POTCO CAN work on Linux

Ok guys, Disney said you can't install or run Pirates on Linux cuz they didn't format it for it. So here is the full install for linux. I don't really like linux cuz of this hard install but here you go....
to do this goto term and type
sudo apt-get install wine

then after install, type wine PotC-setup.exe

I don't really like linux cuz of this hard install but here you go....

Definitely interested if you get this working. My experience with getting Wine to work with most Windows games ends in disappointment due to DirectX. If I do get them working, there's always some weird bug that manifests to annoy me or slow the game down. There are a lot of DirectX games that do work well (using Cedega as the frontend) but I'm not sure if anyone's tried PotCO with Cedega (as in I don't see it in their tested games list).

I don't mean to be a bummer! Carry on! The spirit of Linux beckons you to try and try again.

I too am still hoping for the best sunny... keep us updated and maybe the 'linux brain' above me have some tips if you get stuck ( <--- points at Sven, canse I don't have a clue! )

I just discovered that part of it is written in python!!

Their graphics engine is Panda3D, which is free software, and is available for Linux.

They appear to have developed under Cygwin.

I wonder if they will create a Linux port?

If enough of us hassle them, then maybe they might??

Aanyway..

I did a packet capture on both a Windows computer and a Linux computer.
When you log in, it sends your login over HTTPS to 198.105.196.11 (apps.pirates.go.com).

Now here's the problem:
Under windows, the SSL session is set up fine, and everything goes smooth.
Under Wine however, a Plain-text HTTP request is sent, which is met with a hang-up (thus the "socket_set_error: Success").

Therefore, the problem is that SSL isn't working in PotC under Wine.

I hope they do fix it. Pirates is one of the main reasons I have not been using my linux box. I even put windows XP on my linux box to play Pirates. My linux box has better hardware than my wife's vista computer, not much though.

Well, what is it? Their login sequence is a python script that passes a string starting with "https:" to the http: handler? Python is supposed to figure it out, I thought. Is it that it can't get to the Firefox' SSL stack? Does changing the default handler for web browser affect it at all? (Oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please. I soooooo, want this to work.)

Well would be cool if you get it to work, but I wouldnt even ask Disney to fix it.

Id much rather they fix the platforms they already distribute before supporting additional platforms. Supporting additional platforms will make the glitch fest even worse.
