Another Grenade Question....I know sorry...
So I did indeed search the boards and scrolled through posts in the weapon forum that went back to mid December 2007.
I'm currently lvl 7 grenades. I have one point in Throw, one in Long Volley, one in Explosive, and one in Stink Pot (for lvling purposes). I have Determination available but not yet unlocked. I have 4 available skill points. I could not find any posts dealing with allotment of skill points for grenades. There are many detailed ideas for the cutlass, some for the pistol, a lot for both the voodoo doll and staff. Most of the grenade posts I found dealt with how to get them in the first place, and then how the heck do you get these things to work LOL. I've suffered through both of those periods of grenade life and now I don't know what's worth a point and hat's not. I don't usually ask for a lot of help however I've made mistakes with all my other weapons thus far so I'm hoping maybe I can make more educated choices this time around. Thanks in advance to anyone with input. -Grace O'rackham/Samantha Redsteel |

You'll want to unlock all your grenades mainly so you can carry more for when you level them. I wouldn't assign skill points to anything that will make the grenades do more damage. (They already do a lot of damage so rep can be fairly low). That includes other weapon skills like barrage and shrapnel in cannon that can impact grenades.
Grenades have really good passive skills, but I would be careful when assigning points to demolition, you don't want to make the area too large. Might wake up some enemies you don't want to wake up lol I like determination. I really don't know how well ignore pain or toughness works. |

Grenades are a really sketchy weapon. They really don't have much of a use none the less you have to level them for the 8hp per level and to progress yourself towards 40. Anyhow if i were to make another pirate here is how I would allocate my points through grenades and why.
5 - Determination *It's not a great ability because you don't regenerate health in combat when you need it, none the less it will cut down on downtime while leveling with out of combat regeneration rates increased 50% 5 - Demolitions *Do not put these points in until your grenades are mastered. They increase the area of effect of your grenades by quite a bit, they significantly increase stink pot (the only pvp viable grenade) range of explosion and make it very easy to land the snare effect on pvp players. Relatively worthless in pve for anything other than pulling the kingshead guards to the fence. 5- Ignore Pain *This is another ability that im left scratching my head with but it's kind of like the best of the worst. The first point reduces snares and stuns by 10% which is very misleading because with 5/5 it only reduces them by 20%. In pvp a cutlass will keep you pretty much spam snared so it's not of great value but you never know when that .5 second reduction may help you break away from someone. 5 - Explosive *Do not allocate more than 1 point in these until you've mastered Grenades. You can hold 75 of these bombs and they actually hit really hard. They're next to impossible to land in pvp but if you have some suicidal desire to PvE using nades these will be your main source of damage. This is the only 5 point skill i'd consider for debate in the grenade tree. If you fancy throwing nades across the seas at ships you could go for siege and if you prefer pvp'ing I'd recommend stink pot for the 20 second snare. All around I'd go explosive. 1 - Long Volley *Get this point as soon as you hit level 4, you'll need it to throw distanced nades used to pull the Navy Pack in Kingshead. It also allows for a much more versatile play style with nades, they need all the help they can get. 1 - All other Grenades *You'll need to carry as many grenades as possible to help you level, they run out quick so every little bit helps. All of this is matter of opinion but I tried my best to justify why I have these opinions. Hopefully it'll help some of you decide how to distribute your points without worrying about messing up your characters. -Just as a little side note if you're looking to do the maximum amount of damage with your grenades drop Ignore Pain to 1/5 and bump Long Volley up to 5/5. The benefits from ignore pain after that first point are minimal but I consider them more valuable than extra nade damage because after mastering them I'll make it a point to never use them again :P. This spec will add 240 more damage to your nade of choice while only reducing your snare/stun reduction by 10%. Shifty~ Last edited by ShiftySwagger; 03-06-2008 at 10:04 PM.. |
