Level restrictions on Islands
Do you think there should be level restrictions on Islands like Tormenta, Ravens Cove some parts of PDF like Beckets Quarry, El Sturdon, and the back of PDF where Dark Hart is for lower level pirates? Cause there are way too many lower level pirates at these places that attack a very higher level enemy, getting knocked out and begging for help. Lower level pirates should NOT be at these spots. They are only going to end up getting knocked out. I was in Tormenta today just leveling and looting by myself and there were lower levels running around attacking the same enemy I was attacking taking my rep, attacking other very high enemies by themselves. I see this all the time esp on Raven's Cove they try to attack the Rage Ghost s and other ghosts only to get knocked out. Why do lower level pirates do this? Why go somewhere that's only going to get them killed? I think there so should be level restrictions on these Islands that prevent lower levels from entering until they reach the level required for that island. Good/Bad Idea???

Good idea. I think I said something in another thread about this too.
I too see too many "newbies" for lack of a better word in places where they just get killed. Here's the thing. Before the revive system, if you died in one hit by an enemy, most people would learn their lesson, especially because they would have to travel all the way back there. If this is a place like Tormenta, a newbie won't want to have to sail there all the way again if they figured they will just get killed. It's different now. With the revive feature, they expect to get a revive. This means that since they know that they won't go to jail, they feel they can just go wherever they want, and if they die "Hey, no biggie. That guy over there will revive me." And then they explode in rage if they don't get a revive. I feel strongly that the revive feature has contributed to this. Not that I want to see it removed, no no no. It's a great feature, but it came with a price. I think that any island that can be teleported to, with the exception of Raven's Cove, should be able to be accessed by anyone. The caves and jungles on them is another matter entirely. Those should be locked to people of a certain level. I won't go over every single area and name a required level... that would take too long, but it should be somewhere maybe five levels below the level of the average enemy there. So for Isla Tormenta, it should be a level somewhere around... 25-30. I agree with you completely. We should not let lower levels go to a high level island just to get themselves killed. The other day I was training in Tormenta with some friends, and some low level teleported to my friend. He died, and I revived him once, like I always did, saying to him that he should leave because he will just get killed. Then this girl that was afk comes up to us and says how anyone can be here, bla bla bla and that we should revive them because its the right thing and bla bla bla. I say how I don't want to waste my tonics, and she says that nobody tells me I have to (even though she implied it...). Pib and Sharky were there... they can tell you all about it xD Its a tale for another day though. |

Only problems here are that 1) You may need crew rep, a low lvl person can get in a safe spot and be crew rep for you.
2) You yourself might get knocked out, your friend who is low lvl but has tonics, tries to tp to save you but cannot...if there are restrictions. |

I have to agree...certain places should be limited to those that are at a certain level...not saying they have to be high level to access say Tormenta or Raven's Cove...but they should be at least a minimum high level like say around 32-35 or so... And yea, while the revive system is fine, it should only be available on say RC or certain other high level enemy places...while the rest of the palces keep the "if you die you go to jail" way of things...the old system was good because it taught you not to mess with a high level baddie until you were ready... |

Good idea, because it will add more of a feeling of mystery to islands.

Is there a list somewhere that states what places are the tougher spots to train? I am lvl 27 and I am still at a loss as to what all is out there in the game world.

low levels probably dont know what levels are, I didnt discover the level tags until after months. I disagree, everyone should be allowed everywhere, you dont own certain locations. You dont really have to save them, just leave them and let them go to jail. since many low levels dont really get unlimited, this would basicly be "unlimited only area" for many people, and a good thing about POTCO is that this doesnt exist (or used to doesnt, with the addition of RC)

I'd love to see your evidence. Every basic I've met, high level or not, wants to be unlimited. Anyways, it would give us something to talk about in the tavern. you cant scare noobs about RC when they have been there 5 times. Its a great idea.

I highly disagree.
I want to be able to get Catherine onto Tormenta/Darkhart/ El Sudoron. However, Emily is level 36. I wouldn't classify Catherine as a "newbie." Don't forget it could be someone's 2nd or 3rd pirate. And if a level 5 pirate wants to do some sailing around, visit the islands? I'm good with that. Just don't yell at me where I'm standing training staff to help you. Usually if I see a level 10-15 on say, Tormenta, I'll ask them if they're just exploring, or if they want to get rep. If they're just exploring, I'll usually warn them that the enemies will KO them fairly quickly, so be careful. If they were told you can get quick rep there, I'll usually invite them to a crew and ask if they would like to stand back and heal me, or if they want to use a sword, I ask them to please wait till the enemy is about 3/4 of the way down, so they don't have a problem killing it. If you see a smaller person where it's a better idea for them not to be there yet, you can whisper to them nicely and warn them that they should be a bit bigger before they attack whatever enemy you're attacking, so that they don't get KO'ed. Don't say "get out of here you noob" or something along those lines, that'll just make them angry

For me, I knew certain places were hard and I had to level before going to them...granted I did try to explore but soon learned the hard way, either by getting sunk by high level ships or by the enemies themselves once on the island...which is what I think those that are on their first Pirate should do... It honestly is a "Catch 22"...but I do know in other MMO's that do have limitations where only higher level characters can progress...it's not a bad idea to have that in POTCO as well...don't go straight to Boardwalk, learn the ropes...otherwise one could level up so fast that when they do go to the lesser leveled enemies they'll complain that it's too easy... |

I don't think this is such a great idea... if you don't want low levels lagging up high level places, just go on a quiet server and there probably won't be any.

I really think we should add this, the risks out weight the benefits. plus, its better for the excitement of going to a new place, because most low levels have been every where by the time they are level 15. take me for example. i've been to every island by the time i was level 10. also, its better for low levels because it saves them many trips to jail, and aids the lag problem. Whats to lose?

Meh. I think if a low level pirate (especially unlimited) wants to venture into no mans land and get killed he should be able to, creating all these separate areas where only certain levels can go is crazy.
If they die just don't revive them end of story they will eventually get the hint not to go there if enough people quit reviving. |

I'm not saying this to be mean to lower level pirates I'm just saying that lower level pirates shouldn't really be at these places where higher level enemies are. I want them to enjoy the game as much as I do I just don't want them getting knocked out yes they can go where ever they want but they really shouldn't be attacking higher level enemies. And Chalupa I am on quite severs all the time and yet lower levels are there too at Tormenta or Raven's cove.
