War Sloop Downgrade from frigate?
I'm saving up for a war ship and I'm still deciding which one to get. I went to the game's website and read the chart of all the ships features (Broadsides, Cargo, etc.) and I noticed that the war sloop seemed to have either the same or worse in everything. It held less crew, had less hull and sail points, had the same cargo, had less on deck cannons, and had the same amount of broadsides as the medium sized frigate; and it costs more than 2x a frigate!
Is it just a big downgrade or am I missing something?

well yes its a sloop mainly used from getting from point A to Point B not made to sink ships
as for buying one i would go for the war galleon first since it has good hull stregth and has the largest capacity for cargo and it makes money really fast |

War sloops are designed for fast hit-and-run attacks. It is most beneficial for those who like to solo sail. It actually has 8 deck guns, as opposed to the 6 the shipwright shows. I personally love this ship and use it all the time. The speed of the War Sloop is, by far, its greatest asset and cannot be compared (except for using burst of speed). The smaller the sloop, the faster it goes, for obvious reasons.

IMO, save for the Galleon. As much as i love the Frigates, I prefer the galleon. 2 of my 3 active pirates have the full war class....the galleon is the most popular for my crews.

Well I was already about 90% sure I wanted a war galleon. I said I was still deciding though since I still would think a frigate or sloop would be good. But anyways thanks for letting me know.

my sister gets the sloops, my bro in law gets the galleons and I get the frigates
that way we have any ship we could want |

i love the war sloop, isnt meant to be armored anyways, but having the same amount of broadsides, and armor as a normal frigate, as well as great speed, doesnt place it as a downgrade in my eyes.
ive sank every ship out there with a warsloop, and probably taken a few hits or none at all, compared to if i tried to use the same tactics with say a war frigate. its all on how you sail. making the whole "best ship" debate dubious at best. you might like a war galleon..i think theyre slow and use less. but then again, ive seen my friends use them much more effective than me, and they compliment me on how i can evade being hit in the sloop, so in the right hands, any ship is a good one for their particular style of play. i have all three, and the only time the wg sees use is mass money making (floating well armored gun platform) and the frigate is a great all rounder and good for crews/teamwork. but when im serious about sinking/repping as fast as possible, im using the sloop ![]() so whatever i feel is worthless, i can have someone tell me, and usually prove me otherwise so umm...every ship is good imo.

I love my war sloop; and, the more I sail it, the greater my preference for it grows. I do also own a (medium) frigate; I do like it for parked cannon training (because I have to return to the helm less often with cannons covering all but my rear arc). I think I would also probably prefer to use the frigate to train potential crew candidates, just for the extra protection the frigate provides.
So far, I have used it exclusively as a solo sailor. I would add agility/minimal ship profile to the advantages of the war sloop. Frigates and galleons perform fine in stop/start evasion tactics, but the sloop shape opens up some more opportunities to use "spin-in-place" and moving/tacking maneuvers. The movement and combat speed of the war sloop is definitely nice too though. I'll agree with what the other sloop sailors above me have said, it will depend on what tactics you personally enjoy using when sailing. If you look out across the ocean, and see a number of discrete tactical positions that you could use to switch between helm and cannon to take out preferred ships in some relatively high traffic areas without sustaining much damage on your own vessel, then the war sloop might be for you. |

Sloops are MUCH more maneuverable than frigates, enabling you to do more effective boat karate.
There's a sweet spot behind every ship where it can't bring its cannons to bear on you. If you can get there, you can sink anything by lining up one pair of broadsides on one side of the stern, firing, then switching to the other side of the stern and firing the other set of broadsides. Repeat until sunk. Sloops are ideal for this tactic. (Note: this doesn't work well on skeleton ships) I did this with the Juggernaut in my regular sloop (not war). But every time I'd fire, the health only went down one pixel. I could have sunk it if I'd been willing to sit there for half an hour and hope that nothing else would have come in range. |

yeah war sloop is my FAVORITE ship. It is a lean mean killing machine baby~
Like the poster said before me, it is much more limber. It is hull health is a deceiving figure because in reality it is harder to sink than both the war galleon and (maybe war frigate). Simply because you do not get hit as often. When I wanna do some serious ship hunting (juggs, dreads, black harbingers), I use my war sloop and hit and run with it. I got my war galleon recently and I just plain hate it. The thing is so slow to turn and sail, and sinks easily. I mean would you rather deal with a kingfisher or a monarch? Unless kingfisher is really close, it is super hard to hit it because its streamlined built. |

I may be late posting this but I bought a war galleon and war sloop. The galleon was bought to make money and the sloop for quick runs. I love my sloop, it is so fast. My friend has a War Frigate and even thoug it handles so well against those ghost ships, it is very slow.
Excellent comments ppl. |

I can't afford any of the war ships yet, but I've try'd all the ships available to me thus far and am aiming for the war slooping, slooping rules!
I have noticed that a lot of people arn't brave enough to gun for me on a sloop though, despite the fact that I've been very successful at taking down really big ships, even by myself, with a gunner or two I'm unstoppable and my skills arn't anywhere near great by any means. |

I just bought the War Sloop yesterday after reading the reviews on it here. I must say, I am pleasantly surprised. I have had a War Galleon for a while, and like it, but the WS is more nimble and easier to fight with. If you want to go broadside to broadside, then perhaps use the WG, standing off and firing use the War Frigate, but if you like to get in and get out with little damage and a good reward, then the War Sloop is a good option.

I love my War Frigates (I have two). I like the speed of the sloops, but becuase I always play the game with my missus, I always have some sort of crew. I like the stop and fight option of the frigate.
The firepower of the War Galleon is awesome, but I always go out in my frigates. All in all it is a personal choice and your own preferred tactics. Hit N Run - Sloop Firepower - Galleon Stand off fighting - Frigate |
