Ruined Grenades Quest!!
Last week on test I did a grenades quest with a friend and it was the old version. Today I did the "new" grenades quest. I guess between last week and today they must have updated the quest and to tell you the truth it stinks.. The old grenades quest was in my opinion the best, most challenging and most consistent with your level quest in the game. It took skills to do alone and was not easy even with a small crew. Sadly D has redone it and here is the "new" quest..
Spoiler alert: If you don't want to know don't look.. 1) Visit Jack Sparrow in the Faithful Bride on Tortuga (500 note) 2) Visit Ewan McCracken on Port Royal (100) 3) Gather the following items from Fort Charles on Port Royal: ------6 flints from crates (100) ------6 castings from barrels (100) ------16 fuses from navy veterans (100) ------(half the barrels and crates say nothing interesting found) ------Return to Ewan McCracken when done 4) Gather the following items from the fort on Kingshead: ------8 sacks of charcoal from crates (100) ------8 cups of sulfur from barrels (100) ------14 buckets of saltpeter from navy officers (100) ------Return to Ewan McCracken when done 5) Gather the following items from Fort Dundee on Padres Del Fuego: ------6 buckets of tar from barrels (100) ------4 spools of wire from crates (100) ------20 powders from navy veterans (100) ------Return to Ewan McCracken when done 6) Sink 5 EITC Ironwalls (100) ------Return to Ewan McCracken when done 7) Deliver 24 grenades to Jack Sparrow in the Faithful Bride on Tortuga -----500 note and a Grenade. IMO not very challenging and add to that the new less sensitive enemies. This quest is a bust. |

How could they mess with the ONLY truely challenging quest in the entire game? As long as it's still on test, I guess we have time for some comments to Disney. Sadly, don't think all the complaining in the world is going to get them to put it back the way it was. I'll be voicing my opinion however, couldn't hurt.
Thanks for the heads up. |

Its beyond me, they keep making the quests easier and shorter.
Someone mentioned this throws off the "notoriety" rewarded.. these quests being shorter, but I realized as doing wiki documentation that it appears they have adjusted various tasks notoriety rewards (increased them) to make up for the fewer tasks. If I had to make a 'positive' guess in this case, I would say they want to add a chapter, but dont want to raise the cap alot (80 for example) to accomodate the new content. So they are shortening the first chapter, to squeeze in the next within either the current 40, or hopefully a raised cap of say something like 50. Even if the notoriety points are the same with raised values as I stated, the volume of notoriety points earned from weapons will diminish with the fewer tasks. This also gives them more room within the current weapons levels. Anyone ever figure out how much notoriety over level 40 they would get with all the weapons mastered etc? |

Thanks for the info, Green.
This truely stinks! I've done the nades quest on open 5 times. The very first, I had help. After that, I preferred the challenge of doing it alone, plus the rep it brought. The next 3 times, I soloed it, and by the time I got nades, the pirates were at least level 20 1/2. Then, the last time was after they changed the enemies to "Swarm" mode. I tired KH about 7 or 8 times solo, then finally had to bring in a healer to help me get the last 5 barrels. Have been getting ready to try it on test solo. Now, according to CGG's info, it will probably be pretty easy. Will definitely be writing to D about this one. And to answer your question Zep, there is no clearly defined place where you can point to and say, "Level 40 and all weapons mastered would be level 4X." There are way too many variables. Soloing vs. lots of help, how many side quests, beating enemies just to do it, treasure drops, etc. all play a part. Taking the 'easy way out' on each quest task to get the quest rep, then still having to rep weapons vs. always going for max rep even on quests. (Sink 10 EITC ships. Do you go after Vipers, or do you go after Behemoths? Both get you the quest rep, but the second option also helps you level sail/cannon. The first requires you to still go out later to get the additional rep. This means you get to 40 with your weapons at lower levels. Leaving you with more rep to earn to be fully mastered.) THis ties in with Zep's comment about getting more 'quest' rep. Getting more rep for completing the task, but less whileDOING the task, means that you will have to grind weapons more to make up the difference in weapons. I can tell you a few facts about my 4, and each of them would be different. Basil still hasn't done any of the level 5 weapons, no SvS, no clothing quests, and if the truth be told, he should already be level 42+. But I play him some. Prob hasn't done any of those mentioned for Basil, and hasn't done the Pearl BB, and should be almost level 41. Prob always went after max rep on every single item, task, quest. Purvis never did ANY of the Pearl quest, hit level 40 with only pistol mastered, but was high 24 on all others. Probably would be about 40 1/2, then needs ALL the Pearl stuff. Lars hit 40 with most weapons at 22/23 range. So what ever rep he got mastering the weapons ????? Note, you can't trust the progress circle after level 40. I've watched it on all of mine. Lars hit level 40, and the very next day his progress was halfway to 41. Only a few ships sunk, and it was full. The next day, it started over, but the day after that, it was 1/2 the circle. Lastly, I personally think D is planning to raise the Noto cap to 50. That's the highest level land based enemy I've seen or anyone has reported. Following the progression that they have on other levelling, going from 40 to 50 would be about as much rep as going from 13 to 40 is right now. Also, the current level 50 enemies are out of range for the current level 40 pirates, in most cases. The way the game has always worked, the higher the enemy is above you, the more likely you are to "miss". about 5 above you is the best you can hope for without help. Right now, they are 10 above the highest level pirate.

Dumbing Down
Don't miss the point here..
This is yet another example of the dumbing down of POTC. For most players there are no, and I mean no challenges left. For my mastered pirates there isn't a single thing that alone can kill me. Boarding ships, raiding KH, even killing high level enemies in Tormenta isn't really too challenging. The grenades quest was the one quest that really made you work hard for it. This is a sad sad day IMO and I for one am upset enough to complain. Time for the poison pen letter to the mouse. I humbly request you all do the same if possible. |

I see the point of dumbing down the game, I guess i've been harping on that so long already i've moved onto the whys... and see it as them trying to balance the game when they push new content, story quest, and notoriety increase. Helps me to see a positive reasoning behind it which I have to believe there is, in which case a step towards adding new content, and keeping the games numbers close enough in balance. Since I want those things for the reasons you were referring, I try to be patient and wait it out.

Personally I will miss the challenge of doing the old Nade quest that way it was.
I remember my first experiences with other people's nade quest when everyone was new to it. Lots of friends and lot of time in jail. Mostly confusion and disorder. Oh and lots of fun. My Kelly.. well it was my first time doing it for my own toon...and I had help. But then I had my Rose Ohara do hers by herself. That was gratifying. And my Liz, late one night I was doing it by myself until a friend showed up who.. well.. lets just say he knows who is is... and it was my most .. uh memorable if not infamous nade quest. Lets just say, I found what I needed and he didn't die. With my Cat... friends were on and they really wanted to help.. so well it just became a group activity. The thing is that I always look forward to the nade quest. I look forward to the challenge of getting what I needed without dieing. I hate when they dumb stuff down.

That's the kind of attitude that allows for this sort of nonsense in the first place. Don't forget you pay to be in that game. If you don't like whats going on you have every right to complain. Waiting quietly and patiently has managed to produce these sorts of changes and I am going to draw a line in the sand here. Change isn't always a good thing no matter what the reason for it might be (or perceived to be). I don't see any good reason to change this quest and I have already sent in my complaint. I suggest if you are as mad as I am you do the same.
