Boarding the Black Pearl

Instead of talking about the whole Boss Battle, I thought it might be interesting and helpful to share our experiences with the intial boarding and subsequent fight with the Navy Officers.

I've done the Boss Battle 4 times now with a crew and have found this to be the most challenging part of the task.

Although my pirate is Level 36, I very nearly bit the dust during my last 2 boardings. It seems I was engaged by at least 3 of the Officers before I could even pull my weapon, and only a quick dose of Tonic kept me outta jail both times. (During one of the boardings, a Level 32 mate of mine was wiped out as soon as he hit the deck. He said afterwards that he never really saw what hit him.)

I know people have successfully used their Doll, but, on these 2 instances, I landed on deck amidst a cluster of our Crew and the Officers. Although the Officers had no trouble targetting me in the throng, I found it impossible to single out any of them to attune. Likewise, other Doll Wielders on our Crew had trouble isolating me in order to heal; it was only after I broke free of the crowd -- with the Navy hot on my heels -- that they were able to find & help me.

A couple of us used WITHER from our Staffs on one of the boardings -- which might not have been the best idea, either. The waves of light cast by this hex made it more difficult for others to locate targets and see what was going on.

FYI, these boardings were done with an 8-10 person crew, with levels in the high 20s to 30s. Although that size was terrific for taking out the frigates and bridges -- and Goliath barely got a shot off at us -- I think it worked against us a bit in the initial boarding.

We've done crews of 10 and it seems about evenly divided between staffs and dolls. I like the fiery skull, whatever it's called, #4 on the staff. I've put a lot of skill points on that and it does the job pretty fast.

I'm willing to help Caleb....Ive done the boss about 30 times now with the guilds and all.

I've been in with big crews and crews as small as 2. Most of the time I am the center of attention. I seem to have most if not all Officers on my rear as soon as I hit the deck and have my doll ready for them. Attune, lifedrain and run like mad! The last time I actually joked about being Life Bait for the staffers. I'd bring the Officers to them and let them kill em.

Well I've only had time to do the run once - and we had 5 staffers... so it was no contest.

The basics were simple enough - as soon as you could see the screen - whip them out and start cast wither! I myself got three blasts out and the other 4 I believe did between two to three..

and it was over...

If I was alone or only with a small crew - I would go Doll first... you go for the 'slow play' because you are outnumbered and have no 'quick method' of getting rid that many high level enemies... theres no 'middle road' here - only gettem' all in 30 seconds with staffs or slow play with dolls...

The Flagship Colossus from Tormenta is almost the same as this fight - it is great practice for the crew you are going to take before actually doing the fight - our group had already done the colossus several times as a team before - and we knew the drill for this one. If a small party were going or a low number of staff'ers then this would be a great testing ground for trying your crew...

As I do more I'll be sure to post any updates...
