Walk up to a rowboat, click shift and a box comes up with your ship(s) name, click ship you want to launch.
If you're trying to board a crew ship it will be listed under your own ships, so you might have to scroll down if you own more than one.

Are you asking how to board an enemy ship? If so, the only enemy ships you can board are the "flagships". In other words, these ships have a little flag symbol above their names. You attack the ship as usual, but instead of sinking it, the game will prompt you to board it. You press the "Board" button, and you and your crew will swing across to the enemy ship.

Like Vandelay said, you need to hit a flagship. Once you've made enough damage to it, green circles will appear. If more than one is attacking the ship, the boat that made that last hit will get the green circles. One you see the green circles, use you grappling hook and aim it at the circles. When you land a hook, the boat will be towed to yours. Start hitting the captain with grape shot if you have it yet. If you don't just use cannonballs. A board button will appear, and when the captain clicks on that, the crew will board the enemy ship. Once you've killed all the Navy or EITC, you will automatically go back to your own ship.
Becareful though, sometimes these ships have very high level people on board.

In addition to killing the captain before you hit the "board" button, if you wait a little longer, more enemy crew will come out into the open for you to kill before boarding (about one every minute I think). If you're boarding a larger ship and you have minimal or weak crew this could make the difference in success, and be worth the wait.

Another tip,
I find it easier to solo clear and board enemy ships if you take the people down first... Basically it goes like this... Attack until the circles come up, then get in close, man a cannon, and try and take down as many crew on the enemy ship as i can with the cannon and try not to damage it too much... You can pretty much take the whole ship out crewwise if you aim just right it only takes 3 cannons to kill most lvl 8 guys, and a few rounds to kill higher.. After most of them are dead, I just make sure I leave one guy weakly walking around then solo swing over to clear him off... Thats a tactic I use when I'm taking on higher level ships anyway. |
