an O). First thought I get is: "Why the heck is someone making fun of my guild's name for not being spelled CORRECTLY. I made it this way because I wanted something different." Second thought I get: "I am going to give these guys the talk of their life!"
So I go to my guildmate, and I tell her to let me handle it. I act pretty calm like I always do. I'll give you a chat log. Not exact, but its about what happened. me: You have a problem with my guild's name? her: yea, its sorcerers. me: Ok, I wanted to spell it that way. her: Well its wrong. me: It doesn't matter. I have a wonderful guild, with wonderful people. her: Are they illiterate? me: No, why do you ask? her: just wondering... me: Ok, I think you need a vacation from this game. The ban you will be getting should help. Then I left. I glanced over at my brother's computer, and he is still there. Then she says "They couldn't win anyway." I thought it was funny, because I wasn't really arguing in the first place, just stating a few facts. They were just a few bozos looking for a fight. It really annoyed me though. It would be like someone making fun of Partners N Crime for having an N instead of In (and yes, I know that it is because 'In' was the previous guild). I'm not overreacting by being really mad about this rite?! @_@ |

I know this has nothing to do with POTCO, but here goes my rant. Ok, so I logged onto Black Ops today, and went directly to my friend. He was in combat training, so I asked if we were going to do the usual slaughtering of those recruit robots. He said yes, and after a few rounds, him and his friend decided to have some "fun". My friend amped up the level to veteran, without me knowing, and started the round. As soon as we got in the round, his friend shouted, Everyone VS Muffin! And they both switched over. So I am left to die against super computers. What would you do? Switch over right? Well thats what I did! And as soon as I did they got super mad at me. Just because I switched over! I said to change it to F4A but my friend said Oh Heck No! So this went on for two more rounds. Then I said, Wait, am I supposed to die while you guys have fun??? And guess what they said... Yeah. I said I am not being used so you two can chat and talk while I keep dieing?. Then they just joked about it! Then I got super mad! I ended up leaving the game, but, Geez what friends they are... Rant Over - By the way, you spelled right wrong. xD |

Still fits the topic, since it is about people in general, just outside of POTCO...

Lol Good Lord. I've seen a lot of misspelled guild names. But that doesn't give anyone the right to criticize it and try to belittle the guild in general.
Your reaction was perfectly normal; I would have done the same, to be honest, haha. Good choice, not exploding on her, though. |

Yes Davy, you're completely right that it gets extremely aggrevating. Besides, it's not like our guilds' names are hobas for different typing and spelling, much like other guilds I've seen. Just goes to show, never judge a guild by it's name. |

Yeah, people are kinda rude.
One word- Abassa. Abassa has affected it a lot. Not the server, obviously, but the people, particularily the Tuga Abassa crowd. Not saying everyone there is rude, but a lot of the usuals there are. They do the fake swearing, the asking for gf/bf, the picking on. It's kinda annoying. Luckily, guild wrecking doesn't really happen anymore. |

I think its the adults that are effecting they game. they are smarter than the little kids, so they go and pick on them. Little kids can actually be very nice. in my experience, the adults treat little kids or anyone they dont know like trash, because they assume they are kids. i'm not saying all the adults are like this, but most adults jerks are. Maybe some kids take the game to seriously, but so what? i think its better to talk to them then then just to report them.
Its not fair to treat kids as the problem just because they are smaller. |
