My Rank 1 explosive on "Big Ed" did 5990 damage to the Goliath yesterday. Scrolling back I did not see the "open fire" dialog, nor the logo over the ship health meter, so I assume that was unadorned.
My skill panel for rank 1 explosive says 2250 to 4500. ------------------- Little Ed: Rank 1 said 2138 to 4275. Rank 2 now says 2672 to 5343. (Little Ed is only notoriety 37, cannon 23.) (You're welcome. Yes, I plan on deleting and restarting "Little Ed.") |

Update: (Leveled up AFTER the double rep was long over...)
Little Ed: notoriety 37, cannon 24. Rank 1 said 2138 to 4275. Rank 2 said 2672 to 5343. Rank 3 now says 3206 to 6412. (You're welcome. Yes, I plan on deleting and restarting "Little Ed.") |

1-100%
2-125% 3-150% 4-175% 5-200% I think that putting a point on a skill usually either adds 100% of the original skill point value on like Parry (2 +2 for each skill point) or 25% for stuff like a shot. I think that if you read one of these stickies you'll find the thing of what I'm talking about, but I don't know which one it is. Maybe it's the cannon or sails one in the Ship section. Iunno really. Edward, I'm sure that the power of math (or is it the deceitfulness of math?) can determine how much damage the thing will do:
1-2138 --> 4275 2-2672 --> 5343 3-3206 --> 6412 4-Imma guess ~3740 --> ~7482 5-Imma guess ~4275 --> ~8550 A message for the kids: don't add unless you gotta! It will absolutely make your life miserable!!! |

Rank 3 now says 3263 to 6525. So, those numbers do not quite correspond to your extrapolation. One might guess that a level 40 cannon mastered rank 5 explosive might shoot 10,000 damage in a single shot. With a pirate-mastered captain with rank 5 Open Fire, that would (in one theory) do 20,000 damage in a single shot. Or maybe that would be 320,000 damage? I'll wait until I've pushed it up further before trying to make that assertion. :-) |

Level 25 cannons, rank 1 explosive...
I get 4000-5500 damage, varies based on the ship im shooting at, and where/how many times I hit it. Higher ranked ships, less damage, also where you hit varies damage. Hit the rear of the ship, more damage than the side. Ya know you guys may also be forgetting passives. Grenade has several passives that effect cannon effectiveness as well. |

I don't think Barrage increases the written numbers.

Now I think it does: I don't like quoting me, but the Conservation skill does lower the written cost amount for the Staff, so I'm guessing Barrage may raise the written numbers.

Now you are getting it. Once you put points in barrage, spirit mastery, blade instinct, you will see every time you level their respective counter parts increase. This to me is the main issue over getting points back. Since adding 5 points to any of those above skills it ends up the same stats as 4 points on the final 40th level. We don't get that 5th point added than give it back. The disaster they have now on test made it most likely anyone that had barely any descent stats at all would never change on some skills. With being forced to take junk they don't want that they will have to if they change points. (hint :use your points before this comes out) |

Is there a list somewhere of the skills with defective and/or disabled rank 5 settings? For Little Ed: barrage is rank 3, shrapnel rank 2. |

This would be easily tracked on the xd site, but they wouldn't put damage results there. So seeing everyone with 4 points in barrage, has the exact same end result damage as everyone that has 5 points can't be looked up. Too bad people don't read some of these posts here where this has been a known subject for months on end. Go ask friends who have built a character, ask them if they have 4 points in barrage, spirit mastery, blade instinct or 5. Compare any of the same damage results in any one of those. Than check someone that has say 2 points in one of these and see how much less damage they have when they have maxed at level 40. As a math variable, certain things have to be at a set parameter. For best final result, set variable is level 40 since damage will be climbing up per level until this point. Take several level 40's compare and you easily see these results. People here who don't bother figuring some of these simple things out, are the same ones complaining others are too good, have to powerful cannon etc. Next thing ya know you find your cannon on all these characters is altered and something like 8 levels dropped on all your characters to beckon to all the people that won't work at a character and build good stats. That leads to the wonderful fury like we have now at 900-1800 instead of the 1050 -2100 a month ago. So people that have worked at there characters can now run out of ammo at the first bridges on Boss battle and do less than half damage to the players ships that don't feel like they should have to work at any of their character stats. |

Good call, Zep. I was completely forgetting about passives. Little Ed has rank 4 demolition, but that only increases the area of effect, not the damage points dealt. Barrage is only at rank 3 (15% increase in damage.) Now for explosive:
Rank 4 now says 3806 to 7612. Testing it out on the high seas, I kept sinking everything I hit. I got a screenshot that I'll try to put up in a little bit, of hitting a marauder (with open fire called out) doing -19590 damage (and sinking it on that, the first hit.) So, I think the damage dealt, is more strongly tied to the difference in level (noto+cannon/2 vs. enemy ship level) than the suggested numbers given on the skill panel. SvS on the other hand, is more bizarre every day. Some hits were 325 others were 3692 (the war sloop that wasn't glitched) hitting the same spot. Even more curious, was that the crew didn't die or get harmed at all on the war sloops that took only 325 damage. (They also proved to be invulnerable to grape shot.) There was also one where I hit the mast - no damage was numerically indicated for that. |

No damage points are registered here, because it effects sailing strength (has never been represented in numbers) instead of hull strength (where we see damage numbers).

Keep the info coming! I'm psyched. Edward, test it on the highest ships.
Oh, and by the way, I don't think putting points in it is such a waste. Think about it: you can shoot your explosive, and, since it takes so long to reload, just switch to the Bolt. It's like a horse that gets a huge lead off the gate. |
