What's with a lot of the players speaking gibberish? Is this like in Toontown where secret friends are talking and it appears as random garbage to an outsider?

Honestly, you're the second person I have seen posted about seeing gibberish coming from users. But I have never seen that happen. I could always talk to anyone I ran into.

Maybe there are in a crew and talking using the crew chat window? And the crew chat is gibberish to all those who are not part of the crew?

Because whispers don't show up on screen. And I can talk to anyone despite them being on my friends list or not. So the crew or guild chat is my only guess right now.

Make that the third person . I can speak to no one, even those on my friends list, or crew, etc. See this gibberish all the time. I can not even communicate with friends that iI have exchanged DXD "True" friends codes with for that other game.

The only gibberish I've seen is the "wwwwssdddaa." They just had the chat bar up while they were trying to move using the letter keys instead of the arrows. But my chat has worked fine from the beginning. There have been times when I've spoken to other people and they have ignored me, I thought it was strange since there aren't supposed to be any kids in beta. Maybe they couldn't read what I was saying. I'll have to keep that in mind and try using the speedphrases.

Grandpa, can you see what anyone is saying in regular chat? Or just some people are jibbering?

Well, this morning I ran into 4 other "pirates" on the beach and they were all speaking gibberish. I just assumed it was a "seacret friends" sort of thing; although they seemed to be trying to talk to me.

Since the last big update all I can see are pirates saying, "blah blah blah" where before I was openly chatting with most players. Some I talked to would never say anything so I assumed they had their chat preferences set to true friends only.
I do not participate in the DXD codes because they are overly intrusive on ToonTown.

I am not sure how DXD comes into all of this. Maybe you guys can enlighten me?
I can't use DXD because the site detects I am outside of the US and it is only for US residents at the moment.

So why do you guys think the DXD might have an impact on this game and the chatting?

if u click on a pirate and chosoe whisper the message is sent to them in thier chat log but everyone else sees gibberish.. I am sure that once the command set build gets reivced this game will have a load of slash commands for tells and everything.. but then again who knows..

DXD is Disney's newer version of their go.disney website. It includes movie trailers, games, personal web pages for members and a chat option that allows you to chat with anyone that is a member of DXD.
That chat option has been enabled in the game of ToonTown and advertised as a way to expand our secret friends list (secret friends are other players that you can openly chat with as opposed to regular friends that you can only use pre-set chat phrases.)

The idea behind DXD chat is that you log into DXD and then you may chat with any one of your friends that is also a member of DXD so for instance if I'm playing ToonTown and you are playing Pirates you can still chat with me.

It's just like using Yahoo IM or AOL IM except that Disney will be monitoring and filtering the chat so it stays within family guidelines for content.

I'm hoping that Pirates gives us the option to openly chat in-game without having to use DXD codes because on ToonTown each account can have up to six characters (or avatars) and once you provide DXD codes anyone that is your DXD friend can chat with any of your characters. So they could be chatting with your child if your child has a toon on your account, or you could be on a toon that you keep quietly to yourself and now everyone with a code knows who that toon is and can access you.

I personally think it's more intrusive than helpful. We tested it quite a bit on the ToonTown test server and I coudn't find anything I liked about it and deleted all the friends on it after the test was over.

what do u mean u cant openly chat in game??? what happens to you when u hit enter??? it should open open a chat box just type away and hit enter then you speak that to everyone in your area

during beta its unlocked for all of us for testing.. I am sure that it will be locked in the free trial.. if this game ever goes live lol

It will say "create account" under your log in area which will bring you to "enter your beta key" page. Click the "exit" button at the top right which will bring you to another screen. Click the "log in" button and enter your login info. There you enter your username under account management and click on "edit" . you can see your chat preferences.

Sorry I am being dense... when I first log in where? to POTCO on that little screen ?? on the Beta Site???? on the choose a pirate screen???
Believe me when I tell you I have looked all over for a place to change my account options and when I try to edit chatpreferences it sends me to the DXD page which does not allow one to choose OPEN chat.
I had the ability to OPEN chat and lost it with one of the updates and so far have not gotten any response from my inquiries to the Disneybots.
Anyone know a telephone number one can call? I am tempted to try my TT #.
