They are great for killing!
Grenade. Pistol. Cutlass. Doll. Staff. It doesn't matter.
Plus they don't do that much damage. You can stand right in front of a Level 35 Stump for an extended fight to gain more rep and chances are you will be fine. I've never been killed by a Stump. I can not say the same for a Seabeard or an Undead Raider.

They've always reminded me of a cross between the evil trees in Snow White and...uh...the evil trees in Wizard of Oz.
