North symbol on compass doesn't point north?
For some reason the north symbol on my compass seems to be pointing toward isla cangrejos, (Im sailing near port royal currently) and according to the map it should be pointing around rumrunners isle, there have even been times where I have been at rumrunners isle and its been pointing to tortuga!
does anyone else have a problem like this? |

I had the sun set in the North for me...
Loooove game physics As annoying as it is, I haven't found a need to know where North is in the game Quote:

I think the point here is that the map shows North and it doesn't coinkydink with the compass in the game? right?
We don't care if you don't care about whether we care! The facts speak for themselves! And yes...I have jumped onboard, and based on my map, I have sailed in a compass direction only to find I am nowhere near where I want to be! Last edited by Requiem; 12-12-2007 at 12:37 AM.. Reason: Flaming |

I think the yellow arrow in the compass doesn't point North
but it's pointing to the quest that we are currently tracking (the one with the sun symbol). Did you skip the compass tutorial after you got it from Tia Dalma?

Yes, the arrow points to your next quest (if tracking is enabled)
The compass also revolves (like a real compass) and indicates a directional heading. I have taken a look at the compass (sounds like I got out my tools and took it apart! LOL) and it seems that the map is wrong in relation to the compass. I have a map available (here on the forum) and I will be adjusting the compass position accordingly. Once I make the alterations to my map, IT will jive with your onboard compass. Please watch for the updated map. |

Maybe it's just me, but I always figured that "Jack's compass doesnt point North" & "It leads you to whatever your heart desires"(Quests)

Compass point north? Ha! I'm sure our map in game also thinks that the world is flat.

The world IS flat!!.... what grog are you drinking?
Okay lets get technical here... Just like Jack Sparrow, we have two compasses. Our ship's magnetic compass, the one that indicates our heading in the natural world. And our "magic" compass that does not actually indicate direction other than pointing to the place we (in our hearts and minds) want to be. So, I have fixed the map, to correlate with the magnetic compass (on your game screen)...not the "magic" compass. Okay? got it now? Now stop it!!!!.....I'm getting a headache!!! |

I've never payed attention to the whether my compass is accurate as far as direction is concerned, but what I have noticed is that it often doesnt display enemy ship positions correctly. Sometimes it even indicates them as friendly ships (blue dots or ships instead of red). That gets frustrating for me because I like to use it to guage just how close a ship we're firing on is getting when I'm sailing.

I have never seen enemy as blue, or vice versa!
but did you also know there is a radius adjustment for your compass? Look for the + and - symbols on the compass, these adjust the view radius of your compass. Personally I leave the compass "as is" for in-person but when I go sailing, i hit the minus button, twice. the compass will then show me ships outside my view, but within cannon/broadside range so I can battle using the compass view and don't have to see the approaching ships. |

Probably just a poor coding problem. I don't use it, but it'd be nice if it worked. Maybe it's a play on the fact that Norrington says "A compass that doesn't point North..." in the first film when he was inspecting Jack.
