I'm not the only one who's having problems completing this quest am I? He's supposed to give me a ship so I can sail to Tortuga, but everytime I open the game he just has me name it... and nothing happens. I have to draw a weapon to let me leave.

Is there somewhere I'm supposed to go that I haven't noticed? I tried "talking" to all the characters in the area, but nothing seems to happen.

I had that fail on me once too, I left and came back and it worked, shut down the whole game.

This happened to me as well. I shut down, changed seas, tried over and over for 2 days, all to no avail. I reported it twice.
So I made a new character and started over. She had no problems with it. I can't tell you how to get past him,sorry. I can just let you know you aren't the only one.

Does he just give you the ship? I can't remember now if I bought it or not. Does anyone else remember?

My issue is that I have my second ship and it has broadsides but I can't fire the broadsides because I don't have an icon for it so I'm receiving no sailing points.

I can't get the ship from Darby either. Can someone PM me to tell me how it's supposed to go. I don't want to make another char unless I have to.

Yes he just gives it to you. The point where you are naming it is where I kept freezing. I also tried buying a ship from him when my quest didn't proceed correctly. It didn't help to do so.

I wish I could offer some insight into fixing it, I just never could. Good luck!

Hmmm. Seems to me that I had to buy my first ship, a light sloop and it cost $100. Once purchased you can name it. Then IIRC you need to go to the NPC on the dock that the Harbormaster stands in front of and he tells you how to sail it.
O f course, I could have dreamt all this while I was in jail !!!!

press TAB, and then click ships and launch while in water.

I had two of those problems. First, I couldn't get the ship and then the dock character never told me how to sail (when I finally created another character). I roamed around Port Royal what seemed like forever (arg, those crabs). Finally I discovered that I could get to Tortuga by using the Map (move it by dragging the mouse).

On the first character I created I bought the cheapest ship before I got to the quest where you get a free one, and then I had that same problem where it freezes on Darby when you try to click submit after naming the ship (I restarted the game many times and the quest would never go through so I created a new character).

I created a new character and did not buy a ship before I got to that quest and I had no problems getting a free ship.

I also have another problem where I can only board my larger ship (the 200 gold ship) from the Port Royal dock where you click Sail. Whenever I try to board it from the water it just freezes me next to it and I have to restart the game (no actions will free me, I tried).
