Well swash those pics are not new...if you look in pollys post, "they were playing with 4 years ago."
So and juding by the background pictures it looks like it is a gaming convention, probably E3 and that was a local connection meaning if that was not a one player battle then it was not on a server it was just with the people that were in the same room as her. so it was never the potco as we know it. |

I have heard of another version of a POTC pirates video arcade game that also had the kraken in it. It had been described as a multiplayer arcade game (networked in the the arcade). Could be something similar.
That interface looks like a cross between POTCO and POTBS. I have a feeling a that some of the trailer footage we see comes from these hybrid games. |

The pictures look very pre-beta. The Kraken tentacles... they're a joke compared to the graphics in the phase files. Excuse me, I mean when the Kraken was in the files. Now the beastie is probably out for some unknown reason... ![]() This screenshot I took a few months ago shows the 'large' tentacle. ![]() When it was in the files the animation for it appeared to pull down ships once they lost the battle. And then there's the regular sized tentacles that would grab pirates up and crush them. These tentacles are probably used as distractions while the big tentacle drags the ship under. ![]() But all the trailers for pirates are probably made by the devs. I believe they have their own server to test things before they release it to test. They probably use that private server to make the trailers. That's just a guess, though. Back to the Kraken. If you look at his head you can probably guess why they took him out of the files. He needs a make over. ![]()

The hybrid games as I refer to, may have been written with the target being potco.
Often in development, when testing code etc, hybrid programs, or side programs are developed, that help them test different things. Like they could technically have a "Kraken" game that they use to test framerates on the Kraken model, etc. I have heard of arcade/special engagement games, where participants battle together, against the eitc, navy, and the Kraken as well. One way or the other, we see that they have coded the kraken, it would seem they are having difficulty coding it sufficiently into the online released game though. The descriptions of the first set of pictures, run right along what the developers say in interviews on the official site. I would say that perhaps they only intended it to pull down ships that had lost their battles, but then why did they have this "battle the kraken game" version of it apparently at E3? We all sit and wait... some patiently, some not... we're all hoping! |

I'd like to ask them why we can't battle the Kraken now.
I can understand taking him out of the files to work on the head, connecting the tentacles to the body, and working on the animation and graphics. It's amazing how strange POTCO can be. They can 'work' on one thing and give us some previews of what they're doing, but in the end it never works out the way you think it would. I mean seriously. There was a Kraken battle at E3 but here it is two years later, and nothing! I just can't understand that. P.S. What is exactly is coding? |

The program code, that takes all those images you snag out of the phase files together, and makes them do their magic

Sorry, that's my fault. I saw that video in early 2007 and forgot that the video said E3 2006.
But since it's three years, it's even stranger that we don't have a Kraken battle. It must be pretty hard for them to animate him and get him ready for the test server. |

hmm, Now im thinking that some of those people that "fought" the kraken at E3 wernt really fighting him, Maybe they were acting like they were fighting it and it was just a playback.
Its simpler just to create a video then making something to interact with it, And I know i explained it wierd right there. Last edited by swashbuckler II; 07-26-2009 at 07:15 AM.. |

Possibly swash. Also could have been a much simpler version of it. You have to think about since then they've revamped almost everything that was in that video. They could have done a fake kraken, or just done a mock up, with a few animation points, judging by how it went undefeated (I think, correct me if i'm wrong).

It's more likely that it was a simpler version of it.
One of the video insiders on the pirates site shows the E3 previews of pirates and people playing pirates. The Kraken battle people at E3 played was probably a very washed out version of the Kraken battle.. I bet all the Kraken did was wave around it's tentacles and pick people up. Probably nothing special. |
