Have to agree with you here Schmoofy. Absolutely brilliant writing. The finale was way better than I expected it to be and I am pretty sure this is one the best Lost episodes ever. The ending was horrible. I found the "flash-forward" really interesting but the episode shouldn't have ended that way. Also, Walt showing up and talking to John was extremely random and I don't think anyone saw that one coming.

This Jacob person is really starting to interest me, if it's actually real. I think he's a made up person by Ben to keep control over the other others, since we now know that the others and the Dharma Initiative are different. Just wow, the last two episodes had my attention but this ending completely ruined it all.

Whoever said that it was a flash foward? I think it was a flashback for fact that Jack mentioned his father. His father died in Australia, so it HAS to be a flashback. However, if it is a flashback, HOW does this meeting of Jack and Kate take place? Then again, in the first episode, Jack and Kate were barely introducing each other, which makes this indeed a Flash Forward. Neither scenario makes sense. I need to watch that episode again. I'm definetly missing something. After all, in the episode with the Room 23, one of the decrypted messages is "only fools are enslaved by time and space." Perhaps there's a bit of time travel that took place and history was rewrittent to make this a flashback. No matter how you look at it, it was still a good episode, and I agree that the ending was very horrible. Not suspenseful at all, just down right confusing.

Well, Smoop, check this page out ---> Click
We still don't know who died, though, or why Jack was so upset about it. The rest of the stuff on this guy's page is pretty neat too.

Nah, I think it was a flash forward. There are too many things that point to that. Episode was good, they redeemed themselves on this one.

Hi!
Had to say I loved the final episode of season three. Also, it is a rare treat to have seen as many episodes here in Finland (season 3 finale part 2. was shown on January 17.) as people have seen in the US. Soon season 4 will start in the US and I have to start avoiding all Lost-discussions again, in order not to get any spoilers. The idea of adding flashforwards to the series is very good. Simon

I got LOST in 8:15 from iTunes for free and watched it....
I don't really understand why people like LOST so much... it's really sort of gross. |

Ok, after this post I have vanish from this thread, I'm mortally afraid of spoilers. Luckily season 4 starts here in Finland too pretty soon - surprisingly soon really.
![]() I don't think there are spoilers below, but be careful anyway, I don't want to ruin anything from anyone. Anyway, I don't know about other people, but I love lost because it is, without a doubt, the television show with most substance. Granted, there are many things just put there for show, probably. But in the season 4 finale I was thrilled that someone called Minkowski answered the phone. (Nerdy explanation: Hermann Minkowski was a German mathematician after whom a formulation of the spacetime of special relativity is named Minkowski space. I thought this might imply that the island is some sort of a spacetime-anomaly.) There is also many more things to make you think: Questions relating eg. to philosophy (free will, for example) and religion (Lockes faith) vs. science. Also it's packed with interesting literary references. In Dante's Divine Comedy The Mountain of Purgatory is on an island, the only island, on the southern hemisphere. Sounds kinda familiar... With all the other purgatory references it seems to me that the island of lost is also some sort of a metaphorical purgatory. But the views above are mine, and so are very possibly false. I use the next line for the second time, apologies for that: I still haven't seen any of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and thus really don't know Jack. Simon

Spoilers below.
Well, after watching most of the season 3 finale and the season 4 opener, I have some thoughts on them. The finale was great. Not every finale has to go out with a bang, I thought this was just as good as any hatch implosion. When Jack goes out to meet Kate, at first you think it could be someone like his ex-wife but it wasn't. I was glad to see she also made it off the island. But Jack's a changed man, something went wrong when he left. He wanted to get everyone off the island, he was their leader. But maybe he couldn't do that for some reason, maybe he couldn't get everyone off and maybe only a few did. Jack wants to get back but I think Kate is just happy to be off the island. Here are some things we learned from those last five minutes. 1. Jack and Kate got off the island 2. Someone gave them flying passes... 3. Kate is supposedly married 4. And, of course, the funeral. I think the funeral is Ben's. I think he got off the island and later died somehow. Now, the season 4 opener. Hugo got off the island also, I guess. Those were flashfowards, right? One thing I don't understand is Jack came and he changed. He beard was gone and he admits that "we can't go back.". Where did that come from? I thought he wanted to get back. But Hugo said that "he should have went with Jack." So maybe only one group got off the island, with the exception of Hugo, or something like that. Hugo said something like "Locke wants us to go back." So maybe Locke and some other are still on the island. And that black guy. From Oceanic? That was some weird stuff. And Hugo seeing an old house on the island? I think that could be the workings of the monster. I mean, it does add up. One more thing. Jack has defiantly changed on the island. He's become more obsessed, I guess you could say. I mean, he would have shot Locke. He still wants to get everyone off the island but it's like he can't see ahead enough to see that it's a trap. I saw the last few seconds of last night's episode. Ben has a guy on the boat? Hmm, more questions. |

This particular ending just left me with more questions, not answers.
