I played this game as a beta tester, but didn't pay for the gme when it was released. If I were to subcribe now, would I get founder status?

No. You need to have paid for a subscription prior to Dec 4th (2nd?) 2007 to receive the founders tag in game.
EDIT: What's your status on test though? You should, to the best of my knowledge, have a founders account there. |

If you have an account before then, whether limited or unlimited, you should be a founder once unlimited. The reason I say this is because one of Lady C's accounts went basic(shes a founder) then when she switched back to unlimited the pirates on that account were back to gold founder status.
