Strategy to beat the Black Pearl Boss
Does anyone have any tips to beat the boss at the end of the black pearl quest? I seem to get to always get to the last stage where I battle the ship, but by that time my ship is already severely damaged and I lose immediately. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
(I usually have around 8 people on my crew around level 28+/- 5 levels) |

IF you are damaged alot, best thing to do is usually turn the ship to the right as you enter the cut sceen. Tell all your crew not to shoot. Soon as you come out of cut sceen head slightly to the right and use take cover, and ramming speed.
If nobody shoots you may take a front gun shot, but surviving that will get you out away from Goliath. You should be able to pick it apart with everyone once you are out away from it. |

Ye want a strategy? Well, here's the way I likes to do it:
Okay mates, after having been involved in a number of Boss Battles, some successfully and some not so much, I am finally posting my "Guide" on how to do it. Please realize this is by no means directive in nature. You can do your Boss Battle however you like and I do encourage you to do so. No, this guide is merely one way to complete the Boss Battle, and perhaps a way to get everybody on the same sheet of music before jumping into the battle and then trying to decide who goes where and does what. So first off, a brief synopsis of what is going to happen: 1--The cutscene. Two Navy guards discuss the Black Pearl and the Goliath. I'm sure these two are the same two we saw in the first POC movie "guarding" the Interceptor. 2--The boarding. Now that you are on the Pearl, you have to defeat the Navy guards aboard. 3--Navy Frigates. The Black Pearl is set upon by 4 Navy Light frigates, two on each side. The pearl is grappled at this point so you have to take them out with cannons. 4--The Bridges. This is the tough part. There are four sets of bridges that are manned with cannons that you must get past. The first set has three gun towers, the remaining three have only two. 5--The Goliath. The HMS Goliath is the last obstacle between liberating the Pearl and vacationing in Davey Jones' locker. Defeat the Goliath and ye win, mate! Okay, now that ye know what the various stages arrr, let's discuss how to defeat each one. But first, I recommend taking 7 crewmates along with ye. Why? Because the Pearl has five sets of guns on the main deck, another set of guns on the Foc'sle, and a set on the poop deck. You need to be able to man one gun from each set as you attempt the Boss Battle. More on this later. 1--Once seen is enough seen. You can hit ESC to skip it. Minor issue here--everybody has to hit ESC in order to skip it. If there's somebody who hasn't seen it, you will probably be watching it again. 2--I've found the fastest and easiest way to make short work of the Navy guards is to have everybody that has Voodoo Staffs use wither on the guards. A few hits and the deck is clear. 3--Before we get to the Frigates, a couple of things need to happen. First, have your best sailor (preferably a mastered sailor with Ramming Speed, Full Sail, Take Cover, and Open Fire skills) take the poop deck. The Pilot will dress the two poop deck guns with Thunderbolt or Fury. One mate takes the Focs'l guns and loads Thunderbolt or Fury. The remaining Crew mates split up 3 to a side taking the first, third, and fifth guns, dressing each with Thunderbolt or Fury. The Frigates won't come until the Pearl moves forward towards the gun bridges. There's no big secret here, mates. If yer on the Focs'l, take the port gun. If yer on the Poop deck, take the starboard gun. The forward two guns on each side engage the forward ships on that side. The aft two guns engage the aft ships. Once ye've downed yer ship, get to hammering another until they are all gone. If yer side has been cleared of ships, then get to the other side and help yer mates. 4--Immediately after sinking the Frigates, the Pilot needs to take the wheel and turn to port, exposing the starboard broadsides. At the same time, all the crew needs to take the starboard side guns. Yes, that includes taking the poop deck gun. If yer standing around without a gun, ye missed one somewhere. Start blasting the gun towers. The front three guns take the left-most tower, the middle two guns take the middle tower, and the aft-most guns take the right tower. As soon as yer tower is down and smoking, find a new target. The pilot will use Take Cover as soon as the towers begin firing. Then he will use Open Fire as soon as Take cover is done. Take cover will protect you from the initial barrage from the towers. Open fire will supercharge your cannoneers and bring the gun towers down faster. Also, the pilot will align the broadsides and fire on the towers too! A lot of people don't use this awesome additional set of guns. Once the first set of towers are done, wait and recharge. There's no sense in firing on the further towers--you can't hurt them and they can't fire until you pass the previous set of bridges. As soon as the pilot's skills are recharged, on to the next set of towers. These ye'll attack with yer front 4 cannons on the left, and yer rear three cannons on the right. Again, use Take cover and then Open Fire. Don't forget yer broadsides. Take out each set of bridges the same way. 5--Time for the Goliath. But before ye go, let everything recharge one last time. Put all yer crew on the port side guns this time--The Goliath is going to be to yer port side. Head out past the last set of gun towers ye just took out. Then ye'll get a new cutscene. DO NOT HIT ANY SKILLS UNTIL AFTER THE CUTSCENE! Once the cutscene is over, fire a port broadside, perform a 45* turn starboard while hitting Full Sail, and as soon as ye can, hit Take Cover, because yer about to be hit! Ye might even consider hitting Ramming Speed if yer in the red, just to make good and sure you are far enough away to keep from getting hit. Turn 90* to port so yer broadsides are facing the Goliath. Now just pick her off with yer deck guns and broadsides. Feel free to use Open Fire, but ye probably won't need it. And that's the basic plan mates. I've got enough Boss Battles under me belt to feel confident that these steps work. Usually it's a matter of deviating from these or factors outside of yer control that cause a loss. Fair winds and following seas to ye, mateys!

For the bridges, you may want to consider turning to one side and having your crew shoot from that side, taking out the left bridge gun, then the middle (where applicable), and then the right one. For the last bridge though I'm pretty sure the right bridge gun does more damage, so take it out first if you can. This and having a strong crew, even if it's just 4 to 6 people, has helped in the successful boss battles that I've been in. For the Goliath just have everyone get to the left side of the boat and as soon as the cut scene of the ship ends use ramming speed to get out in front, and fire away of course. Best of luck to you and your crew mate.
