I have two other idea that you didn't mention, but all of yours are great! One is being able to take captains as hostages, and the crew has to pay for their captain back. Then you can sink them anyway. My other idea was very simple, How come the ships just suddenly sink? It should be more like when the health bar drops all the way you ship starts sinking, it doesn't sink. then you can still fire, but it gives you a chance to abandon ship. Then you could have lifeboats, small 2 person lifeboats. that also had some cargo room, you could choose to buy from 1- 5 depending on the ship and carry up to 3 cargo on each boat, with nobody else.

I also like the idea of being able to design your own captains quarters. Add a rug, some paintings, a few tables and your good to go!
