In the one invasion I witnessed, JR had a voodoo spell similar to our "Wither" spell, that would take out just about every pirate in range.. even the level 40+s.
I also noticed his voodoo spells attacked everyone in range, he apparently has no need to attune anything, or can cast all voodoo spells simply as range spells. Several times all the pirates in range were in chains for example all at the same time.
