Hehe, I'm not worried about any of the big ships. I've sank every big ship there is, with shocking regularity. It's how I got to sailing 15, by taking on the monsters in my Black Dragon Gallon. Behemoths aren't any big deal to me. I don't care for the Dreads, the little stinkers sometimes turn on you even after you strip the sails. And I abhor the skellies. It takes too many shots to strip their stronger masts and being frigate class the little pains nearly always turn on me. I'd rather take down the Behemoths and Colossus any day of the week than do the big skellies.

I dont think they are toying with us as much as they are making an attempt to change the ebb and flow of the NPC ship traffic I think. Along with their attempts to make this NPC ship traffic fit in with their lore/rpgs.

Your too close, or not doing enough damage before they get to close.

Before they changed the various shipping lanes, etc. The hinterseas, used to be full of phantoms. They were my favorite to level cannons on, because I could park and lure in phantom after phantom and at least until i hit the upper teens of cannon levels could get my 100 pts each. They always turn to their left I position my ship heading to my right, so I can sail the direction they turn. They start to turn, I run to helm, and finish them off

It occurs to me that I didn't tell you guys how I sail. The day I became a DW I went sailing with Jess... I'd never seen anything like it! The very next day I set out to teach myself how it was done.

I get my ship absolutely no closer than the very edge of my compass. (When sailing alone. With a crew it's different, but I'm referring to alone.) When my target is at the very edge of my compass I tag it with Thunderbolt. The instant it's turned I hammer on it's sails till they are fully stripped. The skellies reinforced masts make this harder. Yet I do manage. With the sails fully stripped I go back to the wheel, turn my ship to a perfect T with my target, and broadside it to Davy Jones. Even with skellies I have to move in close to broadside range. It's not the distance Zep, it's the ship. I've had other DW's tell me the same thing, skellies are just prone to turning even if you do fully strip the sails before they turn. I find almost every time this happens, it's a Death Omen ship. Sometimes, only sometimes, other skellies do it. So I try to avoid Death Omens.

It occurs to me that you and I have never sailed together. I'm putting this out now, come watch me in action and you'll see what I mean. My ships are always open to friends, guild, and crew. Just come see Kat O'hara. I don't say this as a matter of bragging but a statement of fact. I am absolutly one of the best sailors I've seen. Once I learned my technique, I made it a high art. With the exceptions of spawning, I have been known to sink a full hold worth of ships with not one scratch on me. In case you wonder where I sail I always ply the waters between PDF, and Kingshead. Sailing alone I hunt 35+ exclusively. Sailing with crew 30+. My prime targets are Behemoths, Colossus, and Dreadnaughts. If I can see them Juggernauts. Nothing else is worth my time. Why bother with a Warlord? I can sink them too easy. I want a challenge. I'm waiting patiently for D to put out level 50 monster big ships. Great big huge suckers like the guy in the BB. I'll tear that to shreds too.

Please note, yes, I really am that good. There are guildmates I sail with regularly who will confirm this if you think I'm just exaggerating. I am a monster sinker. It's my specialty. Why else would I be a 30 with just 2 1/2 levels to mastering both cannon and sail but my other weapons aren't but inching 15? (Secpt grenades, them things are fun!) I dunno how this turned into a can I do it, but I hope by reading my technique, those of you who have never seen it done try it. I hope you too get out there monster ship hunting. Till then I'll be out in the Hinterseas, sinking the monsters...

Um. It doesn't take a genius to hit a ship with a lucky shot and repeatedly shoot the sails until they all fall off. I've sunk plenty of omens and the likethat way.

Not to brag, but i am to. ii am a monster with a war sloop. one of me favorite strategics is to pull along side the back, broad side, then i would turn so me other side faces them. they almost always keep going forward, so me and my gunners keep pounding it. this works the best with galleons, as they have a hard time turning. i did this will that navy flagship that sails around out cast and tormenta. i sunk it with out a scratch to me ship. what i do with me war galleon is circle my victim at a long range, and hit them with broadsides. with the war frigate, i just stop in front of them and shoot. if I'm to close for that, i will circle them, try to get a good angle for me gunners and send them to Davy's locker.my tip: always make use of your enemy's blind spots, and they cant touch you.
